After almost 8 years I returned to thus for a bit of nostalgia - and I wasn't dissapointed. They don't make games like this any more which is a shame. It is such an emersion experience playing half life you almost feel like you are living inside the game!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as Good as the first one, 20 July 2010
GOW2 is slightly dissapointing although it is still a good game. It is not as involving as the first GOW, so for those seasoned gamers it may not live up to expectations. The gameplay and controls are fine, and so is the pace, but there are less challenging enemies and at the normal level of difficulty quite easy to beat. The online multi-player options are average, no maps so it is easy to get disoriented.

On balance worth buying, but don't expect too much

5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Game, 9 Nov. 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Fallout 3 (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
You have to play this game to appreciate its perfection. I have been playing games for years and reluctantly bought this game because I had seen so many favorable reviews. A few weeks later, I must say this game is better than GTA or Half-Life. It has everything!

Only 2 notes of criticism - Bethesda need to improve the dialogue sequences - they do get a bit monotonous. And the 'new' targeting system is fine, although I think it does make the game a little easy!

Advice - Do the Main Quest first and stop just before the finale to tackle the miscellaneous quests or to explore the Capital Wasteland at your leisure. This gives you a huge advantage with stronger skill levels and XP Points. You also get the chance to release an almost invincible Mutant who can become you friend and help you defeat the other enemies throughout the game. Terrific!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Comprehensive Guide to Fallout, 9 Nov. 2009
Most Bethesda games I have played - e.g. Oblivion tend to be difficult to comprehend simply because of the size of their worlds and the fact that you can start from and go any where. This guide makes the game much more manageable and gives you the skills you need to beat the game.

The Guide shows you how to do this - terrific!!!

Tricks of the 3D Game Programming Gurus: Advanced 3D Graphics and Rasterization (Other Sams)
Tricks of the 3D Game Programming Gurus: Advanced 3D Graphics and Rasterization (Other Sams)
by Andre LaMothe
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Best for 3D Game Programming, 8 Jun. 2004
This is a must have for anyone wanting to learn 3D Game Programming with DirectX. However, as with all great books you need to do some work - and I would advise that you read the first "Tricks..." book first. When I started using this book it was hard going - I have no experience in Game Programming - but when I went through the first book and followed each example at a steady pace, including trying out the code I found the second book became easier when I returned to it.
This book is well written, and LaMothe clearly wants you to learn the inner concepts of Game Programming rather than just giving you a 3D engine. He clearly enjoys the subject - sometimes going over the top - but once you learn to find the important bits, you will be surprised how much you have learn't from him.
In many cases he gives you 2 or more ways of doing things - for example using 8 or 16 bit, manual or matrix calculations and Euler or UVN Camera. My advice is stick to one method to the end of the book and then come back and update with the alternative.
A great book...After reading it you can probably develop the next Quake or Half-Life engine easily...
