5.0 out of 5 stars God Bless Amazon!, 9 Jun. 2009
just received this and was utterly staggered to find it was one of the Mike Oldfield-signed editions limited to 500 copies!!! WOW. can't guarantee who will or won't get a signed one though so keep that in mind

beautifully packaged, lavish hardback book and some nice facsimile items all housed in the gatefold sleeve of the vinyl album.

and i haven't even listened to it yet! lol

but it IS Tubular Bells so i'm safe there. ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars re: 'problem with disc', 27 Oct. 2008
the jarring transition from one scene to the next mentioned in the previous review is a flaw on the film itself and not the disc. it's always been there. hope that helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars STILL incomplete|!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,, 30 Nov. 2007
5 stars for the music. not for this claiming to be complete. i agree with the previous review (except i'm not one of the many people who insist the New American Orchestra vesrion is rubbish as it clearly isn't - Memories of Green as performed by the late great Richard Tee is particularly stunning as is the authentic noir of Blade Runner Blues), but i digress....

this release has performed the amazing task of omitting ALL FOUR pieces of music i wanted it to have:
the 'Do you like our owl' music
the Arabic, rhythmic animal market music
the 'Pris with the boiling egg' music
the very noirish 'Deckard arriving at the Bradbury Building' music complete with 'meowwing' sounds.

what is going on?!!! has Vangelis eaten these tracks or is he just sitting on them? either way we're clearly never going to see them again.

5.0 out of 5 stars UTTER MASTERPIECE WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME, 18 July 2007
what in heaven's name is "grahamapplin129" talking about in his review?!!!
how can a dvd that features the superbly remastered version of the film, loads of deleted scenes, loads of lost footage, THREE documentaries, trailers and even a bonus film be considered unspecial and vanilla?
what did he want - a life-size Robby the Robot?!!!

everyone else here has said it for me. quite staggeringly brilliant film with imagination and effects way ahead of its time. puts most modern (past ten years) sci-fi movies to shame.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Master in One Handy Box, 19 Sept. 2001
Want to see exactly how to make 'quality movies'? Kubrick has proved his worth over and over again with classics such as 2001: a space odyssey (the definitive science fiction film), The Shining (perhaps the only true horror EPIC, taking a fabulous if fairly pedestrian horror story and spinning it into an assault on the senses), Dr. Stangelove (black comedy at it's finest), A Clockwork Orange (the stuff that cults are made of) and Full Metal Jacket (the only flaw being that it's not long enough!).
This set includes all his movies from Lolita onwards plus a bonus disc with a superb documentary which does exactly what it should do: make you want to rush off and watch the films again!
There are only two flaws in this set. One is the lack of extras. True, The Making of The Shining is superb, but where is the Arthur C. Clarke press conference included on the previous region 1 release of 2001? The other flaw is that the final three films (The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut) are presented in full screen at the request of Kubrick himself. However, this might not be so bad if we presume that the 35mm frames were opened up, in which case you can just view these films on a widescreen TV with the top and bottom of the image cut off and still get the true widescreen picture.
All in all, Kubrick was not exactly prolific, with only 12 films to his name but, as we all know, it's not size that matters!
Gone but never to be forgotten. SK R.I.P.!
