5.0 out of 5 stars Breaking through the silence, 1 April 2013

A friend of mine sent me an article from a paper about Mel's book and experience. It was spine chilling and made me feel physically sick. I felt compelled to read the whole book and downloaded it to my Kindle within hours. I was starting two weeks annual leave and spent the first two days in my pyjamas not able to put it down. I was completely captivated. The initial traumas that Mel has experienced, I haven't shared to the same extent (more recently the sudden death of my beloved father, but I was blessed with 39 years of being with him and learning from him), however reading her experiences with her sociopathic husband were a mirror image of my own 6 month marriage. She writes her thoughts about how things, his excuses, rationale for his behaviour just don't make sense. I could completely empathise. I had been there - the complete disorientation, knowing that it didn't make sense but justifying and becoming completely submissive. I couldn't understand the behaviour, no-one could. Through reading this book I have started to understand and appreciate that those characters that I believed only existed in magazines are sadly in fact a reality - it's been a very hard lesson to learn. Reading Mel's book has made me appreciate it's not just me, in fact compared to Mel, despite the fact it doesn't feel like it at the moment, I've had a lucky escape. I hope that one day, like Mel, I will thank my husband for making me feel a love like no other - I'm not there yet. I still miss my soulmate. I cannot wait for the book to come out in paperback - the Kindle version is great, but it's one of those books where you earmark certain chapters and pages and when you need some therapy you can just pick it up. I've messaged Mel to thank her because there have been times when I've almost lost my life and her story has given me life again. That is priceless. Mel's story, her book, has touched me in a way no other book has or ever will, (I appreciate at great personal cost) but also in a way I never wanted it to. Breaking her silence has given me life and for that I can never thank her enough. Good luck Mel - you so deserve it, you are a true inspiration xxx

5.0 out of 5 stars Educational, inspirational and impossible to put down!!, 11 Oct 2011

This review is from: Never Say Die (Paperback)
I bought this book having heard Melanie speak at an event that I was attending where she was accredited as the inspirational speaker for the day..and she was, so my expectations for the book were set at a high level and I was definitely not disappointed. The story....no, the reality...its no story.. of what Mel tells us about her life is nothing more than an education for the vast majority of us who can never imagine what life would be like had we had the experiences that life has thrown at her. The way in which the book is written I could just hear Mel speaking as I read the written word - I couldn't put it down. The way she uses her unique sense of humour lighten moments that for me I couldn't imagine possible; I just couldn't put it down. The way in which she, and Mike, the love of her life have turned so many of their life experiences into positives is nothing short of inspirational and leaves me feeling that there is definitely more that I can do. I will always do whatever I can to support TREAT Trust Wales in becoming the reality that they are both working so hard to achieve.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must!, 29 July 2003
This book is exactly what it says it is, a practical guide. It is an easy to read guide that deals with many issues from making the case for diversity, designing training and dealing with the challenges and issues in the area of diversity, and many more - an essential tool for a trainers kitbag. Every trainer should have one.
