5.0 out of 5 stars Superb; a taste of an unheard Beatles, 13 Oct 2001
This review is from: Past Masters Volume Two (Audio CD)
After hearing 'Revolver' and subsequently changing my life, I thought these four couldn't get any better or cleverer. That is until I heard 'Rain', a song I'd been dying to hear. It is mind-blowing - great drumming from Ringo, superb harmonies from the other three, and strange lyrics. Then, as the drumming and bass stops, it plays backwards and their voices are so weird. Worth the listen.
As for the others, there's 'Revolution' - more famous than 'Rain' as a B-side to 'Hey Jude'. A rock number, it is brilliant. Another good track is George's 'Old Brown Shoe' - a pacy tune with an amazing bass line. His other song 'The Inner Light' has a beautiful Indian harmony and has clever lyrics.
If you own the 1 album, then I recommend you skip the singles you have to get more used to the others, especially 'You Know My Name'. I swear Rowley Birkin QC from 'The Fast Show' was created from John's grumbled voice at the end. This comedy song had me in stitches after hearing Dennis O'Bell sing.
Overall, this is a must for every Beatles fan. And 'Rain' is quality!

4.0 out of 5 stars Physcedelic man!!, 13 Oct 2001
This review is from: Magical Mystery Tour (Audio CD)
This was originally an EP up to track 6 ('I am the Walrus'), but later on the American version added a few singles and B-sides, and this makes up a top class album.
If you've heard that the TV-film 'Magical Mystery Tour' received poor reviews when it was aired on Boxing Day 1967, don't let that put you off this. Paul's 'Fool on the Hill' is beautiful, and John's 'I am the Walrus' is so strange, but wonderful. As for the singles, it has 'Strawberry Fields Forever', their greatest single and a contender for the best song they're every done, and 'Hello Goodbye', a wicked song.
Buy this album, as this was the last thing they did that was...........weird.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect 'Best Of' album, 13 Oct 2001
This review is from: The Beatles: 1 (Audio CD)
This goes through the different stages that made up The Beatles famous career. From their rock 'n' roll roots ('From Me To You') to their 'experimental studio' phase ('Paperback Writer') to their great ending despite the squabbling ('Come Together').
You should like nearly every song here, but the only problem is that it doesn't contain 'Strawberry Fields Forever' which never reached number 1 as you older folks prefered Englebert Humperdink! However, the album is superb.
