We bought this in June 2012, like other reviews state, it began having issues after 2 years. The monitor wouldn't hold it's charge through the night, which is obviously a major issue. The other issue is that the casing is built to only accept AA batteries that are a few millimeters smaller than standard size. After some investigating, I bought GP 1300MAH batteries. Some sellers sell them as 'BT Baby monitor batteries', but also sell them as 1300MAH batteries for less. These cured the problem of it cutting out, the batteries were being charged and discharged constantly for 2 years and gave up the ghost.

As for the monitor, it is an excellent product, our wee one loves the stars and the sound quality is crystal clear.

Humax Freeview playback Digital TV Recorder PVR-9150T 160GB Twin Tuner PVR
Humax Freeview playback Digital TV Recorder PVR-9150T 160GB Twin Tuner PVR

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, no problem at all, 19 Jun. 2011
We have had this for a week now, and initially because of the mixed reviews of the Humax boxes, I was sceptical. But as soon as it is switched on for the first time, it searches for channels and services without being asked and that's it, ready to use. The menu is easy to use, it's not as polished as some of the high end newer HD boxes, but very simple, similar to Sky.

As for comments about the software issues, we've not had a problem as of yet, I am usre the firmware issues are sorted by now. And for people rating it one star because of issues with the signal - that's your aerial or transmitter's problem, not the box. I'd never bought Humax before, but I'd easily recommend them.

Sony RDR-HXD890 Freeview+ 160GB Hard Disc Drive DVD Recorder - Black
Sony RDR-HXD890 Freeview+ 160GB Hard Disc Drive DVD Recorder - Black

3.0 out of 5 stars For those of you wanting to replace your Sony DVD Recorder, 19 Oct. 2010
I got the HXD890 to replace my HXD710, which is still an excellent bit of kit, but I wanted a recorder that upscaled. I'd say for anyone who has never had a DVD recorder, the HXD890 is not bad, but for those of you upgrading from a previous Sony recorder you will notice the following:

There are more recording options now, allowing you to add on a further 5 or 10 minutes to, say, a 2 hour recording to disc. So fitting 3 episodes of a 42 minute programme at good quality is now achievable
Regardless of what some other reviews are saying, you CAN A-B erase as before, so you can cut adverts.
The recorded picture quality is slightly better than my HXD790.
High speed dubbing to a disc now takes 10 minutes instead of 8 and a half, but finalising takes under a minute.
The pause I used to get between edits on recorded programmes on the hard-drive is now gone.

Build quality is way down from Sony units built 5 years ago, less buttons on the unit and remote.
Menus have been changed for the worse, whilst once all recording to DVD options were in the one menu, they are spralled over the place now.
On screen graphics are very poor and some menus now cut off audio when you enter them.
Manual recording has went back to the menu style used on much older recorders, the type that utilises the red and green remote buttons to navigate. The HXD790 had a very easy, VHS like, method that took seconds.
You cannot create a playlist on the hard drive, thus you cannot combine recordings unless it is on a DVD-RW. This is the reason I am looking for another recorder, it's a pretty major thing to remove if you record from multiple sources.

3.0 out of 5 stars Above average printer, 13 Sept. 2010
We previously used a deskjet K550 in our office, which at times is pretty demanding on printing. The K550 was an excellent machine, it was only in the last month of it's life that we needed to set the default ink levels to normal, as draft quality was more than adequate.

The 8000 is as if Lexmark or a budget printer brand created a version of the HP Deskjet - build quality feels cheap, print quality is lower, paper jams at times (although this cured itself). Currently we have to run off 1 or 2 pages before we print, as the first 2 pages out of the machine first thing in the morning has lines in it. Leave it a few hours and print again and the lines appear again, print head cleaning and new carts do not solve this.

I am hoping that HP have improved the quality of their sub £100 office printers, their range from 5 years ago was well worth the money, perhaps in this credit crunch era something has to be made so much cheaper to rake back money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, 15 Aug. 2010
This book is very well researched and a very good read. It gives an indepth look to the weird and wonderful side of professional wrestling, which non-fans will enjoy too. Unlike some of the wrestling biographies out there, it's very factual and the presentation of the book is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Album, 1 Aug. 2010
This review is from: Catching A Tiger (Audio CD)
I bought this album on the basis of the second single, When I'm Alone and while it has always been a risk investing in a new artist on the basis of one track, this was worth the risk.

Fantastic album, some songs are just as good, if not superior to the singles released. By all means, preview the album on her official site or Myspace, but this album is an example of how good something can be without the over-production or hype

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, 23 Jun. 2010
This review is from: Gamer [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Even Michael C Hall is reduced to sub-standard acting with this script. Just a terrible movie, overkill on blood and sex just make you numb to it within half an hour. Mind you, if you thought Crank was the great, maybe this switch your brain and nervous system garbage is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars For those of you with problems with this machine, 8 Aug. 2009
I got one of these December 05 and it has been one of the best purchases I have ever made. It has crashed a few times with me, but is becomeing old hat what with my Sky+ and the newer models with bigger hard drives and HD upscaling.

Like any electrical item problem, if it has problems outside the warranty, contact the manufacturer (not the seller) and remind them that under the sales of goods act 1979, something must last a REASONABLE amount of time, and under 2 years is not reasonable for a DVD recorder
