Corsair Builder Series CXM 750W Modular 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX/EPS PSU
Corsair Builder Series CXM 750W Modular 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX/EPS PSU
Price: £68.98

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Quiet and well made, 24 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This modular 750W psu is very quiet and has just about every conceivable cable you will ever need, looking at the stable voltages delivered, and performance under load alongside slightly lower system temperatures I can only see improvements over standard psu's shipped with many pc cases or systems built to a price limit.
The included three year warranty adds to the impression that the manufacturer is confident they have made a good product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Damn Quick!, 27 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm getting consistent 492/500 MB per second read/writes from this with response times in the very very low milliseconds , I hope it stays stable, as I've been rather crazy and also bought the 1 TB capacity for my primary drive.

As a direct result of this insanity my system boots from from completely off fully in 4.7 seconds [win 8.1 64 bit,I7 4770k/16 GB DDR3] over provisioning and RAPID are enabled and the primary drive is set to maximum performance.

This 120 GB drive is my secondary drive and compares well to the slightly faster 1 TB Model EVO for speed.

The Samsung magician software sort of 'hoovers up' your files and the OS! from your old existing hard drive and then puts them on your ssd when you then cold swap them.

Be aware some computers will not like this if the oem pre-installed OS is on a protected or encrypted partition (and especially if the licence number for the os is in the actual computer bios)

I would advise to be guarded if you do not have a full version of an os disk, full backups of valuable files; and to try and learn all about your bios settings before you embark on the transition from HDD to SSD.

It may be a very painless smooth and easy transition for some models of computer but there are certain manufacturers who do not allow you to boot your os from anything but the drive they originally put in your machine - so in those circumstances unless you can literally rewrite/flash the bios or change the motherboard completely, things would be very frustrating, pronto.

Bear in mind where certain manufacturers supply a pre-installed HDD only version of your os, another *mechanical* HDD may not be allowed to boot,so it wouldn't be an SSD only issue.

For a new system build these are very nice and take little current and are up and running almost immediatley - remember to connect to sata 3 with the correct cables - I seldom spot them getting hotter than 40c

I used this > http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005UA3I72/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
alongside the data migration software provided with zero issues, you could try your own preferred method or buy the kit version.

So an absolute delight - will keep you posted though!

5.0 out of 5 stars Runs two ssd's at 6 Gb/s without any problem, 26 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have a Primary 1TB SAMSUNG EVO and a secondary 120GB EVO in my system. Using these I get the full speeds in sata 3 ports.
Not a pain to disconnect and reconnect like some cheapo cables can be.
No complaints here.

One of the few figure 8 leads made in the UK and to a very high standard, the price is very high - but i can tell these will last forever if you really want to stay safe on a special piece of equipment it's ideal.

No problems with capacity and battery chemistry is as quoted - identical fitting size - 4400 mA H.

Will update on charge cycles and lifespan.
This battery has the green led 'meter' as seen on the original battery.

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks great, full of promise- ultimately you may miss the high end in your audio in the long run., 24 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
At half the price of the RRP on the what hifi five star review I grabbed this little fella fast.
Since buying this it's been a frustrating experience(to say the least) getting it to sound rich and confident at the top end and bottom end of the frequency spectrum.
Its damping factor is non-existent!
I'm not a total hi-fi snob, but I do think this 'solution' is a real bodged job for the heart of a home cinema - ultimately after buying 8 very good speakers all I want now is to hear half decent HIFI sound and not the awful AND RIDICULOUS treble attenuation and overwhelming boominess of this unit.

The interface is not nice to use on the TV screen nor app- Audessey mic and setup will assume you want the amp turned up and down as and when something of any quality is attempting to be reproduced (like a poorly compressed band limited 1980's fm broadcast) and if you turn the amp on full with no input you'll hear noises, which for me is my first test of any amplifier for signal to noise ratio.
I should have known better.
Hearing bad loudly is still loud badness.
Individually calibrating the eq on EVERY speaker manually by ear can make this almost halfway acceptable for general use,but I did expect better from Denon.

The hours put into this painstaking process could be better saved by buying a better unit I feel.As you adjust each frequency band on the equaliser it actually audibly clicks through the speakers which just seems nasty and cheap.

Fine for use on a games console once in a while, but steer clear if you want to hear everything balanced clearly (as in a permanent home cinema that's used frequently) is my advice!
On multi-channel stereo this would probably suit a restaurant for background music more-so than a home theatre setup.

I'd seriously consider this unit for a leisure/hospitality business streaming internet radio at 128 k.

For me, there has to be a mismatch of components/boards inside this unit in pre & post processing and the final output stage does sound absolutely soulless to my ears and way too far from being harmonious when all channels are driven @6 ohms using identical full range speakers for all 7 amplified channels.
The unit can sometimes sound (quite randomly)out of phase by 80 - 110 degrees when speakers are correctly connected using the automated eq and volume features.

This phase shifting had me continually checking the polarity of all my speakers for the first week of ownership until the penny finally dropped.
I shall be tearing this thing down soon to ascertain why it performs the way it does and will share my findings.

5.0 out of 5 stars For no fuss listening of cd,tape and fm/am radio - great, 23 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I purchased this for a relative that really dislikes pressing more than an on/off button and the volume up and down.
Now I have recently visited them and was surprised at the clarity of the unit on vocal ranges..

It's obviously no powerhouse because that would exhaust batteries but you can hear more of a natural tone to the human voice on the radio if compared to many Bluetooth style speakers.

Unit has about 2 watts per channel RMS, the tape head azimuth is well calibrated with acceptable wow and flutter for a small portable.
Its internal amp and speakers have an auxiliary input for an mp3 player/phone via a stereo 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable(not included)which are widely available.

No issues with amplifier buzzing etc. So ideal as something to listen to old tapes and radio where you don't need things super loud and want to keep IT simple.
CD will wear batteries down more than the other functions but it is mains powered too.

The handle is more than capable of staying attached to this unit for its lifetime and is something my relative wanted on a product for easy moving
It takes 6 c cells or mains.

2.0 out of 5 stars Simply do not last as long as other lithium batteries for me., 16 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
In a Logitech K400 wireless keyboard,two of these have lasted from 19th March - 16th May 2014.
Usually I can get around 5 months out of the energiser AA lithiums in this same keyboard, but saw these philips at a better price than the energisers and gave them a try.

On opening the philips lithiums when new (in very good protective packaging) I tested one battery at 1.68 v DC ,the other battery in the *same* sealed pack was 1.6 v DC,so I was already thinking these aren't quite the same thing as the energisers which do test at 1.73-1.78 v DC on opening when new and i've never seen such voltage variance on no load when new in the energiser lithiums in any one pack i've had from amazon before.

I would suggest that I may have got a 'bad batch' because i can get a couple of months in a k400 keyboard out of a two decent alkalines.

Even though the pack states they were well within use before dates, there's not much a customer can do once the batteries are failing or flat, after all-as sadly all batteries go flat, these really shouldn't have gone quite as flat in the time used.

When they stopped working in the K400 keyboard one of these philips lithium batteries was at 0.909 v DC and the second 1.10v DC so i can only conclude they were not both charged identically or that something was wrong with them.
In the energiser batteries I see them maintain a good voltage and then drain suddenly and not like these philips ones which seem to drain more like alkalines do - which for me was gradually over a shorter time and not suddenly over a longer time frame.
Hoping that other customers aren't unlucky with these.
