A neat bundle and ideal as a gift. I gave this package to my wife for Christmas. The camera is a real step up from a smartphone or tablet camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and does the job, 8 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A straightforward piece of pressed, drilled and tapped powder-coated metal that does its job well. The supplied fitting screws worked in my cheap and simple tower case, although I found it helped to use washers where the adapter fitted into the drive cage slots as the screw heads aren't very wide. If you have an up-market case with special rubber fittings you may need to look for something more elaborate or be prepared to do a bit of extra drilling and tapping yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strongly perfumed, but leaves the skin feeling smooth, 8 Feb. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Aussie brand name is already well-known in the UK for its range of hair care products. They are widely available and, if my OH's comments are anything to go by, well-liked.

So, body wash is a new departure. How good is it? Before I talk about that, what about the name? It's no surprise to find, in our globalised world, that the Aussie brand is owned by multinational Procter and Gamble and that this particular product is made in France. All the same, the featured ingredient - macadamia nut oil - does appear to originate from Australia. The other ingredients are the same kind of thing you'll find in most body washes and shower gels.

The first thing that strikes you is the scent. It's pretty powerful and just like the bubblegum I used to buy as a boy. Other Aussie products smell the same so if you like them, or you like fruity scents, you'll be fine with this. As for the macadamia nut oil, I can say that it does leave the skin feeling smooth. Although this product isn't specifically recommended for use as a shampoo or conditioner I tried it on my hair and it left it feeling good too.

If it hadn't been for the overpowering scent I'd probably have give this body wash five stars. As it is it gets four, but feel free to upgrade it if you like the smell of other Aussie branded products.

3.0 out of 5 stars Best suited to large families or batch cooking, 4 Feb. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I've had a small slow cooker for many years and find it handy for making curries and stews. Just pile in the ingredients and let it do its stuff. It's very simple to use, but a bit inflexible. This new slow cooker is rather more sophisticated.

Its best new feature is that the cooking vessel is made of non-stick coated cast aluminium rather than pottery. This means that you can do the initial frying of onions, browning of meat, etc, directly in the pot, retaining all the flavour and juices and saving washing up a separate pan. Once the onions are softened and the meat is seared (assuming you're making a stew or casserole) you can add your stock, seasoning and vegetables, transfer the pot to the cooker base, set the cooking speed and timer and leave it. The vessel is much lighter than one made of pottery, so it's easier to lift and wash up.

The controls are handy and intuitive. One knob sets the cooking rate - fast, slow or keep warm - the other sets the cooking time. Once the timer has finished it automatically reverts to the "keep warm" setting.

It all sounds ideal, but there are a couple of problems. The first is that it makes a unpleasant electrical-plastic smell in use. This is doubtless a matter of running in and will probably dissipate after a couple of uses. The other is more serious. It's this - it's probably set up right for large cooking batches, but it fails badly with smaller ones. For example, I decided to make a chicken casserole for two. With all the ingredients it probably only came a third of the way up the bowl. I set it to cooking speed 1 (the "slow" setting) and left it, checking every hour or so. It soon became clear that the "slow" setting (which I had expected to give a very gentle, slow cook, as my old slow cooker did) was much more like a fast simmer or low boil. After five hours more than half the liquid content had disappeared and I had to turn it off as it was threatening to boil dry. Everything was overcooked.

This isn't what I had hoped for. I had expected the slow cooker to regulate the cooking temperature correctly and I wonder if it doesn't have a problem with its thermostat. That might help to explain the electrical-plastic smell it gave off.

It's worth noting that the enclosed booklet contains recipes for 6-8 servings and I expect that the cooker would work properly if it were more nearly full. It'd be great for batch cooking (for the freezer) or for big parties, barbecues, chilli cook-offs or making jam or marmalade. But for a couple or a small to medium family a smaller, better-regulated cooker would make a much better choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars A treat for the face, 4 Feb. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Winter is a terrible time for our skin. Freezing cold air, horizontal rain, sleet and snow and scouring winds. Even the most rugged of chaps needs something to mitigate against the chilly season's corrosive effects.

A good moisturiser is half the solution, of course. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise if you want to keep your skin looking fresh, wrinkle-free and youthful. But the problem with moisturiser is that it tends to build up, blocking pores and preventing the skin from breathing properly. The answer is to give your face a thorough but gentle cleanse. And this is where Mėnaji Deep Cleansing Masque can really help.

Just find a space of your own, make your face slightly moist with a wash-cloth and gently apply the masque on your face and neck. It smells great and goes on easily. Then take half an hour or so of you-time. Read a book, watch TV, surf the web, listen to music. Whatever you do, don't take any selfies or make any video calls, especially to anyone of a sensitive disposition. As the masque dries and absorbs toxins and accumulated grime from your skin, it turns a Goth-like white. (If you're a Goth, ignore what I just wrote but be sure to use this masque too. All that make-up can really do for your skin.) Finally, rinse off with warm water.

The effect is remarkable. What was once scaly and harsh is now soft and gentle. Filth, environmental particles and excessive grease have gone, to be replaced by a full, youthful look. It's time to come out of purdah, greet your favourite person and invite him or her to stroke your face. After that...well, that's up to you.

This stuff is expensive, no doubt about it, but what price can you put on clear youthful-looking skin? Well worth its five stars from me.

Mėnaji Face and Body Scrub 170 ml

3.0 out of 5 stars Good and effective, but contains acrylate crosspolymers, 31 Jan. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Good grief, this stuff is strong! I generally use nothing more powerful than a gentle cleanser on my face, but this scrub really lives up to its name. It feels quite aggressive when you apply it - like rubbing your face with a mixture of sand and soap - and the first time I tried the product it left me feeling quite apprehensive. What if I had rubbed my skin red and raw? That would not be the effect I was looking for...

I needn't have worried. Taking it gently and rubbing for two to three minutes as the instructions direct leaves the skin feeling smooth and soft - and not at all red. It's certainly got the approval of my OH. It's perfumed, but the scent is low-key and doesn't linger. So far, so good.

But... this product contains acrylate. That's the plastic the abrasive particles in it are made of. Harmless, you might think, but not necessarily. There is evidence that these particles are getting into the food chain by being flushed into seas and lakes and eaten by aquatic life. If this worries you, you might want to consider alternatives made with plant husks rather than plastic. There are plenty of them.

So, a good effective product, but it carries an environmental question mark which means only three stars from me, I'm afraid. If Mėnaji change the formulation, I'll change my rating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Effective and easy to handle, 30 Jan. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
These dishwasher tablets fit in the middle of the Finish range. I tested them in a small tabletop dishwasher at 50°C.

They do a pretty good job - giving a good shine on crockery, very little streaking on glass and decent results with stainless steel and silver cutlery. They claim to avoid glass corrosion and dulling.

I usually buy own-brand tablets and use half a tablet for each wash (because of having a small dishwasher). Due to the packaging (each tablet is sealed in a water-soluble wrapper for easy handling) and the powerball it's not possible to split them in two. While I appreciate that most people won't want to do this, it does make them more expensive per wash if you do. That aside, it's easy to recommend these tablets.

4.0 out of 5 stars A big sound from a big pair of 'phones, 20 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A really nice, punchy, well-balanced sound from my Sansa Clip+. Time will tell when it comes to their longevity, but the neat pouch that comes with these 'phones should help protect them when not in use and the right-angle connector makes it easier to wrap the wire around the player. The pouch is big enough to accommodate the 'phones along with my player, which is a real bonus.

As other reviewers have noted, these 'phones are quite large, especially if you use the foam pads provided. As the sound holes are small and easily blocked by even a small amount of ear wax, I think it's essential to use the pads to prevent the holes from getting clogged up. Potential purchasers should bear this in mind.

This bundle of wires and connectors will save the Arduino and Raspberry Pi user lots of time when making connections from I/O ports to external devices like motor controllers. Just tear off as many wires as you need and plug in. Very cost-effective, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value, 29 Dec. 2014

No complaints when taking into account the price paid. I wouldn't use one of these with an expensive 'scope and eyepieces, but if what you want is a bit of a boost when looking at bright objects like the Moon, Saturn and Jupiter it does the job just fine.
