A new beginning : it's brilliant, 28 Sept. 2013
This record is not going to give itself away easily. Unlike earlier ones with standout tracks, The Brightest Light delivers a consistent yet versatile collection of excellent new songs. Here you don't feel that Mr. Hussey was trying to live up to any sort of expectations or that he recycled some earlier tunes. The album sounds fresh, very well produced, sounds outstandingly full with Wayne, Simon, Craig and Mike excelling at their instruments, despite the sometimes stripped down arrangements. Another 'plus' compared to Aura or God is a Bullet is that the record is very well edited and has got a well thought through structure with the more catchy songs such as Oyster..., Swan Song or Litany placed at the end and there are no tracks that don't fit the album. It took me a few listens to get very excited about this masterpiece, this is perhaps due the opening two uptempo rock songs' raw sound, however now the whole came together into something very special. If there is one song to highlight this would be Litany for the Faithful, Wayne wrote for the fans. This is a honest song with probably the catchiest chorus ever from the Mission. Don't compare with any earlier Mission album, this one is on par with any, probably the closest to Gods Own Medicine's versatility and take no prisoners honesty in an up to date packaging. A new beginning perhaps, thank you and well done .
