5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing to read this childrens book as an adult, 6 Oct 2013

It was fabulous to read this book as an adult. Although the themes are child like, the description, use of language and form of poetry means this book stands out and understandably why it has stood the test of time. The description of the autumn call of nature to move south is particularly evocative and makes you think as an adult of all the things you'd like to do if you could only let go of all those sensible hindrances.

5.0 out of 5 stars African Congolese mass, 6 Oct 2013
This is fabulous if you like African choirs and drums. Plus the track Sanctus was used in the film "IF" starring Malcolm McDowell.
There is a Benedictus as well and the last track Agnus Dei is magical...but only if you like deep African voices.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first book by this lady and I loved it, 28 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This was the first book I've read of Cathy Woodman's and I absolutely loved it. Of course it's written by a vet and I don't have any experience of what vets do, but the book picks you up and takes you along with all the sub-plots and the main plot line of the new vet and her love life. I also like Jill Mansell's books and this is like one of her stories but based round a vet's life, and in Devon. A good read especially for summer days.

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm an avid Sophie Kinsella fan but this was disappointing, 13 May 2013

This review is from: Wedding Night (Kindle Edition)
This was different to the other Sophie Kinsella books. For a start it takes the viewpoints of 2 sisters rather than just one person as normal by interchanging chapters from the point of view of each sister. In the past I have loved all her books and find her style very funny using comedy to support the main storyline. But this seems to be telling the tale of a farcical situation where one sister is trying to stop the younger sister consummate her marriage so that she can annull the wedding and marry the right person. There are several characters in play but I just couldn't warm to any of them. The sisters seemed hysterical and so did the groom who was having his wedding night scuppered so much and also the alleged right man trying to get his girl in the end. And there is a 3rd male character who is the best man who is also trying to prevent the wedding being consummated for business reasons and allies with the elder sister in more ways than one. And at the end it all sort of peters out with all the characters in the right places on a beach in the sunset.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite the best Jill Mansell book but a good read, 18 Mar 2013

I am new to Jill Mansell and have enjoyed several of her past books. This wasn't her best as the background detail of the storyline wasn't so detailed and so I wasn't that interested in the main female character. But it was still a good read and the story rollicked along well.
