4.0 out of 5 stars Seems to work quite well, 10 Feb. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a replacement for using dental floss which can be a bit awkward to use.

Charge up the unit - takes around 24 hours
Fill up the unit with water - a little compartment with a plastic cover in the handle
Brush you teeth
Then place the nozzle at the base of the gap between your teeth and press the button. The unit will then jet a little blast of water and air designed to try and clear out the gunk in between your teeth.

It does seem to work. The first time I tried it it was a little bit scary, and actually caused my gums to bleed a little, but after that it has been fine and it does appear to remove any gunk. It is a lot easier than messing around with floss. I am not 100% sure it works any better than dental floss, but I will find out the next time I am at the dentists.

A Robot In The Garden
A Robot In The Garden

Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.08

4.0 out of 5 stars heartwarming little story about a man and his robot, 15 Jan. 2015
This review is from: A Robot In The Garden (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
At it's heart this is a very simple story about 2 people, who are broken in different ways, that help each other heal. In this case it is a man and a small robot, so that adds the twist.

The book is set in the near future, where most things are the same apart from the fact that we now how helper androids around to do all those menial jobs that you don't enjoy. Our main protagonist has had his world broken by his parents death in a plane crash and is simply drifting through his life until a small robot appears in his garden, who he befriends and tries to help find his creator.

The robot is not your standard robot and behaves more like a child than anything else, and this forces the man to adapt and begin to grow again as they travel around the world looking for their creator, and in the process finding themselves and each other.

It is a little bit hokey, but then maybe that is just the cynical side of myself. What ever way you look at it I raced through this book in a few night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you are looking for an enjoyable, heartwarming book then this is worth a look.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, inoffensive read, 3 Jan. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This was a very enjoyable read, something you can pick up easily and breeze through in a few days.

It's a light hearted comic read about a mystery and the detective that is trying to figure it out. It's a simple story about a disappearance, but it is the characters that are the stars of this novel not the plot. Very easily this book could be turned into one of those quirky films you catch late night on tv that you've never heard about and then spend an hour and a half enjoying a really good film.

I was slightly worried as it is a translation from spanish, sometimes the subtleties of the language of the book can be lost, but in this case that wasn't an issue. The translation is good that I couldn't find fault, indeed I would be impressed if any could work it out if they weren't told.

The book isn't going to change your word, but it will put a smile on your face :)

Cole & Mason Croft 12-Jar Filled Herb and Spice Rack - Transparent
Price: £39.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Classy looking and feeling spice set, 3 Jan. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Can't really complain about this. You get a nice selection of 12 different spices in well made dispensers and a solid wooden stand.

The dispensers already have the spices in them and have a twist lid, that allows you to either select a small or large opening.. You get Coriander, Parsley, Chilli Flakes, Fennel, Cinnamon, Rosemary, Oregano, Mint, Sage, Basil, Thyme & Marjoram. You can remove the lids completely to refill them.

3.0 out of 5 stars An ok phone in a tough market, 4 Dec. 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The 960*540 5" Screen is quite a low resolution screen when compared to some of the competitors in that price bracket. I would expect a 720p screen on a 5inch screen as the 960*540 screen looks a bit blocky when examined really closely. In reality it is 220ppi so it is fine for day to day use, but when you compare it to higher res phone you will notice the difference. Strangely my screen came with a screen protector already applied, but since most people do this via after market options so I suppose that is ok.

The Quad Core 1.3 GHz Processor seems to be reasonably speedy. Tried out a game and opened a few tabs in the browser and nothing seemed to lag or stutter.

2000 mAh battery – Good sized battery. The default screen brightness is set quite high so you may want to reduce that to increase the battery life. It seems to last ok, getting a full day out of it before needing a charge.

8GB with SD card support. I don’t know what the maximum size it takes as I only have a 8GB micro sd card, but it seems to work fine with that. The phone has dual SIM support, so that could be handy for travellers. It doesn’t appear to be 4G compatible but that isn’t a big issue as 3G barely works most of the time where I live.

It has a standard version Android Kitkat and so if you have ever used Android before you will be right at home. The one thing I would say is the default wallpaper is pretty hideous, but that is easy to change so not an issue.

Power and Volume buttons are on opposite sides of the phone than I would expect, power is on the top left and the volume on the top right. Strangely enough the manual actually has these reversed on the diagram so maybe they were confused as well.

8MP rear camera – protrudes from the back of the phone by a couple of mm’s but I don’t see that as much of an issue. The actual results seem pretty standard for a mobile phone, ok as long as the light is good but poor in darker conditions. The flash seems to work fine but again you aren’t going to win any photography awards. The 2MP front camera is ok for maybe a profile pic on a social media page, but apart from that it is pretty useless.

For the price there is nothing that will drive you crazy, but when you compare against the Moto G phone you can see the flaws. Decent hardware for the price, but nothing that will set the world alight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Was Napoleon Great?, 2 Dec. 2014
This review is from: Napoleon the Great (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The main premise of this book is in the title itself, should Napoleon be called by the suffix ‘the Great’ – of which the author of this book is very much of the opinion that he should. There are very few people of history that fall into this category and he believes this very strongly (Alexander is the only one that springs to mind for me).

On the aesthetic side of things the book is beautiful. A simple white and gold cover with a simple “N” logo on it is perfect, and the inside contains some wonderful illustrations from through the years. It is a weighty tome to be sure but that simply allows it to contain all the pertinent information you would ever need, running through from his youth all the way through to his confinement. Note that this is not a book you will finish in a few days with the amount of info included by Andrew Roberts being incredibly detailed.

Napoleon was an incredibly impressive man, a great general, an Emperor of a whole country, a leader of men and maybe even the saviour of France. Plus he had a very good song written about him by a famous Swedish band. In a strange way the fact that a pop song can reference him 2 centuries later is an indication of the impact he has had on the world, and I believe that he would be very happy with this particular version of history (if not the Abba song itself).

Whether you consider this book to be an accurate representation of his life is another question with some people arguing that all the civic changes instigated during his reign was down to other people, and whether his military victories were counter balanced by his ruinous invasion of Russia, or by his famous defeat at Waterloo. Either way this book will give you an enormous insight into the man and the legend.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent little Bluetooth speaker that plays well, looks good and feels nice., 3 Nov. 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The design is slightly angularised tube shape. It will sit quite happily on a table (and can actually stand vertically as well as lie flat), and is easy to pick up and handle. It has a rubberised cover which makes it easy to hold and has 3 nice large buttons on the top for connecting and adjusting the volume. There is a standard 3.5mm aux connection in the back of it, and a micro-usb connection, if you want to physically connect up your phone/mp3 player.

To connect via Bluetooth, simply press the power button on the back (look for the power icon) and then press and hold the Bluetooth connection button on the top for 3 seconds and search on your phone. You should see the Logitech X300 show up in your optiosn and then simply click to connect.

For sound quality, probably the most important thing in a speaker, the sounds seems to have plenty of bass (not too much or too little) and it seems to play quite clearly. I don’t think I heard any distortion on the selection of music I tried (everything from jazz to the latest Royal Blood album). It is nice and loud as well, easily filling a room.

You can actually use this speaker as a speaker phone as there is a built in mic on top of it (the hole is just behind the buttons). It seems to work quite well with the person on the other end being able to hear me quite well, even from a couple of feet away.

Final thing is the battery life. According to the manufacturer you get around 5 hours from a charge, which seems pretty accurate from what I have experienced. Of course it depends on how loud you are playing the music at. Also note that the thing that shows the battery is low is a little light on the back of the unit, so it can be difficult to notice that you are running low.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect replacement for a Garmin Watch, 29 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Needed a replacement strap for a Garmin Forerunner Sportwatch, and since they don't supply them for my model I used this in conjunction with a wrist sweatband. It works perfectly and means I don't have to spend over £100 for a replacement watch.

Strap works perfectly for what I needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good little polishing kit, 29 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Was looking for a little shoe cleaning kit for my nice shoes, live most of life in trainers so I didn't need a massive kit.
This does the job with both a black and neutral polish, brushes and cloth. Polish seems to be of a good quality, and even though it is quite a small kit it works perfectly for what I need.
