2.0 out of 5 stars The Sound Of Guns N'Roses as we know it splitting up!!!!, 21 Mar. 2005
This review is from: Sympathy For The Devil (Audio CD)
This is in effect the anthem/sound of Guns N'Roses orginal (or as close to as it ever would be) band splitting up. Its also GNR's last release. Unless you count 1999's 'Oh My God' which Axl and various musicians threw together for the End Of Days soundtrack under the GN'R moniker.
This is a cover of the old Rolling Stones number, and as many interviews have since revealed was literally phoned in. Its not bad but then again it doesn't compare with the enthusiasm, venom or energy that accompanied AFD and to a slightly lesser extent UYI 1 & 2!
This is worth having as it doesn't feature on any offical GN'R Album (inc the risible Spaghetti Incident), and if your a GN'R fan you'll want it.
Doesnt Mean You'll listen to it though!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Its not a Cyn To love this!!!!, 28 Jan. 2005
This is a music video biography of Lauper career 84-94, and also includes footage of her at Coni Island ( jovial pieces, but not really enough to warrant there inclusion, sadly). This was released in 94 to coincide with her re-release of the re-worked girls just wanna have fun. As a lauper fan, this has everything you could wish for from a music video standpoint, and includes all the noteworthy music videos from the 10 year period (but strangely no Goonies 'r' good enough?), these include:
Girls Just wanna have fun
money changes everything (live)
time after time
she bop
change of heart
true colours
I drove all night
Hey Now (girls just wanna have fun)
to name but a few!
This is a must have for any Lauper fan, however it is a real shame that, as a bio of her career to date (when released in 94), there is only 1 live performance included (the aforementioned 'money changes everything') and no interview/rehearsal footage etc. Still on its merits as a purely 'The videos' feature, there isn't a better catalogue of Laupers work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to StarFleet, 19 Jan. 2005
This is a terrific game, do not let its age (7 yrs) and laughable (nowadays) minimal spec fool you. This game has great production values (which stand up even now), and features legendary Star Trek figures William Shatner (Kirk), George Takei (Sulu) and Walter Koenig (Checkov) reprising there roles. These are not generated images, these are the actual actors in full uniform performing, which adds an eessential 'must have' touch to the game. The game is lavish and is as close to being in the world of 'Classic' Star Trek as you can get without building a full sized bridge, commissioning uniforms and paying William Shatner and co to man it!
The game is set in the 'Movie' universe, post Star Trek 5 and pre 6 (undiscovered Country), which accounts for Kirk's involvement ( this game adheres to Star Trek lore well). The game sees you as a cadette, and you have to undertake missions, to achieve a ranking at the end. Along the way you have to balance objectives, and the crew's interaction with each other, which actually has an affect on your ranking and how the game pans out. Balance everything out and you get a different ending (there are at least 3 different endings on offer here, i've seen 2). I won't spoil it, but it is indeed worth it!
I would reccomend this to any fan of the Kirk and co ST universe, it is simply a must have and has a good plot which fits in with ST lore well. It is also a must have for any fans purely for the involvement of the said actors, especially (even though this is set pre generations) as it features the last current appearance by William Shatner as Kirk!
Quite Simply BUY IT!

1.0 out of 5 stars Catwoman returns....................Well Not Quite!!!, 17 Jan. 2005
This review is from: Catwoman [DVD] [2004] (DVD)
The mention of Catwoman for most of us post 24, will conjure memories of Michelle Pfeiffer, donning Black leather, in Tim Burton's Gothic masterpiece Batman Returns. So in 2004, has Burton and Pfeiffer returned 12 years later to bring more of Selina Kyle's psychologically unhinged antics to the screen....................No!!! This incarnation of Catwoman bares no resemblance to the Catwoman that usually inhabits the Batman universe (in any Batman incarnation). Gone is Pfeiffer, in is Halle Berry, Gone is Gotham City, gone is alter-ego Selina Kyle in is Patience Phillips! In short this is a new beginning, with new characters, new location etc!!
This film did badly at the box office and got a slating by the critics and its easy to see why!! This is throwaway stuff, featuring poor performances, and some staggeringly bad SFX!! In fact if it wasn't for stars Berry (why?), Sharon Stone (clearly here to pad her bank balance), and its budget (a staggering waste of 85 Mill) this would be Straight to video stuff!!! Without being direspectfull the studio really blew it here. Catwoman has the potential to be a Gothic masterpiece (ala Burton). This was clearly designed to be a Halle Berry action star vehicle (to spawn sequeals), but fails on every level, think Pam Anderson in Barb Wire!!!
For what its worth the plot features Berry's Patience Phillips stumbling on a conspiracy in the cosmetics industry (no its not that Nivea doesn't work), is bumped off and is ressurrected as Catwoman, to avenge herself............Oscar winning stuff eh!, Que the nominal love interest, plenty of bad SFX a rediculous outfit and probably Pfeiffer and Burton sat at home chuckling, glad there not linked in any way!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grea Song, my anthem of 98/99!!!, 17 Jan. 2005
This song was my anthem of 98/99, when at that time in my life, it really was 'Mysterious times'. I was 17, discovering life in every way. Hard to believe then that this song is 7 years in my life, and in the past, and yet i still listen to it!!! Tina Cousins voice compliments Sash's dance music in an inspired collaboration and despite being 7 years old, this song could still hang with 2005 dance and not appear archaic or out of place!!! This is a timeless piece of 'dance' (and i don't like dance as a rule), that could have been just another throwaway tune, that haunted the late nineties (Aqua anyone?), but isn't!!! Am understated classic, that wouldn't be underserving of another run in the charts!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Framed....................Indeed!!!, 17 Jan. 2005
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This post bond effort from Timothy Dalton, is an enjoyable story of corruption, manipulation and greed.Dalton looks like he's really relishing the role here and gives a possible career best performance in a somewhat unusal role for him (that of a manipulative super grass). The story sees a presumed dead Dalton, being caught by chance by a rookie detective whilst he's on holiday , who is then deported back to the UK and imprisoned as the police try to squeeze him for information. The rookie is assigned to babysit Dalton (at his request), and from then on its a masterclass as Dalton slowly manipulates and then corrupts the youngster into his way of thinking, all the while staying one step ahead. Dalton is very convincing and its a fascinating watch that keeps you enthralled till the credits roll. This is highly reccomended, and just goes to show what a misuse of talent Daltons career over the last 10 years has been.

3.0 out of 5 stars Riddick returns!!!!!!!, 23 Dec. 2004
Well heres the problem!!! I loved Pitch Black and the anti-hero Riddick it introduced. In PB Riddick was a baddass, take no prisoners, dont give a **** out and out bad guy, who assisted purely for his own benefit and survival.
Fast forward to TCOR and Riddick returns, but he isn't quite the same Riddick. Riddick whilst still possessing some 'classic' one-liners has to be frank mellowed and is cast as the 'hero' of the piece. Sure he disposes of some bad guys in vicious and brutal fashion, but its now all for a good cause!!
The Riddick universe has also changed somewhat. PB was very much a more recent take on the future in terms of technology, weaponry and design etc. in TCOR the universe has expanded into a more futuristic vision, complete with multiple spaceships, alien creatures and laser guns. This makes it feel alien compared to PB and it loses alot of its edge and grit because of it (Riddick is now also some kind of 'special' being, and light no longer hurts his eyes?)
Only in ceratin scenes does this film feel like it bares any resemblance to PB, and that is namely the Crematoria cavern run!!
All in all its good to have Riddick back on our screen's, but i'd have preffered a more realistic approach (ala PB), and as a result I think PB is the Superior film of the 2 (and was about 1/5 of the budget)

4.0 out of 5 stars The Kooky 80's legend still has it!!!, 23 Dec. 2004
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Despite being a 24 yr old bloke, i really like Lauper, and this is a really great concert. I've always thought Laupers versatility and music to be very overlooked and underated, and am pleased that she still has a large fanbase. Lauper looks frankly amazing for someone past 50 (doesn't look any older from 1990 literally) and her voice (very underated, and all the more amazing considering she severely damaged her vocal chords pre-80's debut) is as good as ever, and her enthusasm plentifull. Highlight for me was definately the amazing 'I drive all night'. the only downside I have is that laupers perennial 80's favourite (which she re-worked for 1994, and vastly improved on the original in my opinion) 'Girls just wanna have fun' has been re-worked into a ghastly reggae number which frankly doesn't work no sounded right (a minor quibble i know)!!!
She Bop as also been re-worked, and there isn't much of her 80's catalogue played here (but all credit to her for not resting on her 'peak' classics at her shows). But all in all this is a great performance, from a great icon!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Electric shaver on the market!!!, 23 Dec. 2004
I have a really tough beard which grows quickly. When your 16 you love it because it makes you look older (and that is good for certain situations), when you get past 20 you hate it because you have to shave every day, and you look scruffy if you don't!!! This electric shaver is cracking for doing your face and will give a really close shave (better that wet i might add!) and is very comfortable to use, why then doesn't it get 5 stars you might ask? Well, like all electric shavers ive used, it just doesn't do the neck well and gives you a horrible blotchy rash!!! I therefore have to wet shave my neck and electric shave my face, so in reality im not saving any time at all or saving money on having products!
Its good but not perfect, Highly reccomended for people without lots of neck hair!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Maximum GN'R......I dont think so!!, 23 Dec. 2004
I bought this as a lover of all thinks GN'R, I have to say though that I actually hated this CD. Its very short (about 45 mins if that) and the woman speaker talks in a very monotone and pattronising manner, which nearly had me reach for the 'stop' button. Little is covered here, and i've read magazine articles that in 3-4 pages cover the history og GN'R better than this. All in all i found this CD very dissapointing, and without wishing to disrespect anyone or there views i can't see how anyone would be happy with this cd or the level of depth it goes into!!
