Horse Play: Churchminister series 5
Horse Play: Churchminister series 5
by Jo Carnegie
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Javier VS Rupert Campbell-Black, 31 Jan. 2012
I have read all of Jo Carnegie's previous books and had been very much looking forward to to the release of the latest chapter of life in Churchminster - I was not disappointed!
Many of the previous characters are back and their lives are as hectic as ever! The additional characters in this book are well written and we get to know them as well as the stable ones. Javier is a great addition and his parallels with Rupert Campbell-Black from Jilly Cooper's books are clear.
I think that Jo's books are almost a modern version of Jilly's - I love Jilly Cooper's books but the early ones are set in the 80s and however brilliant are a little dated. Jo has taken the countryside bonkbuster and updated it.
Can't wait for the next one...

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good one..., 13 Jan. 2012
I have very much enjoyed all of Paul Torday's previous novels and this was another good one.
Torday's style of writing is very intersting and I always enjoy the characters he builds. This is another book based around upper class folk in situations fairly detatched from reality!
Unlike other reviewers, I enjoy Torday's exageration and interesting take on the world. He left a few ends un-tied in this book but that has been the case in previous ones.
I have given 4 stars rather than 5 because i did not feel it was quite up to the standards of 'Salmon Fishing' and 'Irresistable Inheritance of Wilberforce'. I think it was just lacking a bit of the mystery and twists he has produced before.

5.0 out of 5 stars OK without guitars, 4 Jan. 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I purchased this game after a little umming and ahhing as i was not entirely sure if you could play without the guitars! I am a bit of a technophobe but did not think this info was clear anywhere. So just a heads-up for anyone considering this game as an addition to their singstar collection and who are not interested in the guitar function.
Oh, and the game is good fun. It even encouraged those who do not not normally play the game to get involved with it's selection of tunes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, lighthearted and typically Wendy Holden, 6 Oct. 2011
This review is from: Marrying Up (Kindle Edition)
I have read all of Wendy Holden's books and enjoyed most of them.
Unfortunately I found the two books released prior to this one slightly lacking but this one is right back on form.
I am surprised to read the other reviews and was worried the author was on a slippery slope, but i was not to be disappointed.
Maybe the other reviewers were expecting something different? All of Wendy Holden's other books are silly, fun and very easy reads. If you are expecting a complex storyline or emotional rollercoaster, this is not for you. If you are looking for a bit of escapism and sillyness - read it!
It has restored my love of Wendy Holden and i eagerly await the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful guide, 7 July 2011
My friends and I recently took a week break to Nice and this book was very helpful.
It has lots of info on restaurants and shops etc in sections of the town. The pull out map at the back was very useful (and works well as a fan too!). At the back of the book is a section about places nearby, a helpful indicator if not much info.
The only reason for 4 stars is that the book is now slightly out of date. We noticed that one or two of the restaurants/bars did not seem to exist (prob changed name). The gare routiere is now closed making bus trips a little more complicated (working out where to catch them) and the book was obviously written before this happened.
Overall a very worthwhile purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Story, 23 Sept. 2009
I am surprised by the very positive reviews already listed for this film. It may be that this film is more appealing if you have a sound knowledge of the characters and the history, but i found the storyline unclear and the character performances average. The film tries to cram too much in and this makes everything hard to follow. Unfortunately, did not live up to what it could have been.
