4.0 out of 5 stars Seems to do the job, 17 Mar. 2016
We have been using these blocks for a few years now and our machine works well as it seems to be the best at diminishing the build-up of lime scale. Put a tablet in every wash – we find, especially when they on offer are a great buy to protect your washing machine. We find that the powder version does not seem to do as good a job as these tablets. These Calgon tablets are bit on the expensive side but worth it, for the extended life of your machine. In addition, it seems to be a lot stronger than non-branded versions. Which are touted by local supermarket, as these ones but did not seem to be as effective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Case for a Point and Shoot Camera - for appropriate sized for a Point and Shoot Camera, 16 Mar. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Hard-shell Case Logic QPB301K Case for Point and Shoot Camera is really good generic case for appropriate sized for a Point and Shoot Camera.

The EVA moulded camera case (EVA is an elastomeric polymer that produces materials which are "rubber-like" in softness and flexibility. What is good about this material is that it has good toughness, stress-crack resistance, waterproof properties, and resistance to UV radiation.) lends itself to give protection to a camera. Lightweight, with soft lined interior keeps the LCD screen from scratches. The Internal slip pocket holds memory cards, an extra battery or small accessories. There is a wide, strong, snug belt loop on the reverse of the case so it can be attached to your belt or backpack or a camera bag. There is a removable cord and low-profile belt loop allow for stress-free conveyance. Lastly, there are dual zip pulls for easy access and a secure closure.

Fits devices: 9.9 X 2.3 X 6.1 cm. Weight: 0.07 Kg. Comes in a solid black colour.

All in all a good camera case from Logic.

4.0 out of 5 stars “A War” is part frontline military film, part courtroom drama, 16 Mar. 2016
This review is from: A War [DVD] (DVD)

A War (A Danish Film) is a 2015 war drama film written and directed by Tobias Lindholm, and starring Pilou Asbæk and Søren Malling. It tells the narrative of a Danish military company in Afghanistan (Helmand province) that are trying to eradicate Taliban threat, while making efforts to safeguard the residents of the area. When comrade is shot during a routine mission, Company commander Claus M. Pedersen does whatever he can do to save the soldier’s life. However, he does so by making an instantaneous decision that results in civilian deaths. In addition it is here when “A War” shifts from on-ground combat drama to a reflection on morality and rectitude. Interwoven into the fabric of the film are Claus’s wife’s experiences, Maria, back home in Denmark, struggling to look after their young children.

A precursor background of the film (which also sets the scene) shows a climate of fear and frustration among the Danish combatants, who are stressed and cannot understand just why they are in Afghanistan at all; moreover, why the solders have to go on patrol through a booby-trapped desert like environment. Their leaders tell them they are there to shield the civilians but the explanation doesn't ring true. In early scenes, there is a full on military engagement. With an enemy that is hard to see with, and where one of the soldiers on patrol steps on an improvised explosive device (IED).

Our main protagonist Claus is multifaceted and intelligent person, a devoted commander contending with the moral quagmires that stem from present-day Afghanistan. We see him dealing effectively with his troops; he is just as convincing as a father tucking his children into bed. The soldiers that we see with the principle actors were Danish troops who severed in Afghanistan and they added that extra touch of reality to the film. This is a film, then, which is less about battle than it is about the consequences of combat, where a making a snap decision that could save lives but ruin the career and life of a Commander on the frontline.

This good drama deserves a good four stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, 15 Mar. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Russell Hobbs Auto Steam Pro Ceramic (0.32 Litre, 2400 W) is a mid-range steam iron with, purported high steam rates and anti-drip and anti-calc features, along with a superior-quality ceramic soleplate. It has a good long lead that should help the ironing process, where some good irons are let down by short leads, which hinder effective ironing. The anti-calc and self-cleaning features should make this an easier steam iron to maintain. It does a good enough job of the actual ironing, although it struggles to iron deep creases out of my chinos. The ceramic soleplate glides easily over most fabrics, with a design that makes it easier to work around buttons and other impediments. It's also easy to fill, simple to clean and quick to heat up.

Weighing about 1.7kg when filled, this iron is relatively easy to hold, use and push around. The water tank will give you roughly 30 minutes of continuous steaming. The manufacturer recommends running the self-clean function monthly, and more often in hard-water areas. There’s no indicator to tell you when it needs self-clean, so the user will have to consider this.

Who is Charlie?: Xenophobia and the New Middle Class
Who is Charlie?: Xenophobia and the New Middle Class

4.0 out of 5 stars “liberty, equality, fraternity" ?, 14 Mar. 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
.

It is estimated 4 million French people took to the streets to express fellowship with the victims of shootings at Charlie Hebdo magazine and the consequent attack at a kosher supermarket in Paris.

Emmanuel Todd French historian; anthropologist, demographer and sociologist looks to discover “who is Charlie”; moreover, to look behind the self-proclaimed principles of this public protest. He furthers his investigation to trying to reveal its core political and cultural meaning. Todd unreservedly goes head long with his critique that Charlie Hebdo demonstration was not a great autonomous rally, he says, “but a moment of collective hysteria driven by xenophobic, authoritarian and nationalist impulses”. That those who took to the streets came predominantly from the privileged middle classes, taking benefit from the emotive shock that trailed the killings in order to endorse their position of communal authority and privilege. Where a group that is exclusive, is pretending to be both inclusive and espousing the ideals of “liberty, equality, fraternity".

His detractors consider his work has too much dependence on reasoning from self-evident propositions while not considering other, more pertinent political factors. For this reader I found the work to be interesting but at times confusing, as I hardly know anything about sociocultural anthropology. None the less, this unconventional thesis is a work that should not be ignored

5.0 out of 5 stars Jennifer Nielsen has delivered great second book in the series, 14 Mar. 2016
.

The Runaway King (Ascendance Trilogy) this is the second book in the series and is action filled narrative. In every chapter Sage is getting into trouble, and also getting out of trouble, or going on some dangerous adventure. This book is never sluggish. After a few chapters, you discover that you understand the characters well. Not because you've been told that their personality is this that or the other, but because you've been shown in the narrative. Ms Nielsen actually achieves this goal without a show and tell, which so few authors seem to do today.

Our main protagonist Sage is self-confident. Or where he's not, he easily fakes it. He is not a person to be big-headed, conceited, irresponsible, or patronizing. He has a strong underpinning of decorum. He is an exceptional judge of character - sensing who is fundamentally good or bad. He does not suffer fools easily. Sage is a candidate prince alongside Roden and Tobias. The dynamic between them is fascinating. When they need to be they are comrades in arms, united against the same "enemy." However, they are also rivals - in a game where the stakes are as high as they get. All three need and want to win. In their own way, each works to undermine the other two. The three act as a team sometimes, while two gain up against one at others. Each was capable of desperate cruelty.

First Impressions

This book has universal appeal. This does not contain any swear words or romance, it doesn't feel juvenile. It does have a surprisingly amount of violence and cruelty, although I believe it is appropriate given the plot, and is never graphic.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant time piece - should be fun to wear, 14 Mar. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this watch for one of our younger nieces, who are prone to breaking her previous watches, its colourful and pretty time piece. The quality looks OK. It has a nice large dial that should be easy to read. The watch strap is good and wears well and should not dig into your wrist. This is a nice and pleasant time piece should be fun to wear.
