Value for money, but limited use, 21 Mar 2006
Purchased for the sole purpose of wearing whilst I go running, this is top value and recommended.
But my requirements were simple - Hold 5 CDs worth of music, just leave to play, volume adjustment easy on the move and takes a rechargable battery.
So it meets my requirements. On the downside - if you need some of the following features then this is not for you:
Easy to download - If you are OK with uploading to a memory stick direct, then this works fine. If you want to use some software to manage your songs, then it is not. The instructions are rubbish, I didn't use their supplied s/w as it appeared as a memory stick when plugged in and other reviews slated it. It also has a habit of mixing up the order of the songs on download, which is confusing.
Easy to operate - It is fiddly. The only buttons that are OK whilst running are the play/pause/off button and the volume rocker. The track selection toggle is ok if I'm standing still, but a 'mare if running. The folder feature for storing songs was beyond me.
Quality - The headphones supplied are dreadful, but they fall out of my ears anyway when running so I use a good quality set of wraparound 'phones and the sound quality is excellent - I was really amazed. The only downside on quality was there is always a short gap of less than a second between songs. No idea why, but it is annoying when tracks fade into one another as it sounds like it has stopped.
So overall, I am delighted. It provides great quality sound, is small and robust, easy to use and low cost. I am sure I will invest in a large capacity player one of these days, but I will retain this one for use in the gym.
