BASS!, 28 Feb 2013
EDIT (04-Mar-2013): I didn't realise it when I wrote the review, but my Android automatically turns on Beats Audio which emphasizes and exaggerates the music. Once turned off, the bass is not as overpowering as I made it out to be.
I've only had these headphones for 2 hours, so I may miss some things. However, these are very powerful headphones with some extreme bass that I've never heard in headphones before. I read the other reviews about the bass and thought I could imagine how they would sound, but trust me these things pack a punch when it comes to the bass. If Drum 'n Bass is your thing, or some other genre with emphasis on heavy, deep bass, these are the headphones for you. MASSIVE bass.
However, the bass overpowers regular music if you're a casual listener, but this can easily be fixed by using an equaliser. I bought these headphones to listen to music on my Android, so I did as another buyer said and downloaded a free equaliser app to tone down the bass on songs that don't require it, which I also recommend doing. You may have to spend a little time to learn how an equaliser works in order to get the sound just right simply because the bass is so powerful. Even when using the preset options (Jazz, Rock, Dance, etc.), it is still somewhat overpowering, so this is an inconvenience. Another inconvenience is you'll have to adjust it for each genre. Perhaps making many custom presets would work.
These headphones are also extremely loud, so mind your ears! They're so loud in fact, I'm playing all my music on 1/3 volume (Android) and it's loud enough that I can't hear anything else. The earphones are also very effective at blocking out background noise. Seriously, these headphones are basically music-enabled ear plugs. You could literally unplug these and wear them to bed and get a sound night.
One thing I don't like about them is they tend to stick out of your ears quite a bit, so if you have short hair they may look a little silly. However, this is my personal preference. They're sizeable but not huge, if you know what I mean, with a measurement of almost exactly 1 inch in length.
All in all, a very high-quality pair of headphones for a bargain price. Extreme bass, fantastic sound clarity even at high volumes, but overpowering bass IF you don't compensate by using an EQ. You'll NEED AN EQ to enjoy music with these headphones.
