5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap way to get shallow depth of field, 26 Sep 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
You get what you pay for... this is far from a pro lens but when used correctly the images produced are as sharp as any of the EF-S kit lenses I own.

Of course if you're buying this lens it's because of the low light and/or shallow depth of field capability and for the hobbyist it fulfils these roles very well.

Nice and light to carry about and cheap enough not to stress too much if it gets damaged.

Since I doubt you are using this on your Canon 5D, be aware that on a cropped frame sensor this lens equates to an 80mm focal length. You may want to look at the more expensive 28mm or 35mm primes if indoor party photography or architecture/landscapes are your thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value - even at a higher price, 26 Sep 2011

Not much to fault with this really...

Keyboard and trackpad work as expected, power brick is very compact, screen nice and clear/bright.

Processor is up to most office and web browsing tasks. XBMC runs well and 1080p video files play flawlessly even when streamed over wireless.

HDMI out is a bonus and the speakers are about as good as you can expect on a laptop this size/price.

Fan is quiet and so far heat has not been an issue.

If I ever feel it needs a boost, a small SSD and extra RAM will extend it's useful life by a few years.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I found you, 26 Sep 2011

My first one purchased at a golf store was stolen. I was so happy to find the same model available on Amazon. Good quality feel and subtle graphics make this a great brolly for the businessman or golfer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Convenient, quiet and adequate power, 26 Sep 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
We bought this to always have a vacuum handy in the kitchen/living area. For that purpose it is much better than a regular dust-buster because you can vacuum large floor areas easily. The unit and charger are very compact and well designed. I'm not crazy about the orange and white colour - grey/black would have been more subtle for something always on display.

I like:

Easy to assemble
Easy to use - swivelling head makes it easy to negotiate furniture legs
Fairly quiet
Powerful enough to pick up crumbs/wife's long hair
Battery lasts long enough to clean our flat - laminate and carpet
Handy to be able to use the dutbuster piece on its own
Quick release to empty the dirt container

I wish:

If it came with a wider tool for vacuuming stair carpets I would have given it 5 stars. The supplied brush is a very small diameter suitable only for base boards etc.

Of course bagless means you occasionally have to get your hands dirty to give the filters a good clean.

If the battery could be replaced (as it can on US models apparently) I think it would last years. According to the manual, running flat and charging for 24 hours once a month will keep the battery in good condition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay for the price paid, 17 Jun 2011
Since I paid about halk of what Amazon are charging, I'm not too bothered by the downsides which are...

The vertical viewing angle is quite narrow and is best when you are eye level with the screen or slightly below.
To test the consistency of the inside/outside sensors, I have them placed next to eachother. There is a discrepancy of between 1 and 4 degrees!

Otherwise it's pretty good as a photo frame, calendar, alarm clock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great all-in-one at the price, 14 Jun 2011

I got this like-new-second-hand from Amazon's warehouse. Saved about 200. The touchscreen had dead spots and places where it was very inaccurate. I'm guessing this is why it was returned and resold cheaper. Anyway after a quick google, an article suggested cleaning the screen (esp. the top corners). That fixed it. Must be the way optical touch screens work.

The PC itself is plenty fast enough (Dual Core 2.8) and has plenty of HDD storage (1TB) and RAM (4GB). The 24" 1080p screen is beautiful and the dual touch touchscreen works very well.

Keyboard is functional but the mouse is a bit small and basic. I'm using my full size wired mouse instead.

Sound is pretty good but not very loud. The dynamic range is pretty good and bass is very clear.

There is an external power brick but it's not that big considering the PC it is powering.

By default Intel Speedstep is disabled (in the BIOS). I have enabled it and changed the Windows 7 Performance profile to Balanced. This allows the PC to run cooler and the already quiet fan to run slower.

Included ASUS software is pretty good. Eee Paint is fun for my little guy to play with and Eee Cinema is good for navigating your media with the touchscreen. Media Center also works pretty well with touchscreen.

The stand is pretty basic but I'm looking at replacing it with a VESA desk mount (Ergotron MX). VESA mount is 100x100 type.

My model doesn't have the HDMI and VGA in so make sure to check the model if this is important to you. There are 3 USB 2.0 on back and 2 on the side. There's also headphone and microphone on the side and an SD/MMC card reader. 10/100/1000 LAN is on the back too.

The built in microphone seems to work okay in Skype as does the builtin webcam.

The DVD drive is a tray style which will be a bit fiddly but hardly ever used anyway.

Had no trouble connecting over Wifi.

All in all I'm very happy with it especially at the price I paid.

Logitech Harmony One UK - Advanced Universal Remote Control

2.0 out of 5 stars Better ergonomics but software and performance disappoint, 26 Mar 2009
Although the buttons are arranged logically and the construction is very good, unlike previous Harmony remotes, the PC software is unintuitive and limiting.

If that were all that were wrong I'd still give it 5 stars, but...

The delay experienced when pressing keys is unacceptable. This is especially noticable when repeatedly pressing a button - navigating menus, changing volume, etc.

There are many posts on avforums, remotecentral and logitech's own forums. Logitech refuse to provide a fix or even acknowledge the problem and more and more Harmony One owners are swearing off Logitech products because of this.

Such a shame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for peace of mind, 3 Jan 2009

The under mattress sensor is very sensitive to movement but never registers ambient noise as a movement. So far we've had no false alarms and more importantly false positives are very imrpobable!

Easy to set up. Just plug in and you're away.

The baby and parent units optionally (but recommended) take AAA batteries (7 in total). Either unit will switch to battery automatically if there is an interruption to your AC power supply. The parent unit will switch automatically to batteries if removed from the cradle. Note that rechargeable batteries won't be recharged in either unit but can be used.

A green light flashes every few seconds as long as movement (breathing) are detected meaning you don't have to get out of bed to check on baby if he is silent. If no movement is detected for 20 seconds an alarm sounds.

There is also a dimmable nightlight on the parent unit. This is a great feature which really rounds off a well designed and well implemented product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential (if you don't want a smelly house), 3 Jan 2009
This is a very convenient bin for keeping used nappies wrapped up in your nursery or wherever you change baby. Using a regular bin means taking them to the kitchen and or having them stink up the house. Replacing the cartridge is a doddle.

Having been out of OLAP since SQL 7, I needed a way to get up to speed with all the new features in SSAS 2005. This book is perfect. I am yet to have a question unanswered by this book.
