This CD is the business - Five Stars, 20 April 2013
"The Scene Club" CD features early Soul and R&B tracks that would have been played by Guy Stevens down at the Ham Yard. Firstly the CD arrives as a hard back book format, so you do not get a normal CD, and the feel and look of the CD is brilliant. So first impressions is this CD looks the business, the front picture sold it to me regardless of the tracks. My only niggle with these Formats is i have only taken the CD out once and already one of the middle clips that holds the CD in place has snapped. So to the music, I am assuming that if you are reading this then you have some idea of what this CD is all about (and also the companion CD). Yes there are a couple of tracks that always gets comped, but the CD covers a wide range of familiar and unfamiliar songs, if you know your stuff then there wont be any surprises in terms of track selection, or you may have them on other compilations (or the original vinyl). But the flow of the tracks is nicely done, starting with Betty Everett. Baby Washington, Roscoe Shelton and "Question". Familiar tracks would be Don Gardener, Ike And Tina Turner, Wilbert Harrison, Dixie Cups and Lazy Lester, plus others but ...just listen to Alvin Robinson sing "Let The Good Times Roll", Jimmy Reed, Johnny Nash Harold Burrage, and the great Derrick & Patsy "Housewives Choice". In all this CD is great addition to any collection, definitely recommend getting this CD. Nice one Charly !!

Just in time for the snow, 28 Jan 2013
These snow grabbers arrived just before the snow came , so i had a good opportunity to try them. You need to make sure you pull them onto your foot enough so they do not fall off, as one of mine flip flopped off while walking in the snow. Once on though they allowed me to walk without worrying about falling over , they are really good value and do the job. I got the size bigger than my shoe size to make sure they would fit over my shoe. Great product and glad i bought them.

Dissapointed, 16 Jan 2013
Received the unit in very quick time , however the connector on the cable was slightly bent (dont think it is supposed to be like this) and when the connector fits to the unit , it is not a snug fit and is very loose, any slight move of the cradle the lead pulls out. The male connector is also loose on the dock station, not sure if this is a feature , but i find it a pain to try and keep wiggling the phone to mate with the connector. The phone is a very snug fit in the cradle, which makes it more of a pain trying to connect the phone. I wanted something i could leave on my desk charging during the day from the laptop, which this unit does, but I would probably just go for a new cable next time and plug into the mains.

Tricky but worth it, 13 July 2012
Media Devil protective sheets - after researching and reviewing a number of options, I ordered the Media devil Magic screens. As reviewers and the videos suggested, I positioned myself in the bathroom hovering over the toilet to fit the cover in a almost misty condition (to prevent as much dust as possible in the air). I followed the instructions that comes with the product, and initial fitting went very well, removed air bubbles as I went along and gradually pulling the yellow tab down, I even had a pen with sticky tape on it to remove any dust particles that may have hopped onto the screen. Fitted it perfectly , until I went to pull the second Blue tab down and pulled the whole cover off Doh! Which meant hastily trying to fit it back on as a complete sheet, this time dust particles jumped from my T shirt onto the cover as I pulled the tab thinking Yes - Success!!! Finally got the cover on and although I have a few dust bubbles around the edges the main screen is bubble free. This was my error and not the products, I guess I didnt pull the blue tab downwards enough, luckily you get 2 x covers in the pack. Plus a cloth to clean the screen and a card to eradicate those bubbles. However I am happy with the amount of bubbles left (much less than the cover i had previously) This product is on the higher cost side, but well worth it, Highly reccommend this (and I got 2 sweets in the pack)

Fast Delivery and good product, 28 Jun 2012
If your after 3 button, no logo, Polo shirts at a reasonable price, then these are perfect - luckily the size i ordered left room for me to grow !!!. Items were despatched within 24 hours of order placement. Material is thinner than I was expecting , but Polos are still very good. I havent worn them or washed them yet, hoping this wont change my opinion. Will definately be ordering more but would prefer more range of colours.

R & B Humdingers 11 - Top Trumps, 21 May 2012
Humdingers Volume 11 - this is the first edition i have purchased and I am already searching for the others (Found the whole series on Ebay !!) The series focuses on old 50s and 60s R & B and digs deep into the vaults from many US labels to bring an assortment of R&B (some tinged with R&R). If you like the Ace "New Breed " series or the "Kings New Breed" then you will love this series. All of the tracks on this volume are excellent (go to MP3 Download section on Amazon for full track listing)and the value of the original vinyl I expect would reach into the 100's. Stand out tracks would be - Sugar Boy Crawford, Red Prysock, HB Barnum , The Royal Jokers and of course Lavern Baker. The downside of these CDs is they are from the USA so Amazon only have volumes 11 and 12, and there is no detail of the artists, just an inner sleeve with a few pictures of the records, but I would rather choose the sounds than the words. For the music - it is on a par with Aces output, but from the detail, you cant beat an Ace CD. This is a fantastic CD, now to start collecting the rest....

Series 7 - and the best yet!, 3 Feb 2012
Mod Jazz Forever - The new release from the Kent (Ace)label - Just dropped through my door yesterday and although i have only played the CD once, already this has become one of my favourite of the series. I didnt think The Return Of Mod Jazz could be topped, but here it is. I was only familiar with one song on this CD which was Jack McDuff and Screamin - you know what you are going to get with Brother Jack - screamin organ and fantastic this track is. I know of some of the other titles but not by these artists, for instance Whos Afraid of Virginia Woolf (Graham Bond/James Brown)but not by the Nightbeats, the same with The in Crowd, Work Song, Fever, Sunshine Superman And The Return of the Prodigal Son, all artists new to me covering these songs. So - First impressions - absolutely the best CD I have received so far this year - if you like the previous six editions in this series then you will love this - even if you dont have the previous editions you should still buy this as it covers Organ, vocal vibes the whole spectrum of JAzz grooves (as with the previous issues). Outstanding tracks for me are:- Clint Stacy doing the Work Song, this is top of my list - outstanding version, Johnny Hammond Smith doing the In Crowd, again an excellent version with Organ, Quirky version of Sunshine Superman from Bocking, Robinson, Morais. Some nice Vibes from Johhny Lytle, George Stone and My Beat, Jesse Davis and Night Bloomin Jasmine - in fact the whole album is just pleasure to my ears. If you like your jazz mixed in with latin, soul and R&B then this CD does just that. The only issue i did have with Amazon was the case was cracked when it arrived, dont worry it is already in a new case - well this CD deserves a proper clean un damaged case !!! Just buy it - you will love it

Not Very Psychadelic At All, 2 Jan 2012
This CD had been in my Amazon Wants list for a while, as it had caught my eye with the "Book a Trip " Front picture and the Psych Pop Sounds of Capitol Records. Even the previous review didnt dissuade me from buying it (received in November 2011) I am not sure what I was expecting when it finally came through the post. In my mind I was hoping for some sixties Garage / fuzz / Psych tracks, but instead got more sixties "Ivy League" tunes rather than Psych. Like some of the old Bam Caruso albums that were released , or the Psychadelic Trip series on Decal. And even the names sounded promising, This Side Up , The Shanes, Teddy Neeley Five, The Tuneful Trolley etc, Unfortunately this CD did not deliver to my expectations. Like another reviewer - dont purchase if you want more Psych than pop. It starts off promising, with the title track, "Book A Trip" by "This Side Up" a bouncy kind of tune, and this is how the remainder tracks go... Having said that , there are some great tunes on this CD - if you like Hermins Hermits / Searchers / Ivy League / Lovin Spoonful or the Monkees - then these sound like all of those mixed up. My favourite track is the Sidewalk Skipper Band - Strawberry Tuesday (a bit garagey), the rest are sixties pop rather than Psych. (This Cd is similar to the DreamTime series released in the 90s)- Only Buy if you like this genre

80 Mod / Freakbeat & Swinging London Nuggets - Not Arf Pop Pickers, 2 Jan 2012
This "Looking Back" compilation for me is one of the better compilations of sixties sounds from 2011 - Like the old Past & Present comps, there is a mixture of tracks you will know & love, and then there are those tracks that are new to even the most diehard fans of this music scene. There are new tracks on this comp that i have never heard before!! If you are like me and your vinyl buying days are long gone, this CD is an absolute must. Unfortunately like the previous review I do have a number of the tracks on other Cds , The Ember Record Label series / Ministry Of Sound / The Untamed / Mulberry Bush / The Syndicats (It Was Paul "Smiler" - Rare Mod compiler who introduced me to this track during the eighties) / Strike Records etc... so for me a number of tracks i already own (even a copy of the previously uncomped "Lloyd Alexander Real Estate" on a vinyl '45, but it is the anticipation of those tracks i dont yet have, or havent heard before, or know about but have not got yet, which is more about where this comp fits into anyones collection. There are many new tracks to me on this comp that I love, and the quality is outstanding. The 35 page booklet with each single details and pictures is also well published. My Favourite tracks :- (excluding the tracks i already have which are also excellent) "The InCrowd - Stop Wait a minute" recently found this on YouTube and sounds like Shake, The Knave - Ace OF Clubs (if you like The Quik then this is a must buy), The Alan Bown Set - Jeu De Massacre (Unlike the Alan Bown you normally get on Comps - this is frantic stuff), Hardin & York - Little Miss Blue (Spencer Davis reincarnate!!), The Birds - No Good Without You (An Australian band of the same name covering the UK Birds songs!), The Trekkas. A Wild Uncertainty, Watson T Browne ... the list is endless. Worth noting is CD3 has a few more Girly / Poppier tracks on it than the other Cds, the likes of Twinkle / Val McKenna/ Jacki Bond / The McKinleys / and a Ray Singer pop track with Organ. On the Whole 20 decent tracks and 6 questionable tracks for me (these fit into the more "Swinging London Nuggets" section) This is a brilliant compilation - whether you like 60's R & B, Soul , General , Freakbeat , or whatever Genre you want to put to each track - with this compilation you have 80 Tracks, over three CDS and some I guess are worth much more than the CDs cost. RPM have pulled off a very comprehensive collection of some great sixties tracks not yet comped (if you like the Past & Present / Psychic Circle / Rare Mod compilations then you will not be dissapointed with this CD. Interestingly could they follow this up with a volume 2?

Rare Mod From the EPs from Acid Jazz, 23 Dec 2011
If you like the Rare Mod series that Paul "Smiler " has been part of , then you will want to buy this CD as well. I saw the vinyl EP versions released but wanted to wait for the CD version, and here it is, the tracklisting is:- 1. The Richard Kent Style - Im out 2. Steve Marriotts Moments - You Really Got Me 3. The Muleskinners - Need Your Lovin 4. The Clique - Ooh poo Pah doo 5. Donnie Elbert - This Old Heart Of Mine 6. The Richard Kent Style - You Cant Keep A Man Without Love 7. The Fleur De Lys - Yeah I Do Love you 8. James Patterson - Silent 9. Sharon Tandy - Daughter Of The Sun 10. The Clique - Pretty Thing 11. The Fleur De Lys - Gotta Get Enough Time (Feat Sharon Tandy) 12. The Richard Kent Style - Marching Off To War 13. Maxine - A Love I Believe In 14. Sharon Tandy - Walk From Here To Mexico 15. The Clique - See That MY Grave Is Kept Clean 16. The Muleskinners - Why Dont You Write Back To Me 17. Sharon Tandy - Roundabout 18. The Fantastics - We Got Good Lovin 19. Sharon Tandy - Somebody Speaks Your Name 20. The Muleskinners - Backdoor Man 21. The Clique - She Aint No Good 22. The Fleur De Lys - Circles 23. The Muleskinners - Untie Me 24. Steve Marriots Moments - Youll Never Get Away From Me The best part of this CD for me was the Muleskinners tracks, storming R&B (except Unti Me) although familiar with Back door Man, this is a different version to the one i have on another compilation. And the Richard Kent style tracks are fantastic. Unfortunately unlike the Small Faces, Steve Marriots early efforts into music did not have the same prescence, however nice R&B on Youll Never Get Away From Me. The Sharon Tandy and Fleur De Lys tracks - to me dominate the CD, as Sharon sings on the majority of the Fleur De Lys tracks. On my copy of the Cd the Fantastics (track 18) finishes, but all of a sudden you get a blast of some frantic R & B playing (approx 15 seconds),before the Backdoor Man starts - so not sure who this is? Couldnt see anything in the booklet. The one negative thing with the whole CD was the quality of the Clique tracks, however rare they are , the quality of these tracks are below the standard of rest of the tracks, but they are rare so you have to be grateful you other Clique tracks other than the "We Diddnt Kiss, Didnt Love But Now We Do". The "She Aint No Good" version here is also different to the one previously comped. On The whole i have given 5 stars but this is more for the collector than the casual buyer - Here you have some quality Mod bands that delve into the tracks you may not have on previous released CDS or have only seen on You tube!!
