1.0 out of 5 stars disspointed, 30 Jun 2010
I order the pocket version as I don't like too much the big cards, but I was very disappointed with them due to the printing colors. They are dull, greyness, somber, completely different than the larger version - where they appear clear, whitish, bright.

If you like it darker, sadder this can be for you. But if you want a smaller size of the nice colored large version, this is not the right choice. Find another edition as it is just this peculiar edition of pocket size that have these sad colors, the other ones (different boxes) are also bright as the large version.

Everybody had good things to tell about these cards, I also like them, but just not this printing edition. I wished I new before hand about the altered colors, I would never bought it. Now it is for sale.

5.0 out of 5 stars another must have for real tarot fun, 30 Jun 2010
Together with the Butler`s dictionary, this is a must have for a real tarotist.

Card meanings are described for each card from different authors and perspectives, so you can get a clear and much broader view of the various interpretation ways , their origins. Also as a culture tool or in case you have a reader block and you need to shuffle a little bit the info.

I liked the way Jana Riley gives some general info on how tarot works (synchronicity theory, quantum physics), she writes in a very accessible and fluent way, I wished she writes more books on this topic.

Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars good book to get familiar with the court cards, 30 Jun 2010
This is a good book to get familiar with the court cards.

Explanations are simple, court cards are presented from different perspectives so you can choose which one goes best for you.

There are also lots of practical exercises to get the grip on theory.

I give 4 out of 5 as I don't consider it exceptional, just a rather fair book to get more info about the court cards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on minors, 3 Jun 2010
I wish more tarot books are written as this one. One of the few that really deserved my money and my attention. The author is smart, sensitive, with great sens of humor and even greater common sense. Her writing skills are excelent!

She focuses on discussing the usually neglected minor arcana, based on RWS deck, and makes references to Kabbalah.
Although not going to deep into the system tarot-kabbalah, it gives a good start for those who want to know more in this area.

There are no explanations in key-words style of the cards, but more as her experience with the cards (it can be annoying, if you don`t like this) but in the end it leaves you wanting more and opens your awareness to the minors you did not have before. I cannot wait she write one like this for the majors.

Tarot: Your Everyday Guide - Practical Problem Solving and Everyday Advice
Tarot: Your Everyday Guide - Practical Problem Solving and Everyday Advice

4.0 out of 5 stars Tarot cards as advice, 3 Jun 2010
I find it useful for those who want to know what a tarot card means when it is the position of advice.

It gives a new perspective on cards like 10 or 3 of Swords, describing their advices in some general situations.

Moreover, there are short mentions on the reversed meanings as advice.

I would recommend it for those learning tarot, in extending their knowledge, but basics are supposed to be already known.

3.0 out of 5 stars beginner`s book, 3 Jun 2010
As it can be, in limited range, a good book for a beginner, I would not advice somebody more advanced to buy it - you will not find much more info than you already know.

The approach is different than the classical one (no short history followed by card meanings, one by one), but it structured in small lessons for various subjects regarding readings. It has lots of clues to have a fresh start when wanting to learn tarot. On the other hand, it stresses too much on the side of "what you feel when you see the image", and less on the structure behind any tarot deck. As it is so general presented, it can be used in getting tips to learn with deck.

There is no such thing as a book totally useless, but this one had indeed too less to give me. Personally I would love to get to read this kind of review before I purchased it, I definitely wouldn`t do it again.
