a great journey into the minds of game designers, 26 July 2013
my recommendation is mostly for any artist looking to get into the game industry.
the book portrays a rich world, with many distinct environments that work coherently together as different parts of the same island.
while the art illustrates the appearance of the game's environment it also conveys a lot of emotion, which (i believe) really helped with the design of the game's cinematic.
other than Lara and some of the villains, the characters are pretty plain, both in design and character, but I guess they're designed as much as their role requires.
item design is also a great feature as it shows several weapons, each with its own set of upgrades, which stay unique even as the weapon level rises.
the book is also filled with commentary that wraps the whole process together, and gets you to think of what is needed to succeed in creating such a unique look.
