This review is from: Shades of Grey (Paperback)
An ingenious plot which was challenging as well as entertaining. The hero was a true hero and the story amazing. It was exciting and poignant at times. Jasper Fforde always has a unique plot and is funny as well as pushing your thinking about existence to another level. He is a Philip K Dick who can write great narrative. This book should be compulsory for all GCSE English Lit. Thank you JF, cant wait for the next book.

All the Thursday Next books are weird an truly wonderful with each one in the series pushing the boundaries of your imagination further. The most imaginative series I have read and so well-written that when I am reading it I completely buy into the idea of a world within books. I do not understand why Jasper Fforde is not always on the best seller list, Also I am definitely going to get a dodo as a pet as they sound just great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Weird and wonderful, 9 Jan. 2014

I did not realise instantly that Tuesday Next was in fact a heroine and not a hero which was refreshing. Her adventures through books and interesting family were challenging and fascinating. I would have liked a better adventure actually within the book but the whole concept using an alternate history (parallel universe) with no planes but airships and an ongoing war in the Crimea and tongue in cheek names was fun and the innovative ideas were really enjoyable. It was a great read and well worth getting your head around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tom Holt at his best, 5 Nov. 2013

This book is definitely one of Tom Holt's best sci fi fantasies. He is funny and also makes you think - I have been giving my own dog some heavy looks since reading this book. I much prefer this kind of Tom Holt than when he is in his fantasy persona giving us updates on mythology. He is lucid, funny andBlonde Bombshell thought provoking. More in this genre please.

3.0 out of 5 stars I think Tom Holt is two people - a strip cartoon writer and a good sci-fic writer, 29 Oct. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is one of the former. The Tom Holt books that are a send-up of the mythological are quite light. However they are always amusing and worth an entertaining read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD READ BUT RATHER BLEAK AT TIMES, 29 Oct. 2013

I really like J K Rowling's writing and you cannot stop reading this book but it is mostly dark and joyless - not a good read if you are feeling low.

This review is from: Stella - Series 2 [DVD] (DVD)
The acting performances in Stella are great - everyone acts their socks off all the time. You might think these people are caricatures but I can confirm, knowing the warmth and community of the welsh valleys, they are not that far from reality. Funny, sad and wonderful. By the end of the series you feel a real sense of loss when it is over.

I really loved this book. I thought it was ingenious and entertaining and original. I think the best book by Tom Holt yet. I would recommend this to anyone who likes Douglas Adams. Possibly a little more challenging than Terry Pratchett but easily as entertaining. Tom Holt you are a very clever man.

3.0 out of 5 stars not a book to read if you are feeling down, 3 Mar. 2013

I really love Phil Rickman's books and this was the only one I had not read so I had to get it. However it was pretty unfailingly bleak with no light to illuminate the dark lots of mist and portentious happenings. phew glad when the suffering ended.
