2.0 out of 5 stars A PR stunt for CR magazine, 13 July 2014
This review is from: Mademoiselle C [DVD] (DVD)
I love fashion and I am interested in the "behind the scenes". CR has been the Editor in Chief for Vogue Paris for 10 years before launching into her own venture: her own magazine (plan that has been sidetracked by her appointment to global fashion editor for Harper's Bazaar).

This documentary is plain boring: very little fashion. It is more a PR stunt for her magazine: the camera follows Carine across the globe and she talks with her collaborators about the concept of her new magazine, the cover, the logo and the "difficulties" she is facing. We see a lot of her children (one is an art dealer and the other one is a creative director ... very hard to get into fashion/art with mum and daddy's PR machine behind them ...). There are a couple of shoots and most of the documentary is about Carine is becoming grandma, Carine is polite and lovely with everyone, Carine is organising a charity event. You get the point!

The September Issue is what a fashion documentary should be: focus on fashion, how it really works behind the scenes, great photography. This Mademoiselle C is plain boring and just a PR assignment to boost CR image - rumour has it that she got dismissed from Paris Vogue for favouring her friends in photo shoots (Tom Ford). True? Who knows, the PR documentary does not talk about it.

Accelerate
Accelerate
by John P. Kotter
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £14.44

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not groundbreaking, 7 July 2014
This review is from: Accelerate (Hardcover)
Kotter's leading change is still one of the best books when it comes to change management. However, the subsequent books are more a reshuffle of the same old stuff. This book is interesting, but it does not contain groundbreaking ideas. Change pace is faster then ever and companies are struggling to keep up with it. We have heard for years now the requirement for agile organisations and innovation. Kotter talks about his solution: a dual system. Basically to create alongside a more structured organisation (typical of a more mature stage) a network organisation (typical of a start up). He goes through the characteristics of this system. A pleasant read, but it does not have an edge or a "wow" moment. If you read the FT and have more than a grasp of change management and organisational management Kotter's ideas will sound as nothing new.
I found disappointing that the 8 accelerators of the model that the proposes are basically the 8 steps to lead change, just with a little bit of re-shuffle and slightly different spin. A pleasant read but not a cornerstone of the business management literature.

Forks Over Knives (DVD) (UK Release)
Forks Over Knives (DVD) (UK Release)

5.0 out of 5 stars Must see, 4 July 2014
An excellent movie-documentary that shows how the modern diet is literally killing people. The high amount of consumption of meat, dairy and animal derived products lead to a massive increase in diseases as heart attacks, angina and more. In this movie we can see the results of scientific studies (not fads) that clearly show how decreasing and even better eliminating the consumption of animal derived food can eliminate and reverse those diseases. Unfortunately the pharma and food industries have far too many interests and prefer people to kill themselves with the incorrect diet so they can make as much money as possible with their rubbish/medicines.

I also suggest to read the China Study by Dr Campbell - he is the doctor that appears in this movie.

Answers about the Afterlife: A Private Investigator's 15-Year Research Unlocks the Mysteries of Life after Death
by Bob Olson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.16

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book by a reliable author, 30 Jun 2014
I watch Bob Olson program on YouTube and I have always liked his style: he is very knowledgeable about the subject and never patronising. When I saw he published a book I immediately bought it in Kindle version and I was not disappointed. Olson has a background as a private investigator and he has approached the topic of after life with rigour. The style of the book is very clear and explains concepts like the difference between spirit and soul in a very clear and accessible way. One of the best books that i have read on the topic and very comprehensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a massive difference!, 27 Jun 2014
I own the original Silkepil that came out 20 years ago and that I no longer use, even if it is still working as it takes ages and hurts. Last year I tried the IPL Venus by Braun and it was a massive failure (I returned it). Therefore I decided to take the plunge and purchase this new version of the Silkepil. The difference compared to the original version is massive! 40 tweezers make the job a breeze: quick and effective. It pulls out also very short hair and it does not hurt. - it is more a sort of a stinging sensation. I like the incorporated light that makes it very easy to see also thin and short hair. It has two speeds and a cooling glove to ease the uncomfortable sensation some may experience after having epilated an area. It is not great for sensitive areas such as the bikini line. It can cause ingrown hair (therefore it is better to use a scrub everyday to avoid this issue). I am really enjoying this product, so much better than the razor blade and much cheaper than waxing!

Launch: An Internet Millionaire's Secret Formula to Sell Almost Anything Online, Build a Business You Love, and Live the Life
Launch: An Internet Millionaire's Secret Formula to Sell Almost Anything Online, Build a Business You Love, and Live the Life
by Jeff Walker
Edition: Paperback
Price: £10.37

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal book, 24 Jun 2014
Jeff Walker is THE go to person for anyone interested in being successful with online marketing. Don't bother wasting time and money with other people, most of them are trying to be copycat and do not reach the level of JW. In this book he does not hold back: he goes through the steps of his Product Launch Formula and provides some examples (not that many, but the book would be 600 pages and it is not feasible). For those who want to dip their feet in the water of marketing on line the Seed Launch is the perfect playground.
I have always admired JW honesty and integrity: he does not sell fluff, he does not claim majestic results - everything is backed up by clear evidence. He also makes it clear that without hard work and a great offer his formula is not going to work.

Definitely worth buying if you want to learn how to launch successful products on line. The only disappointment is that the links to his bonuses do not work.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money, 21 May 2014
The light boxes are very flimsy. The boom is not sturdy and it is very hard to make it stay steady. The main issue is the scarce light: I have owned another set of soft boxes before and the amount/quality of light was significantly better. Would not suggest to purchase this set, unless you need something very small and that does not produce a lot of light. Disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners, too high level for experts, 18 May 2014
This is an OK book if you are starting out as an entrepreneur and want to learn some basic tactics on how to become an expert in your niche. Nothing groundbreaking though.
The style of the author is very down to earth, it gives some useful tips if you have never tackled this topic before. If you are looking for more advanced strategies and tactics this is not the right book for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money, 17 May 2014
I am vegan and I needed a blender that is durable and powerful as I use it daily for smoothies and soups. The vitamix is far too expensive so I "settled" for the Kitchen Aid. I purchased it and it was faulty. Kitchen Aid immediately replaced it - great customer care - and I found out that the model that I originally bought was the old one (it had only one "jar"). The new model has two "jars": one made of glass and the smaller one made of plastic.

It does not blend fruit and vegetables perfectly: there is still a residue of skin and small seeds. I like it has several functions, the pulse included. Worth the money? No. It does the job but I could easily get the same result with a good quality Braun blender. I am also peeved because in the US you can find the same blender for around $100!

The design is great (hence two stars), available in a lot of colours, it is easy to clean and is very solid. It comes with 3 years warranty (no need for any warranty extension). I would very likely not buy it again: after one month of daily the "glass" started to leak from the base. I noticed that it is an issue with the gasket that requires a lot of TLC. I wash the whole thing after every use and I have to dry the gasket immediately afterwards otherwise I experience the leakage. Unacceptable.

Veg1 Blackcurrant Multivitamins and Minerals Tablets - Pack of 180 Tablets
Veg1 Blackcurrant Multivitamins and Minerals Tablets - Pack of 180 Tablets
Price: £14.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality, 8 May 2014
The vegan society is synonymous of quality. I got these supplements as they contain all the goodies a vegan diet may lack of, in particular vitamin B12. It is a blend of vitamin D, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, folic acid, selenium, iodine and vitamin B2. Therefore all is in there.

The tablets have to be crushed to optimise the absorption. One a day is the recommended dose. I got the blackcurrant flavour and, luckily, it is not too sweet. Next time I will try the orange ones. Overall an excellent product at a very reasonable price, with all the goodies and no nasties.

When I purchased it getting the tablets from the vegan Society website was cheaper than Amazon - price goes up and down so you have to check every time. My order got lost in the post and they have promptly replaced it free of charge. Excellent customer service too!
