Having not read a book for a while due to the temptations of digital media, i found this to be "unputdownable".
I read a review before buying which criticised Lomax's detailed descriptions of trains and railways, I found none of this, but this may be because i come from an engineering, automotive background.
I found the descriptions of his torture to be very restrained and his compassion to be remarkable.
Its also hard to realise that these lads were just that, young lads.
I would recommend this book to anyone, its a difficult subject covered with dignity and restraint.
