A great movie. The IRA theme has been depicted from many angles over the years yet this one still holds the attention of the audience. The acting is partly responsible for this. The stakes for those in these situations are extreme and this is well depicted in the movie. It's interesting to see how a family can be so close and loving yet at some level they remain unknown to each other. Worth watching for the acting and the discussion it provokes

5.0 out of 5 stars A wider view of the history of London, 18 Feb 2013

An uplifting and well explored documentary of the diversity within London. An excellent argument against those who are too ready to accept this government's argument against immigration. To truly gain a balanced, evidenced, researched understanding of London as a cosmopolitan city, see this documentary. It will enrich your view and endear you to the people who make up the spirit of London

A very different take on a love triangle. I found it a bit far fetched but if you approach it with an open mind and that anything is possible, then I guess it's a fair depiction. The acting is very good and the complexity of the characters allows for deeper analysis and understanding of humanity. A fascinating insight into, what for me, is an unknown side of life. Worth seeing!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must see, 28 Sep 2010
I love this movie! I watched it for the first time as a little girl and was enthralled by it then. This remains and now my kids watch it! Children's entertainment at its best - no swearing etc just good old movie making, filling the viewer with a sense of fantasy and joy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cinema at its best, 13 Sep 2010
This review is from: Ladybird, Ladybird [DVD] (DVD)
This is a really important piece of cinematic work. Its non-jugmental but at the same time does not save the viewer from the realities of how destructive flaws in our judgment and ultimately society can be. It gives a powerful voice to those whom are often dismissed due to their perceived inability to tell their story in a way that those in power want to receive it.

It shows human nature at it rawest. A very powerful film. Although difficult to watch at times, it's a must-see!
