Fight Night 2004!- Real deal.........No Really!!!, 6 May 2004
I'm an avid fan of boxing and used to follow the Knockout Kings titles right from through from PS1 to PS2.
I waited with baited breath for this game but have found it terribly dissapointing.
Below are the games Good/Bad points
Roy Jones Jnr
Decent 'Create a Boxer'
Its another Boxing title
Decent career mode
Lack of Recognised Boxers (No Tua, Klitschko, etc)
Generic Boxers all look the same (only minor chnges, like skin tone or hair colour)
Terrible Hip/Hop' style commentary (no Ian Darker or Mcguiagan, which takes away from the 'real' feel of the game)
Terrible 'Hip/Hop' style presentation, in matches (no Jimmy Lennon, or recognisable referee's so again realism suffers)
Lack of Training options: (No Speedbag, Skipping, Situps etc)
Awfull knockdowns: So unrealistic its not true.
Somewhat awkward control system
This game suffers from an identity crisis, as all the hip/hop stuff detracts from the game. The game seems to want to be n arcade style or beat'em up to appeal to the massess, but plays like a simulation, so it ends up as neither one nor the other.
If this game ditched the hip/ hop, got decent commentary, refined the control system got a few more recognisable names in and went back to being what it should be (a boxing sim) this would be an untouchable 5/5, at the moment its a 3
I just hope 2005 is better!
