5.0 out of 5 stars Dream Theater...who???, 17 Jun 2011
This review is from: Heavenly Ecstasy (Audio CD)
After witnessing first-hand the dramatic rises and falls of firstly Queensryche and then Dream Theater, the world of Progressive Metal needs new salvation...it arrived long ago and they are called Pagan's Mind!!!

THEY ARE NOT Queensryche or Dream Theater at their peak!!!

THEY ARE NOT THE NEW QUEENSRYCHE OR DREAM THEATER!!!

THEY ARE PAGAN'S MIND...THE FINEST PROGRESSIVE METAL BAND EVER!!!

I hope to the Gods and Goddesses that this album is the one that will break them into the big time!!!

Heavenly Ecstasy really is just that!!!

It's the best band showing off what they are capable of!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Will the UK actually GET the full-length versions?, 5 April 2011
I just hope this time that they choose to give us the UNCUT 15 rated version of the first film, rather than the edited PG rated version!

OK, it's only 8 minutes, but when you're paying for the full-length versions then they should be the full-length versions!!!

Last year I was enduring Root Canal Dental Treatment when they hit a nerve that hadn't been covered by the anaesthetic...I hadn't endured a pain like it in my life before!!!

This album makes that experience seem painless!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond Brilliant!!!, 16 Sep 2005
Filmed at the start of 2003 in Milton Keynes, this was the first performance by The Hamsters to be filmed for a DVD Release. The finished result "To Infirmity And Beyond" is the best yet concert release by the greatest (and hardest working) band on the UK Circuit!
With their usual humour Slim (Guitar), Zsa Zsa (Bass Guitar) and Otis (Drums) are captured delivering two hours of outstanding quality music that the fans of the band have come to expect.
If you have yet to experience a live show by The Hamsters, once you've watched this DVD you'll be logging onto their website to find out when they're playing locally!!! If you have seen them live, this is a perfect way to get you through the withdrawal symptoms until you get to see them again.
Kicking off with their very own "Switchboard Susan" we are treated to a lot of everything they're famous for. Hendrix covers like "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" and "The Star Spangled Banner" cannot fail to impress even the hardest of critics, while original numbers like "I Wanna Make Love To You" and "Crazy 'Bout An Automobile" show that they could do away with cover versions if they wished.
The main set ends in the traditional way with ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man" which has developed over the years and now sees little bits of Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water" and Blur's "Song 2" thrown in for good measure before the famous 'double changeover' takes place (if you don't know what that is...buy the DVD or see them live!!!)
This is an amazing DVD, the picture quality is excellent and the sound quality is excellent. The mastering is impressive with "B-Movie" style artwork on the menu screens. If you appreciate good quality music, you'll not be disappointed if you buy this!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Storming Germany!!!, 16 Sep 2005
In 1997, The Hamsters performed at a Blues Festival in Germany, which was filmed and edited highlights were shown on European TV. The full set they played is released here as "Rodents Rock The Reich."
As ever Slim (Guitar), Zsa Zsa (Bass Guitar) and Otis (Drums) are at their unsurpassed best. With Slim introducing the songs in German as well as English the band power through selected highlights of their live shows that have given them the reputation of being one of the finest (and hardest working!) bands in the country.
Superb performances of "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" and "Purple Haze" represent the Hendrix side of their repertoire, there's a great rendition of the blues standard "The Walk" from their regular set and own numbers like the humorous 'protest song' "Blues For The Blues" and the wonderful "I Wanna Make Love To You" show they are far from being a covers band.
The main set closes with ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man" and the encore of their very own "Chequebook" closes the performance.
Remastered onto DVD, again by Kurt Adkins, this is yet another excellent release by the band, the picture quality, having been filmed for TV is very sharp, and the sound quality is excellent. If you're into real music by excellent musicians, this DVD is a must-have!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lil Ol' Band From Essex, 16 Sep 2005
This review is from: Hamsters: Verminator [DVD] (DVD)
In 1997, having recently performed as special guests to ZZ Top on their Rhythmeen tour, The "Lil Ol' Band From Essex" paid tribute to the "Lil Ol' Band From Texas."
"Verminator!" sees The Hamsters return to The Square in Harlow and rip through a terrific cross-section of ZZ Top's history.
As with their Hendrix concerts, Slim (Guitar), Zsa Zsa (Bass Guitar) and Otis (Drums) don't follow the usual tribute band route and copy the originals, they interpret and develop each song in a way that ZZ Top themselves should take notice of!!!
All the hits from ZZ Top's MTV peak like "Gimme All Your Loving" are here as well as some real overlooked gems like "Jesus Just Left Chicago."
A real bonus of this DVD is the way that a sound error that spoiled the original VHS release has been corrected for the DVD. "Sharp Dressed Man" had a sound drop-out that lasted for about 30 seconds, however the DVD has been repaired by using sound from another concert, and is only noticeable if you go out of your way and look and listen hard...WELL DONE KURT ADKINS!!! YOU HAVE EXCELLED YOURSELF!!!
This is another good value, excellent release, the picture quality is surprisingly sharp and the sound quality is excellent. All in all another must-have for any fan of PROPER music!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars What An "Experience!", 16 Sep 2005
The 1996 Jimi Hendrix Memorial Tour of 1996 saw The Hamsters perform across the UK and Europe to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the untimely passing of Jimi Hendrix.
"Band Of Gerbils" sees them bring that show to The Square in Harlow (where they filmed their first Video "Burnin' Vermin" - also recently re-released on DVD).
Anyone who has seen The Hamsters perform Hendrix numbers doesn't need to be told how Slim (Guitar/Vocals), Zsa Zsa (Bass Guitar) and Otis (Drums) brings Hendrix's music alive. However, unlike most tribute bands, The Hamsters don't just copy the originals, they interpret and develop each number whilst remaining true to the spirit of the original.
Delivered as always with great humour, the music is treated with serious respect and Hendrix and Hamsters fans will not be disappointed with this presentation. All the hits are there, as well as some overlooked classics, some of which even Hendrix never performed live.
As with the other re-issues of their DVDs, Kurt Adkins has done an excellent job of transferring the original Analogue Video Recording. The picture quality is surprisingly sharp and the sound quality is exceptional.
As a point of interest, the DVD has a different track listing to the Double CD "The Jimi Hendrix Memorial Concerts." Anyone who's seen The Hamsters will know that no two shows are the same, so buying both will give you the full cross-section of songs that they performed over the tour, giving you the full "Experience" (Every Pun intended!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Vermin On Fire!!!, 16 Sep 2005
First released in 1990, and deleted since 1999, "Burnin' Vermin" was the first video release by The Hamsters.
Recorded at The Square in Harlow, the band put in a performance that is of the exceptional quality Hamsters fans have come to expect...anyone who hasn't seen or heard them before, treat yourself and buy this DVD. You will not believe what Slim can do with his guitar, and the solid Rhythm Section of Zsa Zsa (Bass Guitar) and Otis (Drums) show why they pack out every venue they play during their gruelling 250-300 nights a year Tour Schedule...These guys are the best!!!
All the live favourites are here and introduced with wonderful warmth and humour by Slim, "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)," shows why their Hendrix shows have brought them critical acclaim, and own compositions such as "Chequebook" stand up alongside Rock and Blues standards like "Born To Be Wild" and "Mercury Blues" (during which Slim's slide guitar work will leave you speechless).
This eagerly anticipated DVD release looks remarkably sharp, given it was filmed with a limited budget at a time when Digital Video was still a long way off, and the digitally remastered sound is fantastic, Kurt Adkins has done the original video a great justice in this DVD re-issue. The filming and camera directions aren't brilliant, and you get people's heads in the way at times, but that's just being picky...this is a great concert DVD by a great band.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best ever Music DVD is replaced by the follow-up!!!, 2 Aug 2005
The first DVD I ever bought was the DVD of "Hell Freezes Over" when my only access to a DVD Player was my PC, and the picture quality knocked me out so much I soon bought myself a player to connect up to the TV.
On playing the Farewell Tour DVD, I was even more impressed with the picture quality. As for the quality of the performance by the band, the choice of set-list and the value for money for this item...COME ON!!! IT'S THE EAGLES!!! THEY ARE NEVER ANYTHING SHORT OF EXCELLENT!!! If you're reading this review you're obviously interested in buying it!!! Turn on your 1-click ordering, treat yourself and enjoy the experience of seeing the best Band to come out of the USA!!!
