Aki Kurasmaki always seems to draw the very best from his cast. Apart from the different local, France, this is still very identifiable as a Kurasamaki film. Happy, sad, quirky characters in difficult circumstances he even makes the French locales look like his Americana version of Helsinki. As allways very rewarding.

Hard to fault these essential packages, 40 to 50 tracks of previously hard to find Rock. R&B by leaders and unkowns of the genre, collected by the recording labels. All tracks older thean 50 yrs so all public domain, no copyright fees makes the prices very affordable. Great recordings, smart packaging, well chosen tracks. Missing 5 stars only because of scant liner notes but for the incredibly cheap price I cannot complain. Great value, Great tunes.

Stories of the old and new west. Lynchings, torture, murder, assinations, the dark stuff of American literature. New tellings of old themes, William Faulkner and Tennesee Williams in a rock band. This is the real dark roots of the real murder ballads sung and played with conviction and authenticity. I would not be inviting these guys to dinner. Highest recomendation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son", 19 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The 2nd in the Mcdonald/Mckellar road collaboration, black Canadian comedy full of quirky characters and prophetic dialogue. Great acting team of Don Mckellar and Valerie Buhagiar like Joel Mcrea and Veronica Lake in Preston Sturges Sullivans Travels. Falls just short of Roadkil for me but essential viewing. The crime is no one is making this type of independent cinema anymore. 3rd movie in trilogy is Hard Core Logo unfortunatley unavailable on DVD, criminal.

1.0 out of 5 stars One star for the cover art, 19 July 2012

A movie like most of the recent 70s/80s revival horror flicks made by people who obviosly do not undrestand the medium let alone the genre. Suspending until the last 5 minutes of viewing any intelligent plot threads, action, storyline, character development or any visual entertainment value whatsoever, does not create suspense only tedium. Avoid

5 Stars for Oscar of course but the book loses a star for lack of anotation or illustrations. Beautiful designer Binding and Art Nouveau front and end covers, gold trim and leatherette finish. Pride of place on the bookshelf.

From a historical view point its geat to see a publishing company take the time to release these books and package them so attractively. The Binding and paper stock is of high quality and the Hard cover very enticing, unfortunately the same cannot be said of the original stories and artwork, mostly purile and clumsy, Bob Powel being one of the few exceptions.
The colour scans (public domain) are quite dark and muddy compared to American releases of the same stories in other anthologies such as Four colour Fear and the Ditko Archives.
The rather uneccerssary intro by Joe Hill tells us nothing of the History of Harvey Publications but almost seems to be trying to con the reader into accepting the poor quality of the contents as nostalgic treasures from the crypt, which they most certainly are not. Far superior and much better representations of 50's American Horror Comics are the GemStone releases of The E.C. Titles Tales from the Crypt, etc. Allthough recoloured but retaining the original style of the comics. Unforunately out of print but hopefully soon to be resurrected.

What the @#%!. OK, so I purchased this CD on line before any reviews or soundbites were available but nothing could have prepared me for such a huge dissapointment. I love the Dirtbombs but I hate this CD. OK, I'm not a techno fan but I dig some cool beats, this sounds like some horrible self indulgent prog rock band session outtake. 21 mins of repetative beats on Bug in the Bassbin should have ended up in the wastebin. I will listen one more time to Jaguar and then return to previous CD's and hope the Dirtbombs will do like wise. Ditch the Party Store and buy Black lightning by the BellRays instead, for a rockn good time.
