5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful classic, 16 May 2014

This is a beautiful classic which both my children are really enjoying bedtime. The language and descriptions sometimes complicated so for that reason I wouldn't recommend this book for the under eights. Children are older than this will be charmed by it however

This was one of the cheapest Christmas presents the kids got this year and yet, the play was nonstop. They are bright and powerful and we've been shining beams on low clouds and trees over a mile away. Astonishing!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but distinctly different from previous Paddington books, 15 Feb 2014

Another excellent paddington book that my kids love. ... A little odd that it's very 21st century unlike the others which are decidedly "last millennium", having a quaint but elegant turn of phrase. This book is strangely more direct. Good though.

Paddington Marches On

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant., 17 Sep 2013
My kids are 9 and 7 and after overdosing on the complexities of Harry Potter it's a complete delight to read them the simple, pleasures told in the world of Paddington Bear. Each new chapter has a new story and it takes about 20 minutes to read a chapter. It is the perfect bedtime story book because everything ends well each evening. No more nightmares about Voldemort. The kids are dropping off to sleep with images of Paddington covered in marmalade or getting into a fix, and its lovely to hear them giggling at the slapstick humour. I'm going to read them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is just what it said on the packet, 22 Jun 2013

This Copper II Pentahydrate had just the right amount of copper and sulphate ions and while we're on that subject, the sulphur with it's four oxygen atoms, were just right too. I'm really delighted with this product because it is 500 whole grams of exactly what I asked for.

Platypus SoftBottle with Closure Cap (Grey White, 1L)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product but more included elsewhere, 4 Mar 2013
This is a nifty solution for not carrying a bulky waterbottle to the gym. It packs up small and light which is ideal for my backpack. One gripe though, I've seen this product sold elsewhere for the same price or a little less but including the special lids. So.... A little too expensive on this site.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value!, 28 Nov 2012

These iPhone screens do exactly what you'd expect which is create a nearly invisible layer over the front and back of your phone to protect it against scratches and the like. The bonus is that you get five sets of screens which is great for the money compared to the cost of these on the high street. A good buy!

Collins CWC9 Colplan 2013 Year Wall Planner
Collins CWC9 Colplan 2013 Year Wall Planner

4.0 out of 5 stars An OK wall planner, 28 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This wall planner has a nice glossy finish and can be wiped clean however I didn't give it 5 stars because the paper it was printed on was a little less robust than previous planners I have used, as in lower gsm. I would have preferred it made of slightly heavier grade paper but overall it's really not bad for the money.

I bought these eight weeks ago and though they were a bit unclear in the bass range they were not bad for cheap headphones. I would have excused them if they'd lasted a year or two... but eight weeks? Rubbish. These are cheap tat and not worth the money.

Escape the Diet Trap
Escape the Diet Trap

4.0 out of 5 stars That's how you do it!!, 6 April 2012

This review is from: Escape the Diet Trap (Paperback)
This book is an object lesson on how to write a popular science book. Dr Brifa explains some relatively complex health and nutritional science in a clear and comprehensive way and that is just what this topic needs. Imagine just taking it on faith that cholesterol doesn't matter? that the low cal - low fat - high carb mantra, that is still being sold to us, is actually making us fat and unwell? These are controversial subjects and they have been covered by other pop-sci books such as those "paleolithtic style" diets or a couple of the "cholesterol myth busting" style books and most notably by Leslie Kenton in her book about syndrome X / metabolic syndrome. However unlike nearly everything I've previously read, this book is fully referenced and does not hide behind journalistic chit-chat. It's just the hard facts presented with nothing to hide. On reading this book, unlike so many others, I was left with no doubts about Dr Briffa's scientific and clinical credibility. Moreover, he systematically addresses every question a doubter may have when making what amounts to a fairly radical departure from a "normal" diet. He says that this is not a diet book and that's true up to a point; it is not a guide book on how to do a short term episode of calorie restriction. However it is a book about permanently changing our diet to eliminate or restrict those foods that he so clearly shows are keeping us fat, lethargic and ultimately sick. The reasons to do this are now abundantly clear and reliable. The method of how to do this is not quite so thorough as the author is certainly not a chef. For this reason I've only given the book 4 stars. Buy this and a good "low carb / low GI recipe book as well.
