After reading Shipwrecks of the Channel Islands: [Vol. 1] I searched for books on the same subject and came across this gem. It is the first book the authors worked on and wrote together and is a must read for anybody interested in Channel Island or Maritime history.

This book is simply gripping and the detail in the research is astounding. It is a fascinating subject which is brought to life by the survivors accounts and the enquiry findings. Another must by the same authors is Wreck of the "Stella": "Titanic" of the Channel Islands Two real additions to Maritime History!

This book has all the makings of a great film. Yet another great true story from the German Occupation of the Channel Islands during WWII. I really enjoyed the way this story is told.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for anybody interested in Titanic, 24 Jun. 2014

I love the way the author sets the scene to start the book which puts you rights on the ship. Amazing detail on all the Channel Islanders on board which until now was relatively unknown so it must have taken a great amount of research. One can't imagine the terrors of that situation and this book is a must read for anybody interested in Titanic. Some fantastic stories of both triumph and tragedy. Other good read is Wreck of the "Stella": "Titanic" of the Channel Islands

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, bring on the next one., 11 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A fascinating yet very funny look at the life that surrounds stardom. I love his sense of humour and how he is able to laugh at various situations and himself. He shows his true personality which is so different to the serious policeman he has played on our TV screens for the last 35 years. He must have so much more to tell us by now so come on and bring on the next one!

A great read and highly recommended.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
by Mary Ann Shaffer
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow what a great read!, 20 Jan. 2012
This is a really touching story. I hope the film with Kate Winslet in 2012 will do the book justice. I knew about the world war two history of Guernsey after reading Living with the Enemy-The Story of the German Occupation of the Channel Islands 1940-1945, with eye-witness accounts from both sides. Foreword by Jack Higgins and this book really brings it all to life. Wow what a great read!
