Sensational, 11 May 2002
The best album the King ever made, and just possibly the best album of all time, is From Elvis in Memphis. Yes, it should be better known, but tracks like "In the Ghetto" from this album have become legendary. Every track is a masterpiece and as an album is the blueprint for adult orientated rock albums such as Blood on the Tracks. Amazingly the masterful Suspicious Minds was never on this album when first released, but now it's here. And along with tracks from "Back in Memphis" (Elvis other album from 1969) this is the definitive version.

Magnificent, 8 Mar 2002
King Creole was Elvis' fourth film, and with a stellar cast, legendary director and a great script; you'll know that King Creole is an excellent film. Regarded by many as Elvis best film; I disagree, "Flaming Star", "Jailhouse Rock", "Wild in the Country", "Change of Habit" and "Charro" are also contenders.

Good Musical, 3 Mar 2002
Frankie and Johnny is a film loosely based on the hit song of the same name. It is an all out musical, light weight and quite enjoyable. It made a lot of money when released, and although not near Elvis best film; the cast is good (Harry Morgan of M*A*S*H co stars) the songs are passable on screen, plus the absolutely gorgeous Nancy Kovak.

BREATHTAKING, 26 Feb 2002
THAT'S THE WAY IT IS SHOWCASES ELVIS AT HIS BEST, DELIVERING WHAT IS PROBABLY THE BEST LIVE MUSIC EVER MADE. THE SOUND IS GREAT, PICTURE IS PIN-SHARP, BUT WHERE ARE THE FEATURES, REHEARSAL FOOTAGE, BACKSTAGE AND MISSING SONGS FROM THE ORIGINAL. STILL THIS CANNOT BE TOUCHED, WITH ONLY JAMES BROWN, JOHNNY CASH AND ELVIS OWN 68 SPECIAL AND ON TOUR 72 COMING CLOSE.

More From That's The Way It Is, 8 Feb 2002
Here we have another concert from August 1970 that sits along side the new That's The Way It Is box set and DVD. RCA/BMG have released a wealth of material from TTWII, this, the box set plus another concert on the Live in Las Vegas set and a book with CD. Its a pity that more footage has not be released, as once again we are treated to a stunning live performance.

A Great Collection That Should Have Been, 8 Feb 2002
The songs recorded here were recorded to be a follow up to Elvis #1 Pot Luck album from 1962. RCA decided to scrap the album in favour of more movie soundtacks, and in turn relegating the songs to B-sides and sountrack album fillers. A few of the songs here actually were hits and sold well, proving the fact that RCA was wrong. It's a great pity that the album never surfaced, as the songs here are of a very high standard and would have made his best album since Elvis is Back. Devil In Disguise was a massive seller, #1 in Britain in 1963. It Hurts Me is a classic recording, one of the most beautiful ballads I have ever heard. It was a B-side to the terrible Kissin Cousins single, yet still sold around a half million copies and charted in its own right. Memphis Tennessee is a classic rocker, with a great drum beat and a fab vocal by the King. The rest of the tracks are lesser known, but dont let that put you off as this is great music. Long Lonely Highway is a standout, a travelling country blues. Witchcraft is not the Sinatra song, but its a good bouncy rock song. Ask me is a gentle ballad and was a half million selling hit in America, whilst Western Union suffers from similarities to Return to Sender. This is a very worthy purchase, and is a great companion to the Tomorrow is a Long Time CD, another possible album that never saw the light of day.

THE HOLY GRAIL OF ROCK N ROLL, 8 Feb 2002
All too often the term 'essential' is tagged to CDs, well I can tell you that if any CD deserved to be called essential, this is it. This is the birth of rock n roll music, when an unknown Elvis Presley first moulded country, blues, gospel and rythm and blues. This is not only the birth of rock music, but the essence of rock, without it no Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin or infact music as we know it now. All of the tracks still sparkle with raw energy, vitality and originality that all who followed tried to emulate, but never could.

The Definitive Blue Hawaii, 8 Feb 2002
Blue Hawaii was a great film, huge at the box-office, and massive selling on the music charts. The movie itself grossed $14 million, the album hit #1 for 20wks in the US and #1 for 18 wks in Britain. It is ranked 2nd on Billboard's top #1 albums between 1960-1969 and #9 on Billboards all time hot 100 albums, plus beingh the 9th longest album ever at #1 in Britain. The amazing song Can't Help Falling in Love hit #2 in America and #1 in Britain, its the best song on the CD. Rock a Hula Baby is also very good, a fun twist style track. No More is one of the best, its bordering on operatic, and of course Hawaiian Wedding Song is a favourite, although I prefer the live version from Elvis in Concert. Some of the songs are out of context on an album, they are at home on the screen: this is hardly Elvis in Memphis, Moody Blue or Thats the Way it is, but it does compliment the film and has some fun alternate takes as a bonus.

The Burbank Trilogy is Now Complete, 8 Feb 2002
Burbank 68 compliments Tiger Man and Memories as the definitive trilogy of the 68 special. A box set would have been great, but I urge you to buy all three. This is sensational music, including pre-show reharsals and plus the second of the stand-up shows. The sound quality is excellent, on this, a strong contender for the best music the King ever made. Infact the 68 special as a forerunner to the MTV Unplugged concept, with Elvis and band-mates in the middle of a small audience, raw and gutsy, as good as he ever was and better than anyone else could have dared to be. With the 35th anniversary of the 68 special next year I hear that a special DVD is on the cards: hopefully, with all of the footage from both stand-up shows, both sit-down shows, the original broadcast and rare footage!

Quite Simply Amazing, 8 Feb 2002
Elvis gospel music is a revelation; no-one could sing gospel music like the King, with fire, brimstone, soul, rock and funk. This is striking music from the master.
