2.0 out of 5 stars Boompods, 10 Sep 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Pros
- Bright with clarity at the top end and middle (so good for spoken audio).
- Comfortable in the ear.
- Neat travel case.

Cons
- Price: much better earphones available for this price bracket (e.g. RHA MA350s even with their poor build quality - made up by their excellent customer service and 3 yr warranty).
- These offer no better audio than the earphones that come with Apple products.
- Very little bass (even after meddling with iPhone EQ levels).
- Rustling from the braided cable is annoying. Looping the earbud around the ear helps with the rustling, but leaves the controls un-naturally close to the ear.
- Noise-cancellation? Did not notice any difference when compared to other in-ear earphones, so more a gimmick in my opinion.

I cannot recommend these as a replacement to the standard Apple earphones, and would suggest looking elsewhere for a replacement set of earphones. Surprised by the high scores for such a poor audio experience, which is overpriced.

Vax Performance Floor-2-Floor Pet Eco Upright Vacuum Cleaner

2.0 out of 5 stars A powerful but cumbersome cleaner, 28 Aug 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I found this cleaner to be cumbersome to carry and unwieldy to use, it doesn't run smoothly over wooden floors, rugs or carpet despite trying the different floor settings. The weight and lack of mobility would be countered if the hose and tools were good. However the hose is far too short at approximately a meter in length to be able to vacuum the stairs, plus to use it you've got take apart the cleaner and reassemble it making it a pain to use to clean the fiddly nooks and crannies of the house. It just all feels badly thought out. I also found the plastic to feel a bit flimsy as if it could break apart with vigorous use.

However, the suction was excellent and it did make light work of the cat hair on the rug and the power cord is very long meaning I didn't have to change plug sockets as I was cleaning. But these positives fail to outweigh the negatives of this disappointing vacuum cleaner.

The Golem and the Djinni
The Golem and the Djinni
by Helene Wecker
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £11.89

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read, 31 Aug 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Set in New York at the end of the nineteenth century, this tells the story of two magical creatures, a Golem and Djinni, brought together who must learn to live amongst humans and to trust each other if they are to survive. On the whole, I found the story to be well written and the two lead characters engaging, however I found the denouement to be a bit rushed and a little anti-climatic. Still, 'The Golem and the Djinni' is an enjoyable novel and definitely worth a read.

Price: £4.90

5.0 out of 5 stars A deodorant you can trust, 2 July 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a lot different compared to normal deodorants where you apply the night before. It is everything you need in a deodorant; smooth, effective and quick drying leaving no marks. It smells great and even though it does advise to use the night before it is just as effective to use during the day. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting a trustworthy deodorant which does what it says.

5.0 out of 5 stars My cat loves them!, 4 Jun 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My cat is more of a food snob than I am, who turns her nose up to all sorts of food (and more besides!) However, Iams Ocean Fish and Chicken are the exception, she positively loves them. The bags are are large and provide plenty of servings so the three pack that Amazon sell will last a long time.

Now, if I could only find a way to stop the neighbour's cat eating it too..!

Auschwitz: A Doctor's Eyewitness Account (Penguin Modern Classics)
Auschwitz: A Doctor's Eyewitness Account (Penguin Modern Classics)

4.0 out of 5 stars A short, horrific read, 24 May 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
'Auschwitz' is an eyewitness account of a Hungarian Jew, Miklós Nyiszli, who was sent to Auschwitz along with his wife and daughter. Upon his arrival Nyiszli is separated into the 'able' where his training as a pathologist meant he became Dr. Mengele's assistant pathologist performing autopsies aiding Mengele's twisted research into twins, dwarfs and other subspecies that risked polluting the Aryan race.

What follows is a dispassionate and heartbreaking retelling of his experiences and the impossible positions the SS savagery put him. Does he confirm the diagnosis of typhus and condemn the death of thousands in a camp, or contradict the doctors, sparing the the ill for a little longer but condemning the doctors to death?

A difficult and horrific, but important read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A useful aid, 23 May 2013
This review is from: Selling For Dummies (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is the first "Dummies" guide that I've read, and although I'm not employed in direct sales I work in retail and thought that it would be useful to develop my skills. It turns out that my intuition was correct! Although not every chapter was relevant to me, there was enough clearly explained tips and advice in here to be of great benefit to me, and as a result my copy is now littered with little sticky notes for quick access to the most helpful sections.

Recommended.

Grimm Tales: For Young and Old (Penguin Hardback Classics)
Grimm Tales: For Young and Old (Penguin Hardback Classics)
by Philip Pullman
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful collection, 24 Jan 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Philip Pullman's retelling of the Brother Grimm's classic fairytales is a joy to read. Consisting of well known stories such as 'Snow White', 'Little Red Riding Hood' and 'Cinderella' plus a whole lot more that I was not familiar with like 'Hans-my-Hedgehog', 'The Donkey Cabbage' and my favourite tale in this collection, 'The Brave Little Tailor'. Each of the fifty tales are concluded by a brief note where Pullman discusses the history of the story, plus any changes he has made or would've made to the story. My only gripe - and it is a minor one - is the lack of illustrations that this book would have surely benefitted from.

However, this is a wonderful collection that I will return to time and time again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keeping it simple, 21 Nov 2012
This review is from: Bill Granger Easy (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is the second Bill Granger cookbook that I own (the other being the excellent Bill's Basics) and it has quickly found it's place as a favourite in my kitchen. It's as beautifully presented as you'd imagine a Granger cookbook to be, and whilst some reviewers have given it negative reviews due to the recipes simplicity, for me there is place for 'Easy'. I don't always want to slave away in the kitchen for hours on end to produce great food, sometimes I need to cook something that is ready to eat in a sort time, or something that can be quickly assembled and left in the oven for a couple of hours allowing me to get on with other important things. It is on these occasions when 'Easy' makes perfect sense, and it is for that simple reason that I highly recommend Granger's latest book.
