I really wanted to enjoy this book but it had issues. First, the plot seems just thrown together and at times disjointed. Secondly, I wish the author had edited out all the times someone 'screamed'. It drove me mad. I'd have liked some of the plot lines to be explained or expanded more. Sadly I felt the characters weren't fully dimensional enough to be believable.
I wanted to sink my teeth into a good book set in New York but this one missed the mark for me, which is a shame as I don't like giving negative reviews. I do wish the author luck with other works though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 20 Mar 2012
This review is from: Murder in Devon (Kindle Edition)
Maggi Andersen's Murder in Devon is a riveting suspense story, which I thoroughly enjoyed, despite it not being a genre I usually read.
The plot is fast-paced with lots of twists and turns.
The characters are real and well-developed.
The descriptions are visual, putting you right there.
Maggi Andersen has a great talent in this genre, a departure from her Regency historical novels I have read and enjoyed. The research and details are superbly done.
I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent medieval romance., 5 Feb 2012
Mirella Patzer brings to life the 12th century in her historical romance, The Pendant.

The author knows the period well and weaves a brilliant story together that keeps the reader interested and wanting to turn the pages.

The love story of Morena and Amoro will delight the reader as they negotiate the rocky path that leads to true love and happiness.

I highly recommend The Pendant to those readers who enjoy well-researched historical romance novels, with engaging characters and intriguing plots.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable fiction, 26 July 2011
This review is from: Elysium (Kindle Edition)
Blurb: In 1815, after the battle of Waterloo, Napoleon Bonaparte and a few loyal followers are exiled to St. Helena. On this remote, volcanic island, Amélie Perrault, the daughter of Napoleon's head chef, struggles with her low station in life and a fascination with the fallen French emperor. When her beautiful singing voice catches Napoleon's attention, she is drawn into his clash with their British jailers, court intrigues, and a burgeoning sexual attraction. Napoleon is soured on love, yet this young woman's selfless devotion tugs at his heart. After political maneuvers fail to release him from the island, he desires freedom no matter the risk-but will he desert the only woman who has loved him for himself? Elysium, in Greek mythology, is where the gods are sent to die. Amélie suspects someone in their entourage is poisoning the emperor. Will she uncover the culprit in time and join in Napoleon's last great battle plan, a dangerous escape?

Review: Author Diane Scott Lewis is a master of description and bringing a scene to life with excellent historical details. She has taken on a subject not easy to like in Napoleon, yet she manages to show another side of him, the man Amelie falls in love with. This book is not what you would expect, however if you are willing to go with the story and accept it, then you'll enjoy an intriguing plot and memorable characters.
