1.0 out of 5 stars Self indulgent, flabby piece of garbage, 21 May 2013

I found this to be a nauseating, self-congratulatory pile of rubbish. Can just see Tarantino patting himself on the back for a "brave, honest and forthright" portrayal of a sickening part of history. Quite why he had to relish so obviously in the lurid violence is beyond me - the glamourised and fetishistic scenes of extreme brutality were so badly misplaced as was the attempt at humour. The scene with the masks has to be seen t be believed for its true awfulness and total misjudgement. The tone of that scene sat so badly and at extreme odds with the rest of the movie. In short, a vile piece of filmmaking masquerading as something important to say.

Wanted to alert potential customers to fact this release is NOT region B despite having BBFC 15 rating. To view you will need region A compatible machine. Is it worth the effort - probaly not if you've seen these type of movies before. Its a rather bog standard affair with generic storyline, some ham acting and OK 3D. The wire work is extravagant and over-used. One other note of caution - the subtitles are SDH and cannot be turned off to show the more usual subtitling. It can become annoying very quickly if you do not require these.

An outstanding record that continues where the last 2 left off. The choice of Dave Gahan to lead on vocals was one I had my doubts about - not enough true emotion and depth in his voice. Needn't have worried. His voice is quite sublime and captures the essence of Soulsavers as though he was born to do this. The songs are what you woud expect --strong, heartfelt, gospelly musings over gothic sensibilities (but in a good way!). It is best enjoyed as a whole though stand out tracks Longest Day and Take Me Back Home are accessible immediately. Buy this CD. It challenges Shearwater's "Animal Joy" as CD of the year (so far).
