This review is from: The Hippopotamus (Kindle Edition)
Frankly, this was a disappointment. Having read the reviews I was expecting something more amusing. It seemed to be like a book written by a upperclass public schoolboy with that level of humour. Felt no empathy for any of the characters, the language unnecessary and was frankly bored by the whole thing.

This is a light-hearted, fun book to read. Will appeal to those who like cats and quirky characters. Don't expect great depth but if you want a book to read without stretching the grey matter this a good one - better than Mills & Boon.

This was a fun book to read - light-hearted but non-sentimental. I really related to both Lil and her cat

2.0 out of 5 stars The Red Queen, 12 Dec 2011
Frankly I was very disappointed in this book. I felt there was little factual information behind the story and portrayed Margaret Beaufort in a very weak way, whereas the impression I have had from historical non-fiction is of a strong character. The 'romance' betweeen her and Jasper has no basis in fact.

Lady Editha
Lady Editha
by Philippa Wiat
Edition: Hardcover

2.0 out of 5 stars Lady Editha - good story, historical inaccuracies, 15 Nov 2010
This review is from: Lady Editha (Hardcover)
The book tells the supposed story of Editha (daughter of Edgar the Peaceful). Editha is Edgar's bastard daughter, sister to two kings - Edward the Martyr and Ethelred the Unready. However the story mainly concentrates on the male members of the family with Editha popping in every now and again. I enjoyed reading the story which romps through the years very quickly. However it is full of historical inaccuraces, e.g the imprisonment of Ethelred's mother at Wilton Abbey, the dating of the death of Editha's mother. Enjoy it as a read but dont believe it all for historical purposes!
