Not that I believe (or not) in such things but you know what I mean. Never before have I been so sure. Skip anything you like in the following but I had a need to blow this man's trumpet as he can't do this himself being long gone. I don't think he would have anyway. Through his singing a beautiful persona emerges.
DAVE THE MAN
Dave King was a singer during my very young years but all I recalled when I saw his name on my Christmas Legends
album was that. His name. There is a succinct potted history given on the insert to this album including references to 9 of the tracks. When I read the insert, through the mist of time percolated the memories that he was a comedian and he acted too. To be honest I wish I hadn't been reminded that he played Jack Duckworth's brother in Coronation Street; a bit too down to earth. But I will now drive that thought from my mind, for to me he epitomizes perfection when he sings.
MY NEED FOR MORE
Dave sings just one song on the 'Christmas Legends' album (out of 100) but it was this song that filtered itself up and out above the rest. With 'Christmas And You' he encompasses the full meaning of love in an almost humble rendition of few lyrics which starts "I'll remember Christmas and you all through the rest of the year". I had to have more. My need was frustrated by the discovery that very little is available.
THIS IS THE ONLY DAVE KING ALBUM AND IT IS RARE
I watched this album for months and months. During that time the price ranged from about seventy pounds to well over a thousand! Then, three months ago I got it for more than I would usually pay but a bargain compared to those, at close to twenty five pounds. Currently it's listed on Amazon UK for about a hundred and twenty pounds and Amazon US for just over a hundred and twenty four dollars. I am so scared of damaging it so I still keep it in my wish list in case another one comes along at a less extortionate price! I can't (yet!) justify spending so much.
THE CONTENTS OF THIS ALBUM
The photo on the product page is the same as that on the CD insert. However, although the 12 tracks shown (if you can read the blurred small print!) are on this CD, there are 23 tracks in total. The photo of the original vinyl LP with its 6-a-side tracks has been used for this. Here is the full track listing [with track lengths]. The songs were recorded from 1956 to 1958 and the total play time is 54:11. Note the break after track 6 where Dave then two other performers sing briefly under the heading 'All-star hit parade A Lord Taverners recording'. They are 3 of 6 performers on an old 78 recording which actually says on it 'Lord's...'. I'm not sure why they are included here.

Oh my. As I listen I feel myself sigh. I unwind and relax. His dreamy crooning and effortless renditions flow over me. Even the more up tempo numbers massage my senses because of that rich wide-ranging voice. Take 'A little bit independent'. Wow, swoon swoon! It rises and falls up and down the nectar notes, the smooth transition making me tingle. I could elaborate my feelings for many of the songs here but you may be eating your lunch so I'll just say that my other loves are 'Memories are made of this', 'I've changed my mind a thousand times', 'Christmas and you' (of course), 'The birds and the bees', ... Goodness, and so many more because it's his voice. It's his voice! I love it!
