4.0 out of 5 stars Good story with a predictable ending, 23 April 2013

'Jimmy's Game' tells the tale of London's less savory characters in a gripping tale.

The story itself is excellent but the punctuation leaves quite a lot to be desired especially during character conversations that seem to be jumbled together.

That aside the story is a hard hitting no holds barred roller coaster ride that spares no gory detail in the violence or sex it portrays.

The characters are well written and complex but sadly the ending is a little to 'convenient' for my liking and it does take away slightly from what could have been a fantastic book.

This review is from: Rise & Walk (Kindle Edition)
Rise & Walk tells the tale of zombies, damsels in distress & two heroic guys who do everything possible to escape the mayhem.

The story (apparently a cult classic) is well written with blood & guts a-plenty and a narrative that flows really well.

I have ready many books of this genre and I feel this is one of the better ones as the characters are believable and interesting.

Not much in the way of jokey one liners in this book like a lot of zombie novels but it does not detract the story in anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good read, 28 Mar. 2013

This is a legal thriller which is pretty intense from start to finish.

The story of Allie Whitman a professional whistle blower & lawyer Connor Norman with enough tension and action to keep you hooked till the end.

The book is very well written and apart from a slightly OTT ending it is a superb read.

This is free at time of writing this review so what have you got to lose?, download a copy & enjoy.

"Rolling Stones" Complete (Music)

3.0 out of 5 stars Flawed but overall a good selection, 26 Mar. 2013

Stones tracks up to 1981 are included in this book but sadly a few earlier tracks are missing due to copyright issues.

My big gripe with this book is 99% of it is in standard tuning which as any self respecting Stones' fan knows is not how the songs were written.

Keith's preference of open tunings (mainly G) show this book in a bad light but to be fair the songs can be worked out from the versions presented here.

Not a bad book if you want to play the Stones and don't want the hassle of different tunings.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shame, could have been so much more, 25 Mar. 2013

A Sci-Fi yarn from 1979 which although it hasn't seemed to have aged the story is just not strong enough.

It tells the tale of Rawley a former space ship captain trying to discover the reasons for an accident he was involved in a few years prior.

The story itself is OK but certainly drags in parts and the erotic side of the story is lame at best.

Overall it's a decent read but not one I would have gone out of my way to buy (I picked it up as a freebie last year).

The Beatles 1967-1970

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so good, 22 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This piano/vocal/guitar book is pretty much OK for a beginner player but the more advanced musician will find there are many mistakes in this collection.

Quite a few songs are incorrectly transcribed in the wrong key and some even have missing parts all together.

Beatles '1' and 'Complete Scores' are so much better.

Eight tracks tabbed for bass guitar with a backing track CD provide excellent value for money in this package.

If you have ever wanted to play the melodic bassline to 'Another Day' then this is the book for you.

Also features Jet, Maybe I'm Amazed & Anyway making this a valuable resource for any Paul McCartney fan.

This is a very good transcription featuring eight of Paul McCartney's most famous solo tracks.

The tabbing is excellent and there is a bonus CD featuring sound-a-like tracks with the guitar parts omitted allowing you to play along.

Nicely packaged and all I can say is it would be nice for a second volume with a few more gems on it.

Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tab version but could have had more of the tracks they covered, 22 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book provides accurate clear tabbing for 28 of the Beatles' tracks on the 1960's BBC Sessions.

The main problem is a lot of the tracks featured here are Lennon/McCartney compositions and not the plethora of tracks they covered by other artists on these shows.

Anyone who has 'The Beatles Complete Scores' (or any other of the mainstream Beatles tab/guitar books) won't need 'Can't Buy Me Love' etc although if you are new to Beatles music books this Hal Leonard compilation is well worth picking up.

Devil

3.0 out of 5 stars Short and ragged, 22 Mar. 2013

This review is from: Devil (Kindle Edition)
Devil tells the tale of abuse victim Magdelene as she struggles to free herself from her sadistic lover James.

This is very graphic in parts but the story itself seems to just meander to a pointless conclusion.

Quite a shame as it starts off quite well but the ending just seems rushed (even for a short story).

Read it if you have a spare half an hour but don't expect too much.
