5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, 16 Feb 2012
Having received this and the John Lennon Box, all I can do is thouroughly recommend both. Sturdy, well made and conceived, both boxes are works of art and are ideal additions to a Beatles/Lennon fans collection

Getting my DE luxe version quite late last week, I was unable to watch the 2 DVD set and pass comments. Almost 1 week later and I've sat through both DVDs and the 'extra/bonus' DVD and can now pass my own personal comment on the work... I enjoyed the film, there are plenty of new pieces included which help to show light on George's life. The first DVD centred around George and The Beatles - a bit TOO much in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, The Beatles were an important part of George's life... but only for a few years from the early '60s to 1970. George had many more interests and for me, those would have been more important to discover. His work with APPLE acts was something which was not dwelt on for long - although I was pleased to see a photo of Jackie Lomax included in the film. George worked so hard with Doris Troy, Jackie, Billy Preston and the RK Temple but really the film didn't seem to give his work justice. A mention of 'King of Fuh ' was welcome - but then no explaination as to what it WAS! (Apple 8 banned single by Brute Force, if you didn't know). Little or no mention of 'Dark Horse Records' signees such as 'Splinter' and the other acts in the 'Dark Horse' stable (excuse the pun...) - it WAS good to see something of the 'Dark Horse Tour... a DVD to come soon, I hope? HANDMADE FILMS had 20 releases, some of which were seen as classics - others such as 'Shanghai Suprise' wer'n't of course, but surely they deserved some merit? I was touched by the friends sharing their memories of George, intrigued at the inclusion of sanskrit chants in the body of George's McLaren (I'd been told of them when visiting Bhativeda Manor, but never seen them before) and fascinated by views of Friar Park and its grounds.... which were all too brief. Nice jokey stuff from George sometimes (his 'interview ' with Damon Hill for example). On the whole, I found the film to be good... but agree with a friend who said that the film should have been made by a 'fan' of George. Good - certainly... GREAT? - no. I think that George deserved something... more....

This review is from: Apple Box Set (Audio CD)
As a collector of Apple records since 1968 I welcome this box set but, as mentioned by others, there are many omissions. That leads me to think that IF this collection sells well, a further collection MAY be made available. As I'm one of few who own the complete Apple 45 catalogue, others wanting to hear the 'ones that got away', (and exclusive interviews with APPLE acts) can hear the tracks on my Radio Show - BeatlesandBeyond

5.0 out of 5 stars Lomax CD is worth buying!, 16 May 2009
Jackie sent me an early copy of this release and it became a favourite of mine and the listeners to my BeatlesandBeyond Radio Show

In an letter, Jackie told me that his style was not what I may be used to (after the Apple songs) - but this blend of Blues/Rock/Country is a winner and anyone who enjoys GOOD music should love this collection

The 2 bonus tracks are a live version of 'Sour Milk Sea' and Jackie's tribute song to George Harrison - 'Friend a Mine'

Jackie was a house guest some years ago, and is a not only a remarkable singer/songwriter but also a gentleman - please buy this CD and love it as many others do

The Apple Records part of this book was written by Pete Dicks - now presenter of the BeatlesandBeyond Radio show, and mentioned in The White Book by former US Apple Records Manager, Ken Mansfield.

The Apple section was favourably mentioned by none other than GOLDMINE Magazine as being of greatest use.
