3.0 out of 5 stars The Stonehenge of fireguards, 23 Dec 2013

Looks great in the photos, but in reality, is much smaller than similar guards you see in fireplace shops. Narrower than my firegrate and possibly not tall enough to catch spitting ash. The other bonus is that the pieces that hold the 3 screens together are loose, and the side screens tend to buckle between top and bottom. Maybe if you have a small fire.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly awesome, 21 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I already have a Google Nexus 7-inch thing, so am familiar with the Android architecture. I loved this machine though - so easy to set up, well balanced, looks the business, is very sturdy and quite fast in operation.

What else? Well, the sound is good, the battery life is long and the whole thing is relatively cheap and easy to customise.

In summary, a vastly capable tablet, what are you waiting for?

4.0 out of 5 stars Top notch, 6 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
As a rusty O level French speaker, I wanted to get back in the learning saddle, but if possible, in an interactive, fun way. This course has been excellent in providing that, from the pronunciation guidance, repetition of tricky bits, different learning approaches and clear progression along the way.

Getting started with this was easy, possibly lulling me into a false sense of my own abilities. There is a definite leap up as you go through though and it does take some work to keep up. Only shame was that it's purely computer based - would have been good to be able to practise in the car.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 25 Nov 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A very intuitive, sturdy and well designed labeller, this runs on 6 (count 'em!) batteries that you have to supply. I got it going without the instructions, so it's very easy to use and well thought through. The labels are white and print and cut easily. The text is entered and edited on-screen prior to print-out. There is a backlight in case you're working in the dark I guess. The unit is somewhat heavy and comes with one reel of black text on a white label.

All in all, a great product. As someone who doesn't do much labelling, I have to question the price of these things - seems a lot just to create something as humble as a label, but if you're going to buy one, this is excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy spotting, 11 Nov 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My five year old daughter loved this - for a few pages at least. You have to find things like wands and socks in the fantastically detailed drawings from Winnie's World. Downside is that some of these things are pretty tricky to find, the drawings never having been created with this purpose in mind. Also, as the owner of most Winnie books, I was disappointed that the pictures are all just lifted from the existing books. Still, anything that keeps them entertained eh?

The Personal Business Plan: A Blueprint for Running Your Life

3.0 out of 5 stars Structured navel gazing, 11 Nov 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
An interesting idea - conducting a personal audit using a business plan framework of SWOT analysis and other models. I found it a bit pat and not really that helpful. There were several exercises I completed that took time and yet didn't yield anything in the way of new insights. Maybe it's for people who aren't that self aware and don't actually know what job they enjoyed, have never stopped to think what their strengths and weaknesses might be and who need the structure, language and cross references of a business guide to do some of this stuff. In any event, none of this is necessarily time wasted and the topics and verbiage are pertinent, it just didn't really resonate for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says, 31 Oct 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
A very neat little way to extend a wireless network. You just connect it to your existing wireless router to set it up, then move it near the spot you need more wireless and hey presto, improved coverage.

I have used Powerline adapters before and these do provide a quicker and possibly more stable internet service, but the wires get in the way and limit movement. This device is a good compromise, easy to set up and use and therefore is thoroughly recommended.

Russell Hobbs 19144 Heritage Kettle -1.8 Litre - Metallic Graphite Grey
Russell Hobbs 19144 Heritage Kettle -1.8 Litre - Metallic Graphite Grey
Price: £28.74

2.0 out of 5 stars Style over substance, 17 Oct 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Great looking kettle - graphite, black and shiny bits, all very retro and good to look at.

But as a kettle? Not so great really. The water level is hard to read and doesn't react quickly, so it's hard to tell how much water is in the thing. Then the spout is right under the handle, which makes for compromised filling. It's slow to get going and takes longer than my bog standard model and finally, the handle gets very hot when you're pouring the water out, the boiling vapour hitting your hand.

Give it a miss!

How to Become a Successful Consultant in Your Own Field
How to Become a Successful Consultant in Your Own Field

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 11 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I worked for 20+ years in Finance, advising companies under the umbrella of the bank or consultancy I was employed by. When it came time to cut the umbilical cord and do it myself, I had little idea how to go about touting for work, what to charge, how to secure my first client, how to handle requests for contingency or discounted fees, what to do about difficult clients and how to avoid giving too much free advice to establish my credentials. I made just about every mistake you could possibly make and nearly concluded that I was just hopeless.

Then I read this book. It is simply revelatory. Bermont has faced all of the issues I faced and more. And yet he was able to set himself up successfully and his advice on how to go about this is convincing and easily adopted.

I can't recommend this book highly enough if you have experience in your field that you'd like to turn into consulting revenues. It may look like an old fashioned text book, but it's easily read, written from a first person perspective, funny in parts and deeply knowledgeable and dare I say empowering. Thanks Hubert!

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun but rubbish!, 10 Oct 2013

This review is from: Fly Gun
Shooting this thing is quite fun - and my kids love it. But it's so inaccurate, it's utterly useless at hitting flies. Mine hits somewhere left and below where targeted, but the degree of inaccuracy changes with each shot, so we're yet to hit a single fly, even when compensating for the useless aim.

Back to conventional fly swatters for me! Meanwhile, the kids have had some reasonably safe fun.
