1.0 out of 5 stars Lifestyle product - poor audio quality., 13 Jun. 2014
Overblown woolly bass, brittle treble. Bluetooth volume significantly lower than when plugged in via 3.5 mm socket.

A very poorly conceived product overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern guitar heroes eat your heart out!, 9 Jun. 2012

Simply superb. Statesboro' Blues and Searching the Desert for the Blues are among my favourite ever songs. Blind Willie Mctell was so talented it almost defies belief.
Buy this and give it the time it deserves.

2.0 out of 5 stars Murky production & so so songs, 16 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Bon Iver, Bon Iver (Audio CD)
I was blown away by his first outing but I have to say that I'm very disappointed with this second offering. The production is very poor indeed frankly. There is barely any top-end at all & the album as a whole suffers from a crowded feel. The first was beautiful in its sparseness but this has far too much going on & sounds really murky. It's like someone bought him a few effects pedals for his birthday & he felt obliged to use them throughout. Is that constant recurring delay/reverb really necessary? I think it's there to disguise some pretty weak piano playing. There are one or two hooks but no real songs. Hoping for better from his third album.

2.0 out of 5 stars Works well but design is flawed, 13 Oct. 2010
Bought this & have used it successfully for recording. My main gripe with it is that the design doesn't take into account the forces of gravity. The weight of it isn't balanced so it has a tendency to tip over. Not what you want when your favourite valve mic is attached to it. There is a fix if you modify the assembly instructions and this detailed in Sound on Sound. However, for the money it should be right in the first place. I've not tried their competitors' products but if you do buy this be very careful with it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't mention the war, 29 Mar. 2010
This review is from: Coco Before Chanel [DVD] (DVD)
"I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it." Basil Fawlty's absurd outburst is rather apt when juxtaposed against the mountainous superficiality of this celebration of one of France's 'great' women. Talk about a sanitised version of history! All style & no substance & bien sur, a wonderful underwriting of history in regard to Coco, an apt name for a clown or, in any other context, a suitable prefix for nut. Indeed, Coco spent the majority of WWII tucked up with a Nazi officer in the Paris Ritz. Hans Gunther von Dincklage looked after her for sure & then she fled into exile to Switzerland with him at the end of the war. Previously she'd flown to Berlin with Hitler's chief of foreign intelligence, Walter Schellenberg to meet the great man himself - no doubt she would claim that she was working for the resistance! The other rather insidious omission was her vile attempt to gain control of a Jewish owned perfume business by using pro-Aryan laws. In fact, she was arrested for war crimes at one point but then was mysteriously released. 'Coco avant Chanel' is a tedious film that selectively denigrates the truth by skirting around the period in favour of a paper thin plot which portrays 'Coco' as a ditsy Amelie type character who was breaking corsets, and hence boundaries. I watched it by mistake, regretted it & would advise others to learn from my rampant foolhardiness.

A bit dull this! There is some interesting footage but the narration is poor & lacking in any real detail.

1.0 out of 5 stars Design fault causes cable to break!, 18 April 2009
This is really one to avoid! The cable is so weak it breaks! The storage box exacerbates the problem as it effectively folds the cable over causing the plastic to crack. I've had 2 of these replaced now. Apple's suggested solution was to put a bit of tape around it. I'm not sure that's the kind of answer I will ever accept!

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy this if you enjoy being burnt, 18 Mar. 2009
The main problem with this product is that it splashes boiling water all over the place. Call me old-fashioned but skin is not really meant to be in contact with boiling water. Perhaps they should supply heat proofed gloves with it.

2.0 out of 5 stars A missed opportunity, 17 Mar. 2009

Text is too small & there are a few factual inaccuracies - such as Mao dying in 1979 (it was in 1976). Some of the maps are not always clear. Still waiting for a good historical atlas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb for classroom use, 17 Mar. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is one of the first textbooks that I can honestly use without too much modification in class. The information is clearly laid out & there are some innovative tasks for students to engage with the concepts & ideas. This book is so well written as it presents complex issues in a very simple fashion. For that the authors should be applauded!
