Zyliss 5-Piece Knife Block Set, Black
Zyliss 5-Piece Knife Block Set, Black
Price: £139.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp, 21 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Amazingly versatile set. They feel solid and weighty (but not heavy) and so sharp that everything I have tried them on so far, they seem to cut through smoothly, effectively and with purpose. Most impressive of all so far is the bread knife. It's the most solid of it's type I have ever used, and so far better than my electric knife at getting straight and slim slices from any kind of loaf I've tried it on.

Very easy to clean, they wipe clean and shiny with just a couple of light passing over with sponge and washing up liquid and a quick rinse.

The angle at which they sit in the block is also very good, making it easy to remove or slide back in to their appropriate slot. I couldn't see immediately that there was a guide as to which one of the slots fits which knife, but with a couple of goes I found which one is correct for each knife. From top left they are bread, chef, carving knife. Next row is paring knife then the general purpose one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cloud accounting, 19 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The online edition of QuickBooks essentials, basically works like a subscription to web based application and you can access your data and reports, and input data and view it from multiple devices, so you can quickly install your account from the laptop or desktop using the web link provided in the welcome pack (basically the item you are buying and being reviewed here) and it takes you through a set up wizard asking the type of business you are running and based on that generates a look of your dashboard based on that information. You can customise it afterwards, but it is annoying that you can't progress without registering the information. In that respect I still prefer the desktop based software as opposed to online only, having said that the online version allows you to access your data and the dashboard and do so on the go via mobile of tablets running android or Apple OS. The look of the dashboard is the same whichever device you're using. Allows import export of account files, but I only managed to get it to work on laptop (can't do it on iPad)

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive, 19 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is the second type of self cleaning litter box I've tried for my cat, and like the first one ( the hooded sort from same manufacturer, which I have reviewed) he took to it quite easily. I decided to be a bit bolder and not follow instructions with this and put it on its own in a very different location to the other, and once the cat watched me assemble it, he then was eager to scrape around to get the feel for it. He didn't use it straight away, but two days later (after occasional inspection in those two days) he went to it and use it twice in succession.

The system is very clever, not only it detects when a cat has been in it also pauses the self clean countdown when your cat steps in again to use it, before the self clean routine from previous use. It restarts the countdown after the cat steps out and after 20 mins the rake cleans efficiently.

The counter, digital readout, isn't as detailed as the hooded version of this, but once you know how the system works, unless you prefer or need a hooded litter tray, this does the job (pardon the pun) nicely. The only reservation is that there isn't the option of changing the self clean delay, unlike the hooded one. So if you need a faster clean, you need to press the one off manual clean.

The blue crystals aren't as smell free as I expected for the listed price of the litter refill, but it is impressive in drying; I use a vanilla scented litter box spray as I have done for some time with previous non automatic units.

3.0 out of 5 stars Buzzy, 16 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
These light bulbs used to be very expensive, but seem to be getting cheaper. But I think the quality of the casing in this unit is also cheaper as a result. I think that explains the buzzing sound that it produces when it's first switched on and continues to buzz even when at full power (undimmed) which is annoying unless you have other background noise around to mask it.

The light it produces is bright and has a warm glow

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious for cats, 14 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I don't know what makes these so delicious to cats, but mine absolutely loves lick-e-lix which I'd never gave him before because the description of a fluid meaty snack didn't sound appealing, but obviously felines love of protein in all forms and the texture of these treats must be an irresistible combination for them. I will definitely buy a multi pack (I received just a single box of 5 individual snacks for the review)

3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok, 14 Oct 2014

This review is from: Her [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Yes I liked the movie, but it's not one I would go back to any time soon. So I wish I'd just waited for it to turn up on one of the subscription on-demand tv services (Netflix, Amazon prime Instant video etc) rather than buy the bluray. The movie is more about the main character's difficulty in committing to new relationship but somehow finding himself drawn into relating to an operating system he buys on impulse whilst walking through a shopping mall. The connection seems immediate but never really believable, although there are done very sweet moments mainly on his part. There are some near futuristic aspects to the film, but really that's just to allow some believability in what takes place; I mostly found it cute rather than moving or revelatory despite some philosophical aspects, but that's about it.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing, 11 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I anticipated it might be impressive, given the expectation from Bose as a brand and previous experience of having had a sound system from them. At the price you would expect similar quality to a good Sony sound bar. But disappointingly it really is just an enhancement to your tv speakers, if your tv speakers are poor quality. If you already have a decent sound from your HDTV or have a soundbar, you won't get much difference and in fact not as good as a £200 sony sound bar I used to test it side by side. The high frequency end of the Bose is crisp, and if you turn the bass boost right to maximum you also get very good bass, but it's the midrange that lets it down and for that reason it sounds a bit tinny but with a punch in the lower end, and not much depth in the middle.

On the plus side, other than the good bass, is the fact that they do include optical, coax digital, and stereo cables. The first two are rarely included in AV sound systems as they're not cheap. Also the big chunky remote supplied is a universal remote so if you don't already have one, it's a bonus. The list of brands it covers for all in one control is quite extensive. Even has makes I have never heard of before. You get a code book for entering the brands of TV, Cable/satellite/DVR, DVD, Aux, Game consoles.

The size of the sound unit is large in surface area. It covers nearly all of the multi shelf glass TV stand unit. I have a 40in Samsung TV which comfortably sat with its base on the Bose without any overhang.

2.0 out of 5 stars Shameless plug, 11 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This seems to be a companion book to items of craft, ink etc of a particular brand and therefore the book description as something that helps using every day items from home is very misleading. Basically its a shameless plug for a brand and you have to pay for the privilege of reading the advertisement. The print designs are ok and for that it's two stars rather than 1

PetSafe ScoopFree Replacement Crystal Litter Tray, Blue, Pack of 3
PetSafe ScoopFree Replacement Crystal Litter Tray, Blue, Pack of 3

4.0 out of 5 stars Pricey but worth it for some cats, 11 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
As refill packs, if they last a month then even though they are on the pricey end of cat litter, the convenience is what you're paying for. I expect they will become cheaper when more people start buying units or if there is competition

The refills slot in easily and using them, assuming you have the self cleaning litter box they're meant for, is a breeze. Before these I bought "world best cat litter" brand which cost me £14 per month, so for me these trays are only slightly more expensive on a monthly basis and they don't require constant cleaning. The odour reduction is good compared to normal cat litter (such as the one I mentioned).

PetSafe ScoopFree Ultra Self-Cleaning Litter Box

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for the gadget loving cat parent, 11 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I didn't expect to be able to review this for a while because I assumed my cat would be wary of it at first and take a while to start using it, but actually after a day of inspecting it suspiciously and having watched me assemble it and test the electronics and rake mechanism, he has used it three times already. (I followed the instruction booklet recommendations for getting cat to use the new unit)

First, after about 4 hours from installing it next to his main litter box, he was inspecting it and walking in and out and scraping around to get the feel of the crystals. You need to watch this part because it sets off the countdown to self clean mode, so switch it off.

Then, I switched it on, and overnight I heard him scrape around again, but wasn't sure if it was the new or old litter box. So in the morning I looked at the counter, and sure enough the usage counter had ticked up. There was nothing in the waste compartment though, so I took one of his favourite playthings (a clean cotton ear-bud swab stick) and threw it to the back of the new litter box, and he followed it in to grab it. Then scraped around again, brought the swab out played with it. And a few minutes later he went back into the litter box and ... Well he used it properly. Success, he's been in again twice.

Now about the size of it, the box itself is about the size of the XXL litter box I normally have for my cat (he's a big lad not pure bread, but fluffy Siberian, or Maine Coone equivalent size). But the usable space inside is about 75% of the available surface area because the other quarter is beneath the waste compartment lid. However there seems to be enough space for him to climb over the enclosed waste part (at the front) and settle with enough space to move to the side and use it comfortably and have space to scrape and cover. After he leaves the box, the countdown to the autoclean starts up. It must be a motion detector as opposed to an odour detector because the countdown goes off even when he just scraped but didn't use it.

The blue crystals are very absorbent, and the smell is masked after about 10 minutes or so of the cat covering his business, and more or less eliminated after the automatic raking takes place and moves the stuff into the waste compartment.

The one thing that stops me giving 5 stars is the length of the power cable. It's about a metre which is ok if where you want to keep the litter box is near a power point, or reachable with extension; but any modern bathrooms don't have electricity sockets for good reason, and if you are like me and keep the litter boxes in bathrooms where it is best (keep smells out from rest of the home) unless you have a utility room or big house to keep a room for your cat :) then you might find it difficult to house this unit. Fortunately one of my two bathrooms has a socket just outside the door with enough reach for the power adapter to be plugged outside the bathroom and reach around to the litter box inside, but well away from the sink or other source of water.

Apparently for one cat, the disposable litter section lasts about a month, so I will come back to report how that goes.
