5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional wrtiing - highly recommended, 5 May 2012
This review is from: Breathe: One (Kindle Edition)
I feel like I have been waiting all my life to read Leila Segal's work. She manages, with a simple elegance, to convey all those feelings and states of being we often have no words for. The language is poetic and understated and her eye for detail is exceptional. She writes about the univeral experience of human alienation with such accuracy I feel I have learnt more about the world by reading her work. I cannot praise it highly enough. If you have ever felt unsure of your footing and place, whether it be because of personal, cultural, emotional or political reasons 'Breathe' is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelliigent, passionate and real, 10 Jun. 2011
This review is from: A Book of Blues (Paperback)
I would highly recommend this book. It's like carrying the city in your pcoket. Newland has such a fine sense of place and character it's impossible not to get totally absorbed in his writing. I especially enjoyed that the women in this book are complex, intelligent, sexy, passionate and above all real. I raced through this book in two sittings - totally un-putdownable !

5.0 out of 5 stars Breadfruit - A wonderful collection, 18 Nov. 2008
This review is from: Breadfruit (Mouthmark) (Paperback)
Breadfruit by esteemed poet and performer, Malika Booker, is a beautiful collection of poetry. Malika writes with the gentlest touch about a breadth of human experience. 'My Father's Letter' tells the story of a letter from an absent father, 'Hungerford Bridge' is about a friends suicide. All the poems in this book will touch your heart as Malika tenderly encourages the reader to look again, see the truth in all things.

This is a book is an ember that will light up your days.
