Wenko 144726100 Bamboo Toilet Seat - Chrome-Metal Attachments Dark Bamboo Wood
Wenko 144726100 Bamboo Toilet Seat - Chrome-Metal Attachments Dark Bamboo Wood
Price: 37.18

5.0 out of 5 stars A very nicely crafted seat that looks good, with extremely dodgy and badly made collapsible fixings …, 15 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Probably the nicest loo seat I've ever perched upon, it's lightweight and well made and is spared an unpleasant glossy finish which usually seems to accompany this type of product. So it gets five stars to appearance and efficacy. However, I really should drop it a couple of marks for having the most extraordinary collection of fiddly fixings which seem to be over the top for the simple task they're supposed to accomplish. They are fiddly and follow no logic whatsoever. There are no instructions, simply a tiny diagram on the back of the packaging, with the fixings themselves shoved into a corner in a scruffy piece of card. Unlike the high quality of the seat itself, these fixings are shoddy and cheap as well as being of a curious design paradigm. Matters were worsened when tightening up the bolt. Without exerting any force, it managed to come out of its anchor point in the bracket, rendering the whole thing useless. It took seconds for the thing to fall apart but it took nearly two hours and brute force to get thing back in again. So be warned when attaching this seat in the case the same thing should happen to you, particularly as I couldn't find this particular bit in any catalogue or listing of spares.

5.0 out of 5 stars Designed for maximum abuse!, 14 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having had my five cats regularly wreck most scratching posts within a very short period of time, I opted for this chunky style in the hope that it might survive rather longer than its predecessors. It has been suffering daily abuse since mid April, and has survived remarkably well particularly as my two Tonkinese chaps love to take their claw activities to the extreme and really give Fat Boy a bashing. Excellent value for money -- highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the *only* account worth reading., 20 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After all the hyperbole surrounding the various channels and media being used by people to cash in on the demise of 9M-MRO, Sylvia Wrigley’s book at long last represents a bit of writing that’s straightforward and worth reading. Aptly titled “The Mystery of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370”, this is a totally no-nonsense account of the sequence of events, and their possible reasoning, that takes us up to the end of April (although updates are available from [...]).

Unlike those who have poked about at hypothesis, and chucked in a few fantasies of their own, Wrigley sticks to facts and common-sense. Although she includes examples of accidents to explain how and why incidents happen, these add value to the text rather than merely being chunks of padding to fill out the pagination. As a result, the pages ooze experience and first-hand knowledge rather than a feeling of “copy and paste” from elsewhere, with a quick edit to avoid plagiarism.

For anyone wanting to recap on how the earlier events panned out, this is the volume to choose. Penned by someone who is both a pilot and an aviation writer, Wrigley is to be applauded for presenting a nuts-and-bolts account which is easy to understand yet provides plenty of technical information.

1.0 out of 5 stars A lack of knowledge and a level of overall disinterest shine through, 27 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Many know that I’m an ardent follower of all things to do with commercial aircraft incidents, and have been for some years. I am also a technical writer; it goes with my job. So when Nigel Cawthorne’s little book about the disappearance of MH370 started to be punted about I felt compelled to buy it, even though I suspected strongly that it would be penned primarily for its sensationalism and not for its factual findings.

As a result, no-one should be surprised that fact is lacking in this account. Cawthorne appears to be a moderately clever chap who makes a living writing by rote and, in his narrative, disinterest in his topic shines through. Based on this principle, he has discovered the knack of padding out minimal information to fill a 288 page tome when, in truth, he could have related his tale in 28 pages or fewer.

Short of the decent details and data, Cawthorne has chosen to harp back to a host of aircraft incidents which bear little, if any, correlation to the destiny of MH370. Followers of accidents will already know the events to which he relates and won’t need them to be repeated out of context. Those who are only interested in learning more about the fate of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200ER will probably skip the interminable descriptions of these disparate events as they bear no relevance to the ongoing proceedings.

There has been criticism aimed at Cawthorne, claiming that he has arrived at his own theory about MH370. In fact, he hasn’t. What he has done is carefully crafted his own thoughts to make sure that, at a later date, he can’t be accused of adding his own collection of red herrings to the already over-filled bowl of fish stew.

I wasn’t expecting much of value from this book. Ergo, I wasn’t disappointed to find that it’s merely a collection of loosely bolted together comments and news items which have been appearing all over the Internet and broadcast on the news channels since 9M-MRO was first acknowledged to be missing. As a read, none of it flows, with topics jumping about with little apparent thought to their placement within the chapters. To make matters worse, the pages are littered with typos, endorsing the fact that it was written in a hurry and only proof-read in a cursory fashion.

What’s the point of this version of events, and who gains? Certainly the readers won’t learn anything that can’t be gleaned elsewhere. And, overall, Cawthorne clearly seems to believe that Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 is little more than a licence to print money. That’s fair enough, as he writes for a living. But common-sense and a peppering of decency should have led him to desist on this occasion, particularly at this stage. He should have handed over the summarising of this incident in book form to those who know more about the subject and are qualified to make factual comment. Instead, he’s dashed out what he hopes is a quick money-spinner and, in the true spirit of schadenfreude, he will reap his own dishonourable rewards from a very public disaster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant way of superseding inadequate television sound, 16 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My kitchen television, a Samsung 32inch Smart model, incorporates truly dreadful sound so I started off with some old JBL Creatures II that offered a vast improvement, before moving onto these Bose speakers which have proved to be vastly superior. Tempted by the B+W computer speakers, but deterred by their price and the quantity of soft cloth covering, I opted for spending a fraction of the cost and chose the Bose instead. I haven't been disappointed, simply connecting them to the headphone socket on the back of the television, an arrangement which still functions using the remote control provided by Samsung. The speakers offer great clarity for voice and good depth for music without having to resort to a subwoofer to get sufficient bass. They are quite chunky for speakers of this type, being deeper than I expected, but their solid build complements the quality of sound that comes out of them. No, these won't ever match up to a good pair of bi-wired speakers running off a decent amp, but for their size and the way in which they transform the rubbish sound quality from a flat-screen television, they are excellent value for money. The speakers were well packed for mail-order transit but the packaging was a total nightmare to get into; if there is a way to access the contents without resorting to a pair of tin-snips and a lot of brute force, I failed to find it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Kuhn Rikon pan, 23 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's not always easy to find pans that work well on an Aga, but I've never had any problem with Kuhn Rikon. Unlike many, the bottoms don't warp, and I've some that are several years old and still going strong. I bought two of the 16cm versions as they sit side by side on the Aga hob. The downside is that they need looking after as they're prone to scratching but, with care, they should last a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sizes come up very large …, 23 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great sweater that washes well and dries quickly (haven't put it in the tumble drier, though). For a "small" this is rather on the large side but, with this style, it doesn't really matter for my purposes. I wish they did more colours …

5.0 out of 5 stars Never thought of buying food via Amazon!, 23 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
How lovely to eat good quality organic chicken. Normally I scour the local farm shops for decent produce but I thought I'd give Graig Farm a try by buying a selection of chicken cuts. The deliveries come chilled, not frozen, with the portions marked with a frozen eat-by date. Everything came ready-packed for the freezer, so the only downside was having to rebag it into individual portions. The meat is succulent and very tasty with none of that "supermarket" cotton-wool texture. I shall certainly be shopping here again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arrived ahead of time; does what I wanted, 9 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was after a compact, comfortable chair for the kitchen so that, on cold winter nights, I can huddle up in front of the Aga. It arrived about three weeks before the anticipated delivery date -- from Germany. This is a standard Ikea product in terms of assembly; even though the bits follow no logic they should join together without too much trouble. As a result, I was able to build this chair on my own without any trouble, despite rather ambiguous instructions that were poorly illustrated. I could have ordered it from Ikea but, because I'm used to the idiosyncrasies of Amazon's service, I thought I'd go through this site to save fiddling about with having to enter my details all over again. At the end of the day, it's a nice looking, low cost chair that's good for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Yorkshire puddings and for general roasting ..., 2 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I can't make cakes but I fancied one of these for Yorkshire puddings and, also, for cooking potato latkes in the Aga. It does both jobs brilliantly, and also works well for my single-person roasts where I can chuck everything in and hope for the best. Washing up is easy, thanks to its non-stickiness, and because it's round there aren't any irritating corners to try and clean. I'm very fond of my Anolon cookware, and this has been a great addition to the collection. The handles haven't melted ... yet.
