5.0 out of 5 stars James May Blows Self Up, 12 Oct. 2011
That kind of thing - bomb disposal, duelling with pistols, a guide to picking up girls and building a toy train toilet roll dispenser. Didn't get to see all of this so looking forward to the bits I missed. Wonder if James is still looking for the bits he missed when he blew himself up. Fun guide to everything men should know or do.

5.0 out of 5 stars An educating entertainment!, 29 Jun. 2010
This review is from: Playing Shakespeare [DVD] (DVD)
I was really excited to see this was available after all this time. Aside from being a real education in the language and performance of Shakespeare, it's great to see all these legends of the stage and screen in their youthly prime. And is that Helena Bonham Carter in the audience in the first episode? It's a luvvy fest for theatre fans that's not to be missed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Retro Drama - Tons of Fun, 20 July 2009
This is just a great collection. Cravats could be coming back - hey, if wide shoulders from the 80s are...
This is all kinds of fun, hokey and otherwise. The episodes filmed on location are just fun - but almost more fun are the ones and/or scenes shot in the studio. Some have great 70s designs - some you can see the tape holding down the carpet. But Francis Matthews as Paul Temple is just a style-setting Sun God. And the man himself gives a great interview as a DVD Extra.
Just great stuff all over.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Than Just Fishing, 6 Mar. 2009
There's a new series of this going out now on Channel 5 and I've found it really enjoyable, so will have to catch up with the first series on DVD. I remember seeing some of this at the time and it was a lot of fun. Grappling for Catfish in Louisiana sticks in my mind - lying body down in the mud feeling your way for Catfish. Well, its not every day...

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't wait to get back to school, 16 Feb. 2009
This review is from: Waterloo Road [DVD] (DVD)
This is classic stuff and totally hooked me in. I came to this series late, but now I'm there I'm sticking around. Really looking forward to these episodes on DVD and the arrival of Eva Pope in the role of the new Headteacher.

What a great way to work out - all of the exercise, none of the boredom. And the moves come in handy. Great fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Jolly Robust Outing with a Great Raconteur, 1 Dec. 2008
Not being a cricket fan, I didn't know Henry Blofeld until I heard him on Desert Island Discs. What a character! And what a storyteller. This DVD was a revelation, he's a classic man-about-town in the manner of PG Wodehouse, and a great teller of tales whether of his homelife and upbringing or his adventures in the world of cricket. He is that special something that is Forever England. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Barbara Windsor - Who Knew?!, 19 Nov. 2008
This was a really great series, and probably what I most enjoyed about it was how interesting the most unexpected people were. I mean, Barbara Windsor I expected to be interesting, but what a revelation they saved for the end. And the stuff you learn! Why was drunkenness so common in the 19th century and earlier? Because there was a lack of fresh, drinkable water, so the only liquid you could trust was beer! For many that still holds true. But anyway, a really fascinating series that gives great insight into how the world turns.

4.0 out of 5 stars At Last, 19 Nov. 2008
About time this came to DVD. Michael Kitchen is hilarious, and it'll complete my Paul Abbott collection of great writing for TV.
