This is without doubt, the best electro pop album I've ever bought, absolute class throughout. Head bobbing and toe tapping tracks from start to finish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pop Music, Found Alive and Well!, 5 Jun. 2008
This review is from: This is Alphabeat (Audio CD)
While Alphabeat will never win any awards for their lyrics, they certainly make up for it with catchy hooks and sing-along choruses. Every song imprints itself on your brain and it's impossible not to leave the house without humming their infectious tunes and harmonies. Fantastic 6 is a brilliant start to the album and seems hard to follow but `Fascination' and '10,000 Nights' ensure the high standards continue. The tempo slows slightly with `What's Happening' giving you chance to get your breath back. Like the eighties? Good, because `Rubber Boots' sounds like a forgotten gem that could have been a Nik Kershaw B-Side! The only down side of this ablum is that the songs `Boyfriend' and `Nothing But My Baby' (2 of the best songs on the Danish album) have been re-produced and completely ruined by someone at EMI who felt he had to change something to warrant his pay packet. If you want to be a producer, whoever you are, go and work for some manufactured pop act no one cares about, stay away from Alphabeat, they deserve better!

4.0 out of 5 stars Foot Tapping Fun!, 22 May 2006
This review is from: Check In (Audio CD)
What a great pop album. There's so little acceptable pop music around these days it's nice to hear uplifting guitar pop with a twist of electronica. The back to back male and female vocals really hit the spot especially on 'Checkout' and 'Gogo Don't Go.' This album should not be played in your car however as the constant head bobbing may cause accidents! Get Involved all!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pop Perfection, 14 Jun. 2005
When World Peace is finally declared Saint Etienne will write the soundtrack. The word 'pop' was created for them, in fact maybe they created the whole genre themselves. Their music is so blissfully and painfully beautiful it's hard to imagine a world without them. Their will be no angels with harps in heaven but Sarah, Bob and Pete waving people in to the sound of Saint Etienne. The album has everything from sing-along pop songs, instrumentals and tear jerking ballads. At the end of every track Etienne wipe the slate clean and start all over. There's not an ounce of repetition when tracks incorporate electronica, spanish guitars and even David Essex! Highlight of the album has to be 'Last Orders for Gary Stead' which would put a smile on the face of even the hardest anti-pop cynic. Just when you think it's safe to go back in the water final track 'Goodnight' ensures a tear remains in the eye before you press repeat on your stereo and start the journey all over again. Now I can only pray, that after 16 years of pop perfection, this is only the beginning!

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing, 16 Mar. 2005
This review is from: Anniemal (Audio CD)
Pop has been given such a bad name over the past few years thanks to the introduction of talentless boy bands and programmes like 'Pop Idol.' Nice to see then 'Annie' breaking the mould and releasing a grown up collection of pop songs that would give Kylie jealous nightmares. From electronic tracks like 'Chewing Gum' and 'Anniemal' follows a dance track in 'Come Together' that would fill a dance floor the size of a football pitch. And to prove it's not just the feel good tracks she's perfected there's always 'Heartbeat' that sounds Saint Etienne-esq and maybe early Cardigans in it's raw beauty.
This album waves the flag of pop music with pride and sets an example to other 'so called' pop acts.

2.0 out of 5 stars Distinctly Average, 3 Dec. 2004
This review is from: Love Angel Music Baby (Audio CD)
Great debut single as i'm sure most people reading this page will agree. Sadly the album is a bit of a let down. With numerous different producers on the album (Like No Doubt) you get many different beats, styles and effects to keep you on your toes. However only one of the tracks really leaps out at you, "Danger Zone" is brilliant. The intro is brilliant, the verse is brilliant and the chorus is even better. This is the only song on the album strong enough to be a single or maybe "Rich Girl" if i push the boat out! Sorry Gwen, i'll keep buying "No Doubt" material but this album isn't up to your normal high standard.

5.0 out of 5 stars You WILL cry!, 2 Feb. 2004

This album is so painfully beautifully it hurts me to think of anyone who doesn't own it. The album draws you in with 2 quite upbeat and feel good openers. Just when you think its safe to dance across the landing they hit you with the depressing tracks with beautiful lyrics to go with. You've sat down reflecting on life thinking everything is going to be OK but the change of tempo changes everything. Suddenly you're shouting 'Why Me! Why Me!' and crying uncontrollably! Then you realise you're in your twenties and this is no way to behave. I'm just trying to make the point that every track on this album is a musical work of art. Be warned if you listen to this in your car you WILL forget where you're going! BEAUTIFUL! JUST BEAUTIFUL!

Its quite common now after a debut single as good as 'inappropriate' is released that the album that follows is full of forgetable fillers but not here. There's some wonderful tracks on this album from the upbeat 'Garden of dreams' to the hypnotic 'Blank White Sheet.' Its a beautiful album thats flows majestically from one track to the next. Only 10 tracks but you'll put it on repeat anyway, buy it and enjoy it!

Lucy has got the same producer as the fantastic 'Michelle Branch' in 'John Shanks.' This was the main reason i wanted to hear more of Lucy being a Michelle Branch fan. I was not disappointed to find a fantastic collection of uplifting rock music. Not one track lets this album down and you'll be humming from start to finish. Hopefully this is not the last we hear from the lovely Lucy.
