4.0 out of 5 stars A great sequel, 3 Feb. 2016

The Butlers are back in this second installment of their turbulent lives in London's East End. This book covers the years 1976 - 1980 continuing their story right from where the original book, The Trap, had ended. It is almost just as good, with many storylines and sub plots to please all. In this book, Vinny Butler's old enemies are out to get him, but there are plenty of new enemies too, who are after payback. When his precious three year old daughter Molly is abducted, the family close ranks and forget their disagreements. But will they be able to save her in time? I believe that the third installment in this series is out later this month.

An excellent companion to the aspiring author, detailing novel structure. K M Weiland discusses absolutely everything concerning story, scene and sentence structure, right from the very basics to advanced options and techniques. She shows no hesitation in sharing her vast knowledge on the subject, providing the reader with a clear, conscise path to novel structure. In one word, amazing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my style, 24 Jan. 2016

I had no problem with the fact that this book was offered in three separate parts and reviews downgraded for this reason seem rather unfair. Having said that, I must admit however, that this is not really my kind of book, so I did not finish it. Others however, may enjoy this author's style.

Isabella: Braveheart of France
Isabella: Braveheart of France

4.0 out of 5 stars An engrossing read, 24 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Although this biographical account on Queen Isabella is narrated in the present tense, I still found it to be an enjoyable, engrossing read. It details the life and times of Isabella of France, who marries Edward the Confessor at 12 years old and becomes Queen of England. Isabella soon discovers that she must grow up quickly to support her rather weak husband, who also harbours a secret which threatens their royal marriage, shaking it to the core. An absorbing account of an interesting chapter of English history.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, 3 Jan. 2016

Casey Edwards arrives in Soho to find the long lost baby she was forced to give up as a teenage mother. The book concentrates on her struggle and the lives of those surrounding her, in the shady world of London's gangland. It is quite an interesting storyline, with a good start, allowing you to become engrossed in it, if you persist. In the closing stages, the pace picks up, making for a great ending. I came close to awarding it four stars, however, there seems to be something lacking once you are through the first two or three chapters, until you have read about a third of the book. It may be that the the backstory could have been handled differently or that those chapters could have been more interesting, I don't know. Not a bad book, however.

5.0 out of 5 stars Evil corrupts, 23 Dec. 2015

This review is from: Ostland (Kindle Edition)
A thought provoking factually based book. In 1941 Berlin, a vicious serial killer is on a deadly mission. To kill and mutilate countless innocent women for his own perverted gratification. Georg Heuser is one of the detectives assigned to the case. The relentless manhunt gives him the chance to apprehend the murderer and prove his worth. Fast forward in Germany1959, this same man is about to be put on trial for crimes of unimaginable horror, in Ostland on the Russian Front. The expertly portrayed descent of this idealistic young man into a monster, is the irrefutable evidence of how minds and souls can be corrupted during wartime, when even sadistic torture and murder hold no fear of any consequences. Brilliant, will read more from this author.

HowDunit - The Book of Poisons
HowDunit - The Book of Poisons

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but...., 16 Dec. 2015

An excelent reference source regarding everything to do with poisons, invaluable to mystery authors. There are many chapters covering a wide area, from actual poisons themselves to poisonous plants and animals, medicines and many more. This book truly deserves five stars, however, I have had to mark it down. The reason for this is the poor, frozen, contents section from where I am only able to access the first five chapters. The kindle contents page will not budge, whatever I try to do. This will make it rather tiresome in future, whenever I need to use it as a reference. The author must urgently modify the contents section in order to facilitate the accessing process.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sinister evil awakens, 2 Dec. 2015

A chilling offering. A couple take a short holiday in Italy, aiming to rediscover their passion for each other and come to terms with the fact that they are destined to remain childless. From the beautiful shores of Dorset to Shakespeare's renown Verona, an ancient unimaginable evil awaits the unwary travellers. It will soon ingrain itself into their lives, with terrible consequences. As always, very well written, spooky and interesting throughout. Very atmospheric and suspenseful, ending with a couple of nice twists. Definitely recommended, will read more from this author.
