Serbian Fairy Tales: 1 (Myth & Legend)
Serbian Fairy Tales: 1 (Myth & Legend)
by Jelena Curcic
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb stories for kids and adults alike, 30 Oct. 2014
Astonished this lovely book isn't in stock, or more widely known - I bought a copy at the launch and I have to say it is a gorgeous object, an absolute bargain at (IIRC) £8.99. It's packed with beautifully translated traditional stories featuring fierce dragons, cunning maidens and other more unusual fairytale fare, and each story is illustrated with at least one exquisite drawing by Rosanna Morris. It's a great book for adults and kids alike and makes a fascinating change from the better-known works of the brothers Grimm. There's more info here: http://www.serbianfairytales.com/book

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the trick, 21 Oct. 2014
The metal bit feels a little too big for the charging slot so it has to be forced in (ooer) - but it does the job at a tenth of Apple's price

5.0 out of 5 stars Satire with style, bite and laughs, 21 Oct. 2014
Funny, sweary, surreal and satirical, these stories are far from stupid (though the characters in them often are). The best ones feature Lavender Bunny and his owner/dupe/patsy Mike, and their car crash career in the world of reality TV, from Big Brother via Come Dine With Me to hell itself.

But all of the stories are good: the piss has never been so comprehensively ripped out of celebrities ranging from Danny Dyer to Gordon Ramsay (via Pete Doherty, Jodie Marsh, Sarah Palin, Prince Harry, Matt Smith and John Prescott), but subjects other than hollow fame are also tackled. The non-celeb pieces feature a self-destructive punk band, a deported elephant, a psychotic estate agent and an investment banker haunted by his mafioso alter ego "Mr Funny".

Bum Fodder
Bum Fodder
by Richard Smyth
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £8.96

5.0 out of 5 stars Soft, strong and entertainingly short, 10 July 2014
This review is from: Bum Fodder (Hardcover)
This is fun, fluffy (pardon the pun) and surprisingly interesting. Richard Smyth delves exhaustively and entertainingly into the history, sociology, science and even literature of loo paper. Just imagine what he could do with a less disposable subject ...

CHILDREN PLAYING BEFORE A STATUE OF HERCULES [Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules ] BY Sedaris, David(Author)Paperback 29-Mar-2005
CHILDREN PLAYING BEFORE A STATUE OF HERCULES [Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules ] BY Sedaris, David(Author)Paperback 29-Mar-2005
by David Sedaris
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent anthology, wide-ranging & well-curated, 27 Mar. 2014
David Sedaris is the editor and writes the introduction of this anthology of (mostly recent) short stories by mostly American authors including Lorrie Moore, Tobias Wolff and Amy Hempel. Really readable, varied and moving, especially Wolff's Bullet in the Brain and Hempel's In the Cemetery where Al Jolson is Buried.

4.0 out of 5 stars More about police detectives than PIs, 27 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Useful and informative with plenty of visuals, like all the Shire series, but I would have loved a little more information about private detectives and detective agencies which sprang up at this time as well as about police detectives.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great, cute and portable, 27 Mar. 2014

These worked very easily straight out of the box and give a decent volume too. I use them for background music at literary nights and the only problem comes when your phone is a bit too far away and they can cut out for a few seconds.
