5.0 out of 5 stars Essential purchase for any electronics undergraduate or postgraduate, 30 Aug. 2013
A well written book on analogue and digital electronic design to add to many other well written books on the same subject area. The significance of this book is that it was written by the founder (MIT Prof Anand Agarwal and associates) of the first edX course ([...] edX was built on MITx who produced the first free globally accessible undergraduate course of any type, the 6.002x Circuits and Electronics subject. An important experience for any serious budding electronics professional since it is the same course that attending MIT Undergrads do. The book is also not expensive, in fact it is very good value. You can do a free on-line course and exam based on the book contents.

Loft Conversions

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good but one weak aspect, 30 Aug. 2013

This review is from: Loft Conversions (Paperback)
This is a well written book particularly for people starting out on loft conversion construction. The author is clearly experienced and knows his subject well. But I felt it was weak in discussing what design styles and types are acceptable for the Council Planning Departments. This is an area that really could benefit from intense scrutiny and explanation. Discussion of Planning Permission Applications that get approval with what and why other applications are rejected. Some explanation of the Council staff qualifications and experience in construction and architecture. I feel this author has the ability to tackle this well but he has sadly chosen to skirt round this really important topic. What are the design standards for dormer windows and how do they relate to the existing house design?

Handbook of Quality Integrated Circuit Manufacturing
Handbook of Quality Integrated Circuit Manufacturing
by Robert Zorich
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than expected, 30 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Buying books on the Internet has risks, it needs luck and trust. The book I ordered is excellent value with contents much better than expected. It is a second hand book in virtually new condition. For anyone interested in learning about Integrated Circuit Manufacturing, this 580 page book covers all the ground in a well structured and presented manner.

Herb Schildt's C++ Programming Cookbook
Herb Schildt's C++ Programming Cookbook
by Herbert Schildt
Edition: Paperback
Price: £16.58

4.0 out of 5 stars C++ Programming Cookbook, 25 Sept. 2011
This book provides an excellent method and style of teacing the difficult subject of becoming a C++ programmer, learning from no C++ knowledge at all. If you have not been a programmer before it is likely to be too hard going for many people. If you have been a programmer before you should find it works its way through the complex world of C++ in a methodical and systematic way. Most explanations are good and come with relevant worked examples. Coverage is thorough up to intermediate level. If you are serious about learning C++ then at least three books would be advised, in which case I would definitely recommend this book as one of them.

There is one very weak area though, and that is input/output coding for Windows and/or UNIX systems. Anyone would think that C++ programs run happily inside a computer and never need to communicate with the outside world. There is little or no help, for example, on how to print from your program, it is weak on some aspects of keyboard I/O, and there is no help on read/write programs to/from USB or hard disc. Sadly it is difficult finding a book that does this practical aspect of C++ programming well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Up and running with AutoCAD 2012, 25 Sept. 2011
This is an exceptional book - for the USA market. Explanations and examples are all based around feet and inches. Most of the world use metric measurements including the UK. Setting the grid is explained in Chapter 2, more or less ignoring the all important metric setup procedures. Since all subsequent Chapters are 'building blocks' based on Chapter 1 and 2, metric users are more or less stuck at the beginning of the book. If you know a good teacher s/he can explain this aspect, but if you are a 'home learner' this book is a no no. A great shame.
