The Tribune: A Novel of Ancient Rome (The Tribune Series Book 1)
The Tribune: A Novel of Ancient Rome (The Tribune Series Book 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not put it down, 9 Oct 2013

Held me from the beginning and found it a great read. For those of you who like this period and like the action in the Roman series then you will enjoy the book. In addition there is a bit of a detective novel within the main theme but it is well done and adds a little twist to the normal roman story. In addition interesting characters appear in the book. I enjoyed the novel and I think you will too.

A very good read again if you have read the other two books by Jason. You will be used to his style of writing by the time you get to this book and get right into the book and not distracted by his style of writing. I also learned some more history and although much of the book is fictional but it is also based on recent discoveries in North America.

Its a shame that Brian his not followed up this book with others in the series as it is well written with good story lines. His suggested argument on what happened to the lost eagle seemed reasonable and knowing the eagle would be lost did not take anything away from the ending in the book. No hesitation is recommending the book at this terrific price.

This is the second of Jason's books which I have read and I am looking forward to the third in the series. Jason's books (so far) have been told by the main character of the story which is unusual these days, but since the book is full of action with a great story line it has not been a problem. Well worth the money.

Definitely recommend this book. Great story line which keeps you hooked from the start. Well worth the money. Its a shame more books don't offer such good value and encourage other readers.

I purchased part one (this book) and found the book great and well worth the money. But I later discovered that I could have the whole series for a few pounds and would recommend that you purchase the Mast of War, costing a little more, and avoid this part one book. Part one is a great read and it only cost me about 25p on my kindle and perhaps you would like to try out the author first. Take a chance and go for the complete story. I don't think you will regret it. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars New slant on history, 9 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the first novel of this period I have read and found the story interesting and absorbing. I was more suprised to learn that the basic outline story of the book was true. All in all it was a great read and filled in some gaps in my knowledge of history. Last but not least the price was great if you own a kindle.

I looked forward to this book and was not disappointed. My only criticism is that it is a bit short and the basic story line is very much in line with his previous books of the Empire series. Still a good read and worth the money but the competition is stiff with many good authors out there.

Last of the trilogy from Peter Darmin, though I would suggest you read the first one first, etc. I really enjoyed the three books and have no hesitation in recommending the 3 books. Gives you a non-Roman slant to history.
