Hitachi 500gb Freeview HD Digital TV Recorder with Smart HDR5T01
Hitachi 500gb Freeview HD Digital TV Recorder with Smart HDR5T01

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact and good performance so far., 3 July 2014

This recorder will record 2 Freeview HD, or 2 SD channels at the same time which was a bonus since a lot of my favourite programmes often overlap or are on at the same time.

If you connect the box up to your modem either using an Ethernet cable or a wireless Ethernet adaptor you can get access to the BBC I player catch-up service via the red-button.

The recording quality on HD is as good as the original transmission as it is on standard definition. 500GB disk means plenty of space for recordings and should only run out if you record entire series to keep for a long time.

Gets a little warm when switched on, especially if the ambient temperature is quite high but this is probably due to the hard disk as the one's in my computer also get quite warm.

Also small physical size won't take up much room in/on your TV cabinet.

A value for money purchase with features that I were not aware of that come as a bonus.

I purchased a Freeview HD Digital TV recorder and connected the aerial input of my Freeview TV to the loop through aerial connections on the box. When the recorder is switched off it occasionally switches itself on automatically to update channels and the EPG. This caused the television picture to glitch every time. Solved the problem by using this little metal splitter...connected my aerial to the input and then connected the television and the box separately to the outputs of the splitter. Now the box doesn't interfere with the television. There is some signal level reduction but it will be fine if you live in a strong signal area.
A lot of the other splitters seem to be 1 female in to 2 male outs which wouldn't work with the cables in the setup that I had originally got. The Title listing of the object indicates Female to 2x male, but the one I ordered and got was 1 male to 2 female.

3.0 out of 5 stars very bright but several flaws, 23 Mar 2014

One of the LEDs did not light up and I had to tap the unit to make it work again. Changing/inserting batteries requires the removal of 2 small cross point screws. You need a small screwdriver to remove them, a standard workbench screwdriver will probably be too big to fit the screws.. This will be ok in the home environment but when used out and about e.g car/camping then you will be in the dark once the batteries run out if you forget to pack a suitable screwdriver and a spare set of batteries.

In the Amazon item description it says this light uses 3 x AA batteries which is the main reason I bought it. It does not, instead it uses the much lower capacity AAA batteries. As a result the useful light output time is much reduced, I used a good quality set of AAA batteries of 800mAh capacity and got roughly 2 hours of useful light whereby the surroundings were lit adequately. After this, the LEDs get gradually dimmer over a period of time in excess of 12 hours but do not provide enough output to light the surroundings. If the light used AA batteries you would get perhaps 6 hours of useful light output. For some reason all the LED lights that I have purchased use 3 x AAA batteries, there must be some bloke in Brussels that issued an E.U directive saying that all LED lights have to use 3 x AAA batteries. Why they don't change the dropping resistor so that the lights can use 2 or 4 batteries I don't know. Batteries tend to be sold in packs of 2 or 4 so it would make sense to use an even number of them in devices like this.

On the plus side the magnet is strong enough to hold the light securely to any ferrous metal surface, the hook can be rotated and is useful for hanging from lampshades, door handles, curtain rails and tent poles etc.
The LEDs are very bright when batteries are first inserted. Don't look directly into the LEDs otherwise you will be seeing 25 points of light wherever you look for the next ten minutes.
General construction is quite solid and the power switch seems to be quite durable and not flimsy. If only it used AA batteries.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but good, 22 Mar 2014

This battery charger is quite expensive compared to others on the market. But there is some truth that you get what you pay for in this instance. The battery charger uses individual channels for charging/testing etc. Rechargeable batteries never have the same capacity as each other and so they need to be charged individually, which this battery charger does. I always discharge the batteries fully before charging them up as this maintains the life of the battery better. Useful functions for charging/discharging and testing batteries. The batteries can be charged at 3 different rates to suit the capacity of the battery

Its certainly the best battery charger I've ever owned. Just hope it keeps going for a very long time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful to replace loads of CDs in car, 14 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My car only has a radio and 1 disk CD player. CDs only hold about 80 minutes of audio and I found I was flooded with CDs in the car which I had burnt with music from my exisiting library of shop bought CDs and Amazon downloads. I use this FM transmitter with my MP3 player which can store 8 hours of audio (and can be erased and rewritten to) and play it over the car's FM radio. The audio quality is acceptable as compared with radio stations on the FM band and battery life is good. Sometimes a bit of crackle and hiss is present depending on the orientation of the unit and its closeness to the car's FM aerial. The power consumption of the unit is approx 30mA so 2x600mAH AAA batteries should last about 20 hours, although I haven't done a proper test of this yet.
For the price I am very pleased with this little unit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good frequency response, 13 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
PROS:

To my ears a good frequency response with mimimal peaks...nice clean highs and good bass reproduction.

Comes with an XLR to 1/4inch jack lead for connection to mixer etc.

Good value for money.

Good uni-directional performance to reduce speaker feedback.

CONS:

If using for vocals get a windshield on it to stop annoying breath pops and booms.

Also for vocal use don't use the mike too close to your mouth as this artificially
increases the amount of bass...this is referred to in the instructions as the bass
proximity effect...However sometimes its useful to have that extra bass if you are
recording crooner numbers (e.g bing crosby etc. type stuff).

No on/off switch

Handling noise is quite high if using handheld...if you wobble the lead around
some noise gets transmitted to the mike. Its best to use on mike stand.

In conclusion ... Nice little mike, top value for money...I use it on a boom mike stand with my piano/keyboard and
it works very well in this situation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good sound quality and comfortable., 30 July 2013

Bought a new MP3 player only to discover the included earphones were awful, they had the frequency response of a telephone.
Got these as a replacement and was pleasantly suprised that the sound quality was very good in comparison considering the price.
For the best sound I push them quite firmly into my ears and this seems to make the bass end better and stops them falling out when jogging / exercising. When walking/jogging you don't get the thudding sound of your footsteps resonating in your ears which I have found with the in ear - phones with the silicone rubber tips.
All round not too bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick delivery and no hassle installation, 30 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this for a mate of mine when his router and motherboard ethernet port were blitzed by a lightning storm.
Popped this card into a spare PCI socket, connected it up to a new router, switched on the computer and it
installed very quickly in win xp. Internet was up and running again within a few minutes. The price was very
good at less than a fiver (inc P&P) and the comes with an installation CD if the computer doesn't install it automatically.
Medium length cable also included which will be useful as a spare.

All round A+.

I bought this mp3 player to replace a very similar model that I purchased in 2005. The old one gave up the ghost and I ordered this one hoping the buttons and functions were the same. Indeed this turned out to be true and as a bonus it was cheaper and has got twice the memory of the old one. The battery life also seems better, using a GP ReCyko+ 820mAh I get in excess of 10 hours use. The supplied headphones are not the best quality so I use a better quality set and the sound quality is reasonably good. I tend to set the EQ to the "Rock" setting which enhances the bass and top end of the music. I can't comment on the durability of the product as I have not had it that long (the old player lasted 8 years so it will be interesting to see how long this one lasts in comparison).
