4.0 out of 5 stars In the absence of a brand new album..., 13 Nov. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The album originally is extraordinary with only a very few weak spots. It has been one of my favorites since the release. It is debatable how much the alternative version adds, some of the versions seem slightly unfinished. But it is interesting to hear the band play what can best be described as cover versions of their own songs. And since we unfortunately can not expect any new material any longer it certainly fulfills a need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - but very large, 17 Oct. 2015

I usually fit a 9.5UK. Far too large. Particularly unfortunate since it cost me appx. 40€ to return it. Luckily I got the last pair in 9.0 since the boot itself is fantastic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent film. Gives a good picture of Germany before ..., 13 Oct. 2015

This review is from: Wunder von Bern, Das (Blu-ray)
Excellent film. Gives a good picture of Germany before the "Wirtschaftswunder" in the year 1954 with the traumas of WW2 still looming in a country that tries to rebuilt a national identity. Seen through the eyes of a boy we get the story of the first german Soccer World Cup victory mixed with a parallel story that underlines the immense impact it had for the country. Well told and not too sentimental.

5.0 out of 5 stars filled with great trivia, fun and magic, 16 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A warning first: I am utterly biased. This was MY team when I was a teenager and in my early twenties. Reading the book I almost relived the sensation of the '86 World Cup. What a summer - and what remarkable years. And what a team.
The story about the reawakening of danish football is well told, filled with great trivia, fun and magic. It has a suitable length and does not loose itself in too many details. An almost perfect book about the joy of soccer.
The book itself deserves at least 4 stars, the last one goes to the danish side. Let joy and innocence prevail!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant sound made even better., 6 April 2014

Remastering seems to work some times. Making the sound quality of one my favorites almost perfect and revealing that quite a few CDs from the 80's unfortunately are with a poorer sound quality than can be achieved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let joy and innocence prevail., 30 Jan. 2013

This review is from: Toys [1992] [DVD] [1993] (DVD)
Just as the headline is a title from the soundtrack it sums up the core of the film. It is a film full of visual ingenuity, absurd humor and visual and lingual references. You will not miss intellectual challenges along with the spoofs and silliness. However, first of all it is made to nurse the child that hopefully still lives inside most of us bored adults. Robin Williams can be far too much, but in this film his talent glows. Enjoy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly antiquated with no doubt...., 20 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
...but not without value.
I have not seen the film for nearly thirty years - and probably would not have bought it if it was not for the sequel "Tron - Legacy". I (re)watched it with my children who mainly found it interesting to see how far CGI has come in comparison to the crudeness of the original. However, good ideas never die, and my oldest daughter in particular found pleasure in all the parallels between the two films. Tron lives - reasonably well - for more than nostalgic reasons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ever had any doubt about the value of remastering?, 23 Jun. 2011

I had, at least to a certain extent, until I bought this remastered edition. The album itself is one of my absolute favourites, if you should in any way consider discovering Bryan Ferry this is a must. If you are a fan and want to enjoy the excessively well-produced music without the original technical limitations don't hesitate to buy it. I will probably have to exchange most of my BF and Roxy albums now, so if you are not willing to do that, then hesitate......

4.0 out of 5 stars Moonlight lush life...., 12 Jun. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A purchase I feared would disappoint me. It most definitely did not.
Back in '88 I went to one of the concerts on the BÍte Noire Tour and was wonderfully surprised to see a mixture between typical Ferryesque coolness and a tight, funky band delivering memorable versions of both new and old songs in a fine selection. It still works and is not at all antiquated or corny. You might, however, find the lead guitarist's hairdo a bit of a comic relief - I think it was so too even then.
The second part of the DVD is a more recent concert from '02. I saw Ferry on this tour as well, and found him and the band seemingly tired. A pity since it followed a rather inspired album, Frantic. Unfortunately the concert does not comprise any of these new songs and no absolutely necessary versions of older ones either. It is therefore more a collector's item. Watch the concert from The Grand Rex in Paris two years before instead, it is a treat.
