The Other Side of Nowhere
The Other Side of Nowhere
by Danniella Westbrook
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.99

5.0 out of 5 stars wow, 18 Oct. 2007
when they are teenagers I would like my kids to read this book - it has to do more than any thing else to warn them that not everyone gets away with taking drugs. The things danniella lost - family, friends, career, all the money, all the self respect - are told so unspairingly well. what an honest book.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best entertainer, 1 Oct. 2007
what a great book about a great man - Paul O Grady is a classic entertainer. His roots are in old fashonied variety shows and even vaudeville which is why his afternoon show is such a showcase for ordinary people with a bit of guts and talent. What this book does so well is to show why Paul supports ordinary people and underdogs. His history is amazing, you can almost sense him watching the women at market stalls and magistrates courts when he put Lily Savage together. But Lily was only a stepping stone - it is clear he always wanted to be himself and give other people a chance to shine. The emotional stuff in the book is heartbreaking without being intrusive. Paul has quietly got on with life when all has been falling down around him. Just like the survivors he has always admired. what a showman.

3.0 out of 5 stars confusing, 19 Sept. 2007
I really wanted to love this book but only ended up liking parts of it. That's not the fault of the author, there is a real pace to his words. But the structure is just too difficult, trying to look at too many huge stars and personalities one after the other. It means there are overlaps and repetitions and it is easy to get lost with where you are. I hope the author takes more closer looks at each individual in turn from now on. I would read all of those immediately.

4.0 out of 5 stars classy, 28 Jun. 2007
What a fun book - these guys are ultimate entertainers and when you read it you will see it really was a golden age of entertainment when they were working. Some of it might be a bit superficial and silly, but basically you get a real taste for that whole era - what great characters they all were.

3.0 out of 5 stars shortchanged ...., 2 Jan. 2007
It's a great album and Elena Rogers is raspingly fantastic and different in the lead role - but I did feel shortchanged as so little of the important linking passages and some of the important songs were not on the album - was this just to save money? Peron's Latest Flame and Eva's Final Broadcast are two of my favourites in the show - neither is on this CD. Really disappointing ......

3.0 out of 5 stars you are awful ..., 1 Nov. 2006
.... but we like you. What a great eye opener this book is. I've never, ever liked piers morgan when I see him on television, but you have to admit that no-one knows showbusiness quite like him so you have to read this book just to read about everyone he has met, all the things he has seen etc. How can he be so indiscrete? Don't know, but it is brilliant that he is!

4.0 out of 5 stars great mix ..., 26 Sept. 2006
I am a bit late to read this book but it was well worth it. You can race through it and and there is a really good mix between the personal life and the business life - and the business part is especially interesting. Simon explains how he really just went for things, often fearlessly. He comes over as a risk taker, which means that however much he might annoy you he has to be admired and probably deserves all his money. Another update after X factor and America has to come out soon I hope.

4.0 out of 5 stars strangely classy, 14 Sept. 2006
yes, bits of this book are a tacky and personal, but it all seems very real to me. I really felt I was in that rat pack world when I was reading it and the 'upstairs downstairs' aspect of it, written as it is by his valet, was very unusual and brought it alive. a great read.
